On March 2 I purchased a prepared salmon bowl. That evening I tried a piece of salmon and noted it was not fresh with a concerning odor. Next morning I opened the package and found the fish totally spoiled and took it back, explained the spoilage and requested a refund. I was told because I had no receipt, they couldn't give me a refund only a store credit, and since I wasn't part of the rewards program, I would have to shop for something and the money would be applied. At no time was there an apology or concern, since this could have made me ill. I was accused by Angus of giving him a hard time, since I pointed out the food was clearly their product and given the fact that the food was spoiled, the right thing to do was to give me my cash refund. A prepared date of a fish dish on February 25 was on the shelf for 5 days which I find concerning. I'm also appalled at the poor customer service. read more

We have been a few times and everything we have ever gotten has been excellent. Wonderful selection of meats and vegetables as well as prepared meals. We haven't tried any of the prepared meals but will give them a try soon. We ordered a beef tenderloin roast for holidays and it was honestly the best we have ever had and the price was on par. read more

They are open and stocked!! We bought tomatoes that were absolutely delicious. Amazing sausage that we will be back for. Prices are a little more expensive for meats and fruits than some other farms, but delicious. The woman behind the counter was very nice and they have great hours. Closed Monday's. I've done the CSA program with Stone Gardens since the summer of 2012 (I think?), and this year, I'm trying their new CSF program (community supported farm stand). Their new stand is huge and generously stocked with all kinds of glorious local ingredients--meats, seasonal veggies, dairy, eggs, goat cheese, mushrooms and more. I was introduced to this farm by a co-worker who had enrolled in their Summer 2010 CSA program. She was very delighted with their vegetables and often brought in leftover produce since the crops were so plentiful. This summer I decided to join the program as well and registered for a half-share. It was a great decision that I plan to continue next year. Their website has all the details for those of you like me who hadn't ever heard of a CSA before. I would recommend checking them out. They run a farm stand that you can visit to purchase veggies/herbs and even beef/poultry (must place order before pick-up). I've purchased both a pckg of ground beef and a whole chicken earlier in the summer. Both were amazingly fresh and nothing like what I was used to eating. Everything I've received from them over the last three months was freshly picked and delicious. A huge difference from the stuff you find at Stop & Shop. I like vegetables and thought I was pretty exposed to them but joining this program opened up a whole new world for me. Not only did I try things I'd never heard/seen before like kohlrabi; I also learned ways to prepare them. Stacia (wife/owner) sends out weekly newsletters (something I don't hear other farms doing) about what's going on the farm and exactly what you can expect in your share that week. Their newsletter also gives you nutritional information; advice on cleaning/storing items; tons of recipes; and even information on a vegetable's history/origin. I think for a first timer like me this was a huge help. If you're someone who enjoys vegetables and trying new things I would highly recommend this farm's CSA program to you. Or at least stopping by to check out the farm stand. Like anything else the program does require a lil time and commitment on your end. But you truly reap the rewards bringing home fresh/local/healthy food. I can't say enough good things about this family farm and all that they offer. read more

I've only been here to pick up a Thanksgiving Day turkey. Wait, no, that's not quite accurate - when we arrived for the bird, they also had some green vegetables we wanted, some Delicata squash and some other item (I forget what) that was on our shopping list. That's pretty impressive for late fall pickins' in New England. And there was a woman working who could actually confirm which of the squashes was Delicata - a necessary service that had not been available in the Milford Whole Foods. And then they had been so accommodating about the turkey to begin with. I had contacted them, by email, just prior to Thanksgiving, and they got back to me right away, and had enough turkeys to reserve one for me, and were all-in-all very pleasant and professional. There were a lot of people there on the Wednesday before the holiday, but they managed to get all of us, and our turkeys, in and out rather efficiently, but in a friendly, farm-y way. read more

