We had a gathering of coworkers for a summer get-together today at this park, and it was wonderful. The place is beautiful, with plenty of beach area to set up a tent, spread out lawn chairs, and they also have grills around for people to cook meals. The beach area is enclosed into a square, guarded by at least three lifeguards. There are plenty of parking spaces, a food concession and restrooms in the main building and plenty of restrooms and showers behind this front building. Lovely state park with clean facilities. Admission is currently 9 dollars (if you have a NY state empire pass, this covers the admission fee) There is a snack shack on site but it was closed when we visited. As we visited on a holiday it was very busy, but we arrived early and had no trouble finding parking. The park had staff on hand to direct traffic and assist in finding a spot. read more

Let me start off by saying that I've traveled to a lot of parks along Lake Ontario, especially this last year, and Fair Haven Beach has the clearest water along any of the beaches I've visited. When I've commented as much to others, there's always agreement... people who have been visiting for years and they all rave about how clear the water is. So honestly, if you're looking for a park or beach area along Lake Ontario, the water you can enjoy at this one is probably going to be hard to beat. My recent visit here, which also reminded me to write up a review, was only to spend some time along the lake and to let my pup swim around in the water. I went during the middle of the day on a Friday, and, especially since it's later in October, there were relatively few people around. I don't think dogs are really allowed on the main beach area, but my pup and I went closer to the end of the beach on one side (in the much more rocky area) and spent a bit of time in the water. Other than the beach and water, the park allows for RV camping, tent camping, kayaking in the pond, and various other options. Everything is clean and well maintained (locker rooms, showers, etc), and there's plenty of space if you just want to come here for a picnic or to grill by the beach. There are also cabins/cottages available to rent if you prefer a bit more luxury than camping generally allows (cabins are a 2-night minimum during non-peak season, and during peak season, cabins minimum stays run 7 or 14 days). All-in-all, Fair Haven Beach State Park offers plenty of amenities - along with a beautiful view along Lake Ontario. Highly recommended. read more

Nice beach. It wasn't rocky like the other beaches we visited, so that alone was a selling point. The water was COLD when we went in June, but you get used to it after swimming for a few. It feels nice on a hot day! It's $9 to get in because it's a state park, the gal working at the front was great and really friendly. Go on the right side of the beach where there are no lifeguards. The are with life guards is roped off and good for younger kids, but I prefer to not hear them whistling and yelling at people! That side didn't have the shells gathered at the shore as much as the side with the lifeguards. They have nice, well kept bathrooms. They have outside and inside showers which was great to clean off after a long day there. It's worth stopping by here! read more

We camped at Fair Haven Beach State Park over Memorial Day weekend this year. We're new to camping, and were lucky to snag a late cancellation. We were on the only electric camping loop, which is up the hill from the beach. We had electric site #76. The site was small, mostly a gravel/dirt pad with a little grass along the back, and had a few big trees to contend with when backing in. There was no privacy, sites on either side are right on top of each other. Beggars can't be choosers though, so we were happy to have any last-minute spot. Our site did have a nice cut-through trail direct to the bathroom though. I appreciated that convenience. It was a full-boat holiday weekend, but the bathrooms stayed pretty tidy. The showers were BIG, hot, and private. It wasn't an updated facility, but perfectly functional and nicely kept. Kudos to the cleaning crew here! The electric loop has a great playground area and sports fields right at the entrance to the loop. Our kids had a great time there. Our site wasn't far from some leisurely trails, too. The electric loop is a far enough walk to the beach though, where driving is probably best. Definitely drive down if you're lugging any chairs or coolers. It was a cool, rainy spring weekend when we were there, so we didn't make it to the beach this time around. There is bay and Lake Ontario shoreline fishing at Fair Haven. Due to the unusually high water levels, fishing wasn't great when we were there. There was an avid fisherman on the site next to us who said he's usually puling them out of the bay faster than he can unhook them, and they caught nothing that day. Any day fishing is still a good day fishing though, so the hubs and kids still had fun. Overall, we had a great long weekend here, and we'd return to Fair Haven for camping again. I'd love to give it a try during the summer when we can enjoy some sand and sun at the beach. Memorial Day is hit-or-miss, and we did deal with raindrops this time, but family time and camping time is always a good time. Even when soggy. :-) read more

