Miss golfing here - nice course for beginner to semi-pro.

My 500th review?! How the time flies! Excited to be writing this one for Big Oak Driving Range,…read morewhere my partner and I stopped by yesterday evening for some swinging and MISSING. I love this place! The staff was so kind, and while it was BUSY yesterday, people move in and out at a steady clip so we had no problem finding a tee to get set up on. Everything is really well maintained and there's ZERO pretentious vibes, which I really appreciated as a beginner. You don't have to wear a fancy outfit, sneakers are perfectly fine, and there's golfers of all levels and abilities. Really nice! They also offer classes, and I think we're going to take one of their group offerings over the summer. We went with a large bucket to split for $16, and got in about 40 minutes of golf fun. I think the prices are pretty reasonable and I appreciate the large parking lot. A lot of sales inside if you're looking for any kind of gear! Wearables, carts, clubs, AND they do club fittings. The shop itself is a little old school and run down, but so is golf, so it is on brand. I never thought I would find myself interested in golf (my parents are both big golfers) but I actually find myself really enjoying it. I am looking forward to continuing my golf journey and many more trips to Big Oaks in the future!

The place was okay but play was WAY to slow. After waiting on every hole, the front nine took us 3…read morehours. When I then told the pro shop that I would rather take a rain check for the back nine since we didn't have 6 hours to play golf I was told there was nothing they could do because it wasn't raining. That is really a poor reaction to a golf course that was overbooked on a Saturday morning with people new to the game.

That doesn't mean it's the best around or that it's high end. It just means that I prefer it over a lot of other courses. My reasoning for this is based off of a few things. Please read on to understand why I live it but it's not five stars 1. The location from where I live is just wonderful. If I am on my way home from work and I have some free time it's only a mile away. 2. $10 to walk. Need I say more. 3. It's short. By that I mean I can get the front nine done in about an hour. 4. Confidence. Again it's short. If you want to feel good about your game early in the season then play here. The first three holes are par 4's that you can reach the green in one. 5. Practice. A lot of times it's not packed with people so if you want to play extra shots to get some practice in you can. 6. Hazards. There is not a lot to scare you. No water minimal tree obstacles and no sand.(also a negative) 7. Low scores. This goes right back to confidence. You can shoot low scores and it feels good. Now the negatives. If you have read this far you will already know the knocks on this place. I will list them quickly below. 1. Hazards. If you want a challenge find another course. 2. Club house. Nothing to brag about here. 3. Amenities. This is not a fancy place and it doesn't offer a lot. It has what you need to play golf and that to me is perfect. 4. Dry. When the weather gets dry this place gets brown. No pounds to draw from or rivers to pump out of makes it hard to water. 5. Getting to the back nine. To cross the road to the back nine can be a challenge and dangerous. Don't play at 5 pm. Again I love this course but I have to be honest about it. There is a lot to like but it lacks a lot that some might need. I for one am simple when it comes to golf. Give me a course, my clubs and someone to play with. Maybe a beer or two also. If you want a great place to play and you only have a little time stop in and play nine.

Nice and open , great confidence booster of a course , easily walkable, but the holes placements…read moregets a bit confusing to navigate from hole to hole. Weird layout . All in all a fun course for the amateur golfer who can let the driver fly and have a safe second shot really no matter what for the most part
