Located in the Stone Oak neighborhood, this park contains a 1.8 mile trail that connects with the Elementary school. There's a few benches to stop and rest and the trail has loops that lead you to other neighborhoods or back to where you started. The trails are quite pretty and well-paved. Not to mention it's clean for the most part and you will see people power walking or taking their pets/kids out. San Antonio is lucky to have this, that's for sure! read more

The main parking lot is small, but there are two other lots you can park in. Bring up Google Maps Satellite view to find them if the main lot is full. We did the north trail and south trail and got 4.2 miles out of it. 98.6% of these trails are in the sun. I found one or two natural trails, but they didn't go far, so most of our time was spent on the paved trails. We got to see a couple of cool looking karst caves, but they were blocked off so you couldn't go into them. They still looked cool though. If you continue from the north trail to the south trail, there is a cool drainage culvert that you get to walk through and make all kinds of noise for echoes and fun stuff like that. Porta potties at the second trail head but nowhere else. No water either. Have fun out there folks! read more

This was the first park closest to us that we visited when we moved to the Stone Oak area years ago. It's been quite some time since we've been here. In driving by one day, I noticed bluebonnets near the entrance and wanted to see if I could get some photos and also go for a walk. We visited yesterday after work and there were quite a few people on the trail. There is so much greenery around the trail and I was initially missing seeing more flowers. Then there was a whole patch of beautiful yellow wildflowers. As we walked further, then there were white and yellow wildflowers. We'll definitely be back to explore more parts of the different trails. read more

PROS: + It's somewhat secluded despite being in the busy Stone Oak area, only saw a few other dog walkers and runners on an early afternoon visit on a nice weather day. + Informative plaques about local wildlife as well as workout stations along the route, with artistic distance markers. + Dog bags, trash, and recycling cans available at the trailhead. CONS: - As other reviews mention, there is dog poop everywhere. At multiple points, it is in the very middle of the pathway. This is absolutely ridiculous when bags are provided at the parking lot. - No bathrooms so come prepared, plan ahead, etc. read more

This park offers lovely views of the hill country along with views of homes located in the hill country. With that being said, do NOT expect this to be a place of complete nature seclusion. There's quite a few people walking and running so I'm sure it's fairly safe during the weekends. There's also two areas with the Edwards Aquifer recharging (one is a metal cage covering a hole in the rocks) and another is a cave located behind a DO NOT enter sign. You'll only be able to access these locations with the SAWs Waterful Tour. I liked how you can see grand views of the hill country from the trailways, but at the same time you can hear some traffic on different paths. I'm sure once you go further in it's quieter, but I did not have a chance to explore it thoroughly. I definitely recommend this place as a local park with trails as it seems well maintained, yet still kept 'wild' for a natural feel. Not a lot of tree coverage so keep hydrated! read more

It's been a while since I've found a running trail I really REALLY like. While this isn't the longest trail you'll run it's definitely one of the prettiest & interesting trails. Stone Oak Park is split into two different trails with different things to observe & check out. There are also different parking areas along the trail if you want to access a certain section. Both trails can be accessed easily & are connected with a crosswalk. I like to start at spider trail, run over to snake trail, & run back through snake chase trail to my car at spider trail. It's about a good 3 miles, but the miles can easily stack up if you repeat the trails. Spider trail is a mixture of loose gravel with a paved tail to the trail depending on how you start it while snake chase trail is mainly paved. Both trails are unique & have lots to look at. As others have stated there is a lot of poop, but I'd argue it's not just dog poop. There are wild animals that like to roam these trails as well. Along with speaking about wild animals rattlesnakes are alive & well at this park. On two different occasions I have seen & heard them. This is one of the reasons I do not like running with headphones. For those that like to run with headphones I'd highly suggest leaving an earbud out to keep an ear out for the rattlesnakes tail. One of the coolest things I like about these trails at stone oak park is that about .5 into your run/walk/bike on snake chase trail you'll see some huge tunnels. The tunnels act as a great escape from the sun on a hot summer day! Plus, they're a good place for a unique photo op haha! ;) As far as the sketchy aspect of this trail I haven't had any issues thus far nor have I felt uneasy during my runs. While you will have patches of alone time on the trail there are many other runners, walkers, & bikers that you'll pass or come into contact with. I also saw a park ranger walking the trail the other day right as it was opening. This is one of the reasons I like running on this trail. There are way too many parks in SA that I don't feel comfortable running at especially if I'm alone. Some additional things about stone oak park is that there is a playground at the beginning of snake chase trail. Workout stations are scattered out along the trails. I did see some trash cans throughout the trails as well. read more