Fair Haven is a great place to go camping, or just spend the day on Lake Ontario. I came here a few times as a kid, and trekked back recently. My findings were pleasant. Like all state parks, the entrance fee is $8, unless you are a holder of the mighty empire pass, or you have camping reservations. As you head up towards the lake, watch for deer even in the middle of the day, five or six ran across the street leading down to the beach. You can park close to the beach, and spots tend to fill up closer to noon. There is overflow parking farther down the beach, and near the bay part of the park. At the bay part, there are kayak and canoe rentals for an extremely reasonable rate. $8 an hour, or $32 an hour. You can go tandem (that does not inflate the pricing), or solo. The bay is pretty sea weedy, but it is nice to paddle around for a bit. The park has large bathroom and changing facilities that are relatively clean and new. In comparison to the restrooms near Charlotte Beach or other local parks, they were very nice. There was a food and ice cream shack near the beach as well, with burgers, hot dogs, fries, snacks, etc. Pricing is high, as expected for a beach area. The service of the snack shack is slow because there are never enough people working. If you want to grill up, there are multiple grills and picnic tables. Many families set up pop up pavilions and hold gatherings here. The actual beach itself is manmade, with soft sand. The water is decently clean, and you can typically see your feet when you look down. There are a lot of rocks, just like the chimney bluffs if you are trying to decide whether you should wear water shoes. Lifeguards are on duty until about 7 p.m. I am going to come back here again next summer. read more

This is a great family park. You can swim at Lake Ontario, chill on the sand facing the lake, eat at their cafe, have a picnic with your family, or rent a kayak to go in the pond. The entrance fee per car was $8 when I went in June this month. It's a really busy park but there is tons of parking. Swimming is limited to the area with the life guard. The sand area is big enough to fit the tons of families that come on a Saturday. And you get the beautiful view of the lake! read more

The park itself wasn't bad. The park police and the "rules" they have are absolutely ridiculous and have made mine and many others decision not to go here again. We had a large group bring our young teen boys here for a get together since they missed out on their school trip This year due to covid. Our first night at approx 10:15 we were approached by the park police and was told we had to be quiet because the quiet time was 10 pm. Even though we were far from being loud we said ok we will make sure to keep it down. Half an hour later he approached us again with an attitude and said it was our second warning and he is telling us we are to be quiet and adding in how we weren't suppose to be any another persons site after 10 and not to have any music going Either. We were forced to leave the site we were on and essentially put to bed like children. We had about 5-6 sites together for all of us to hang out. The next morning another police officer came and said he was trying to get to the bottom of the situation because we were apparently up until 3am and being drunk and disorderly! So far from the truth. We we're all in bed sleeping by 12-1 easily! All the boys had slept in the same tent so they could hang out. We were warned that wasn't allowed and we all had to be at our own sites and tents by 10 and he would make sure the next shift knew about it and threatened us with tickets. So our trip with our boys ended early the second night because we all had to be by ourselves at our site. Then again it's ok to be woken up at 5:30 both mornings by revving engines and loud banging and children running around yelling. Never again! read more

Rv camping here was quite lovely. My rv campsite was in the 50-90 campsite loop. It was a nice, big, and well maintained site. With just a short walk to showers and a playground, it made it quite family friendly. Nice tip if you are staying in the 200 or 50-90 loop, there is a slightly hidden path to the beach behind the playground. The beach is also quite nice as far as NYS beaches are concerned. There seem to be at least three beach areas you can sit at. There is a nice newly renovated bathroom and shower area right next to the beach which made life as a parent with sandy toddlers much better. read more

Awesome NY State Park. Love to camp here. I have do so as a child, and it never disappoints. I wish that they had more electric sites, or even some with full hook-ups, and the line at the dumping station is long at check-out time. Maybe another one of those. Still, an excellent State Park with a great beach and other recreation abundant. Would recommend for anyone that likes to camp. read more

Went there yesterday and it is very nice with a large beach. Much nicer than I expected and not to many people. Has spots you can fish, play volleyball, BBQ, picnic tables in the trees if it gets too sunny for you. I will be going back here. Worth the $8 for parking. read more

My favorite beach!!! I remember going here when I was little with my parents and sister. Now every year my friends and I drive up and camp there for a few days and I have brought my boyfriend as well. Always clean, busy but not crowded. The campsites are wonderful, we love canoeing and paddle boating there, and the beach is awesome! This is a great place for kids and adults. We also love going out on the pier and watching the sunset over the lake. HIGHLY recommend it here! read more