I've been coming to stone gardens for years, mostly for vegetables in the summer, especially the corn on the cob as it's some of the best I've ever had. They recently expanded and built this large "store" on the farm. They not only have fresh vegetables for whatever is in season but they now carry meats, soups, prepared meals to go and the best tasting Bloody Mary mix you will ever have. You can also order fresh meats, see pic I posted. I ordered a fresh grass fed prime rib for Christmas and it was absolutely delicious. The price was $13.99 a pound compared to stop and shop $4.99 a pound but you can't even compare the two. It was worth the price for sure and I would order again. The staff (all family) are always friendly and helpful. I love supporting local and I'm lucky to live in the same town so it's not too far to drive on any day. I have yet to try any of the prepared meals but I will soon and update my review. I highly recommend stone gardens for meats, veggies and the awesome Bloody Mary mix. Found this amazing gem of a farm store while picking apples at Beardsley Orchards. They grow their own vegetables and raise their our cows, chickens and pigs and sell vacuum sealed in the family store. The Ribeye steaks were the best, most tender I've EVER had. The silver sweet corn was also the best I've had this season. Tomatoes and arugula great. Everyone was friendly, welcoming and they even had a live musician playing outside. Prices are good and well worth the bit of a hike getting there. read more

So I was very disheartened by my trip to Stonegarden Farm this morning. You want to support local businesses particularly during this time BUT local businesses need to follow social distancing requirements. Sadly, Stonegarden's staff is not wearing face coverings, "sanitizing" hands between customers with a previously used wipe and not following the 6ft distancing recommendations. Ed's description of the farm is spot on. I live about 10-15 minutes from and I also purchased a CSA (half share) this year. Fred and Stacia are great. They even put up with my ridiculous schedule and fear or driving on some of the one lane roads that lead up to their farm. This year I've eaten numerous vegetables I've not tried before (i.e. kale, about 5-6 new varieties of lettuce i didn't know existed, wax beans etc) and filled my freezer with my all time favorites (collards, cabbage, corn). The sweet corn is the best I've ever had. I eat at least 7-8 ears of corn a week and on weekends I buy extra corn to give to co-workers or make my grandmother's fried corn with. Their selection is good; from peppers and onions to eggs and apples. They sell fresh whole chickens which are a great size and perfect to two. I've gone on several different days and although I don't always pay attention to everyone that's at the farm I don't know that I've noticed the same "fairfield housewives" that ed wants to avoid. The wonderful people that work there are always helpful and smiling. And the two girls he mentioned are just as he said. I have run in to the occasional customer who isn't happy with the selection and seem annoyed that what they want isn't available but I chalk that up to them being difficult people in general and nothing was really going to make them happy. If you get a chance to go by then I strongly suggest you do. I've talked about the farm and vegetables I get regularly to co-workers so much so that several of them have gone and gotten their own vegetables or are planning on joining the CSA next year. Unfortunately, I won't be living in CT this time next year but having lived with a farm close by and being a part of a CSA is now a requirement for where I move to next. read more

I have been doing the CSA on and off for 5 years. It began as an amazing experience. The half shares were huge, the people were friendly and the price was right. This year turned terribly nasty and I'm still in shock. I overlooked the fact that the price went up and the half share was barely anything at all. However, when the owner, Stacia, accused me of ignoring her emails and being rude, I was completely in shock! I will spare you the details of her nastiness but I will say that I gladly will never go back there. Their CSA portions have gone down hill, their staff is nasty and their prices are outrageous! read more

We found this farm by chance, and I am so happy we did. The farm store/stand was fully and beautifully stocked. The girl working was amazing and took the time to show me around and point out to me all the products they made on site. I bought my husband a beef jerky they made, he opened it while we were in the car, and before he even got a chance to fully chew it he said "omg this is amazing". My family and I moved to Connecticut from Brooklyn, NY a year and a half ago and Stone Gardens Farm has been one of the best things about living in the suburbs for me. We joined their CSA this past spring and I have been delighted with the wide variety and incredible freshness of their vegetables. Tomatoes and cucumbers taste like the tomatoes and cucumbers of my childhood -- fresh and rich in flavor, vibrant in color and free of pesticides and herbicides. I think we received and savored five different varieties of delicious corn -- perhaps the freshest and sweetest I've eaten. Beets, kohlrabi, greens of various types, beans and fresh herb plants rounded out the shares for a flavorful and healthful selection of fresh veggies all summer long.