Nice place to go on a walk or run. We came to relieve some stress after being inside all day and what better way to then to bring 2 rambunctious kids for a long walk. Wasn't very busy, thankfully. We walked about a mile and a half and the kids really enjoyed it and were exhausted by the end of it. We went to the right side and parked in front of the path but when we left I did see another side which I'll have to check out next time. read more

This is a great accessible park, that includes everyone. You have a kids playground on one side of the park, at the entrance. You have exercise stations throughout! They have recently add a bunch more. Plenty of benches for those who need a breather or old. You can bring your dog and they provide doggy bags. On only one side, if I am correct, do they have a fountain for dogs. There are lots of runners and bikers. And a couple of information tablets throughout to keep it interesting/educational. The reason I did not give it a 5 star is that the park is much bigger than the trail. I do not know why they made the trail so small and it is a shame as I would like to spend more time walking around that park. read more

Beautiful and extremely convenient outdoor walk in a city area. Many yelpers have noted dog poop on the trail, but this happens very infrequently. Mostly what they see is COYOTE poop, and, strangely, the coyotes don't usually clean up after themselves. Coyote scat is full of hair from what they eat. I live on the greenbelt that connects to the park about one mile away, and the coyotes are around all the time, sometimes calling very loudly at night. Over the last two weeks walking in my neighborhood at 5 in the morning I saw on one occasion a coyote and on two occasions a fox. These animals are absolutely no threat to us, although they'll be happy to relieve us of an unwary cat or small dog, and their presence just underscores this wonderful mix of residential living mixed with nature's world in the hills. The three parks connect through the road and the tunnel under Evans and create quite a long path. All three areas are very pretty and walking the whole path is worth while. The only concern is that occasionally bike riders go too fast on the trail to safely avoid walkers and runners, yet this is still very infrequent. read more

What a gem of a park. With development going on everywhere it's great to see they set aside some green space then thoughtfully developed some trails. The side of the road toward the Elementary school on my second day of running though was flooded. I wasn't inclined to run through a foot deep of cold water... It's also great to see they have a 'parcourse' which basically is workout stations mixed into the running trail. And there are other trails on the property with are more strenuous and less developed for a more trail run kind of feel. read more

A nice linear park that takes you through the start of the Hill Country on the north side of San Antonio. This park has ample parking right by the Middle School, and takes you along rocky mounds, cacti, and mesquite trees. There's some caves along the trail, but you're not supposed to go climbing into them. Don't disturb the bats! Along the way, I found a work out station- where there's a gym for people that don't like drinking fountains or air conditioning. The gym area is in the sun, so it's hot. There's also an auditorium, with power plugs and shade, with lots of seats made of stone to sit on. The auditorium could probably seat over one hundred people. It's a quiet park, good for a run or a bike ride. There are no wide open grassy fields, more of a long path that winds past small limestone hills and cactus. If you look out, you might see some deer around here. I was disappointed in the park's lack of drinking fountains. There is a porta-potty in the parking lot though. read more

Went today, truly disgusting. This park must be a favorite of lazy dog owners because there were so many dog bombs on the trails. Come to think of it, I didn't notice any trash cans or stands with baggies for picking up poop. These dog owners don't even have the decency to have their dogs go off the trail since most bombs were in the center of the paths. read more

Love Love this park! Great paved trails that go on for a few miles on both sides of Stone Oak Parkway. Mostly in the shade too. They also have a nice, cute playground for the kids with recycled rubber tires (instead of mulch). There are some cool metal tunnels that go under the road - the kids love walking through this part of the trail and making echoes, taking photos, etc. it's unique. There is also a great outdoor workout area with various exercise equipment and a small amphitheater (not sure if they have small community events there but it is cute nonetheless). It's a great family- friendly trail with lots of people either walking their dogs, riding their bikes, etc. They actually just added and extension that goes all the way behind Bush middle school. Just a tip, bring bug repellent- they are very aggressive. read more

They have updated the benches and some of the nature signage along the trails... keep up the great work! Wanted to note that the city has added a great workout station in the park just past the playground on the south side of Stone Oak Pkwy. There is a photo that shows the outdoor machines - they have adjustable tension so you can customize your workout a bit. Also know there is a permanent porta-potty for your use ;) read more

This park is pretty Cool! It has a few trails you can either run, walk, or bike. There is even a bear cave, but you cannot go inside it. There's a playground for the kiddos and stationary exercise area for your enjoyment. =) Nice scenery too. read more

Really nice park- I like that there is a bathroom, playground, signs describing the plants and animals, and fitness equipment available. There is also a little amphitheater setup, but I'm not sure what it's for- I never see it being used- it would be awesome if it was utilized for something. The trail changes at different points, sometimes it's smoothly paved and sometimes it's a little rough, it's easy to push a stroller over all parts of the trail though. There is ample parking available on both sides of the park. read more

Great park but park users use it as a dog bathroom and don't pick up after their dogs. It's rediculous and an embarrassment to the neighborhood and city. If you don't mind the sight and smell of dog feces in various states of decay, this is a wonderful park. read more

Love this park. The wildlife is great saw a deer twice and it's fawns together . Love the info in the park especially the bear bones at the beginning of the north loop and the cub caves were pretty cool. But I wish the people would clean up the park after the fire a couple years ago. And love the tunnel underneath Evans by the middle school. read more

Great Place to go ABout 3 miles long. Very nice walk. I wish that the parks department would do a better job of maintaining the park - they have done nothing since the fire burned a large part of it and there doesn't seem to be any adjustment/accomodation when they take down large trees (for pruning or because they have died). PLEASE DO PICK UP AFTER YOUR DOGS. There is nothing worse than enjoying a beautiful run in the cool crisp morning air and then sliding on a pile. Know what I mean? read more

Came here with my dog for a walk/run, after about 1/2 a mile I came across a construction worker laying on the side of the trail.. Didn't think too much of it but further down there was another one sleeping against a tree. Decided to turn around as this was not very comfortable. Turns out their truck was parking in the parking lot. I guess this is their spot to come and sleep on the job??.. Not good. Beautiful place but won't be coming back. read more

I love this park with two sides. You can through the hill country on one side of the street or visit the other side with a playground, paved walk way and workout stations. It is always clean! The park also has several trail heads. It does not have any high elevations, so it is more for a stroll. But if you want elevation, all you have to do is walk out on Stone Oak Parkway! read more

san antonio parks and rec have done well at keeping parks well maintained. we enjoyed the stone oak northern loop on saturday in the mid-morning. along this trail their are various work out bars ( pushups, pullups, situps) to encourage a full body work out while enroute. i did not note any water fountains on the path, so make sure to have plenty of water if you plan to be out there during heat of the day. the path is easy for various walking abilities, with little incline and smooth walkways. read more

i was looking for a walking path close to home so i can take my dog and i found it. there's parking at barbara bush school and also off stone oak parkway. i've parked at both locations and either is good. there's plenty of other walkers and some with dogs so you don't feel isolated. the paths are mostly concrete. there are work out stations and kids playgrounds too. will be back. read more
