I have shopped here and it's fine. However, I took in some items for resale. Not worth the time. First I needed an appointment, no problem, but then I'm told to leave the items and come back another day for my money. Again, no problem. I was paid about 10% of retail value, and was told if I didn't come back the very next day for the cash I would only get store credit. The two trips weren't worth the amount I was given. I've been in maybe 7 times, and I always want to like it more. As a shopper, I find the prices to be a little on the high side, which is fine, but pay attention to the sticker prices. As a seller, I find her pennies-on-the-dollar offers to be not worth the effort of making an appointment. I'll be doing hand-me-downs and donating from now on. read more

It is helpful to know what this store is and is not so as not to be disappointed like some previous reviewers. This is not a thrift store and their clothes are not cheap. They only accept brand name, high quality items that are either very gently used with no visible signs of wear and tear or new items that simply didn't work for someone else. The store is clean, well organized, offers a wide variety and does not have that funky second hand store smell that you'll find elsewhere. The owner has a solid business model in place and she knows how to price things so that the consumer is saving money and the employees can make a living and keep running a nice shop. Recently, I bought a brand new Halloween costume with $32 tags on it for $12, a pair of girls boots that looked almost new (totally clean soles) that Nordstrom sells for $40 for $16 and a pair of Women's Ugg's still in the box with brand new looking soles (I don't believe these were ever worn for $86. $86 seems like a lot until you look online and see that they retail new for $220. Again, I would be surprise if these had ever been worn. Nothing I got was "cheap", but, it was a fantastic value for what it was - new or like new brand name items. I actually was able to use store credit from items I had brought in for all of this too! You may not always get the price you want for items you bring in but they have a business model that works and it is a great way to re-home things you don't need and practice sustainability. You can get your kiddos in on it too so that they can learn a bit about buying and selling their things. If your looking for $1 shirts, this won't be your place. But if you want a pleasant shopping experience and like to support local businesses, this is a wonderful store! read more

I like the store as a buyer since it's clean, and well organized. As a seller I unfortunately agree with prior reviewers that it's a waste of time to drop things off. I don't bring used items there to make money, but if I consider the time it takes to make the appointment, get the items ready, drop off, pick up and then only get a few dollars and bring 90% of the items back home, I rather use the local Facebook groups to gift them or drop them off at a charity thrift store. Since moving to Bend, we have absolutely LOVED frequenting this store. The clothes are really nice brands and in great, like new, condition. The owner has thoughtfully set up a kitchen play area for the kids to play while you shop. Several times I've found some great brand items for myself. When our children outgrow the items, we bring them back and get impressive store credits for them. The owner takes time to get to know families by name and always makes us feel welcome and at home. We are so lucky to have this store in Bend. Many times when shopping, I overhear customers from out of town sharing that when they come into Bend, they always include Stone Soup. Firstly the owner is absolutely fabulous. Incredibly friendly and helpful. There is a good range of clothing and snow gear. From cheap Carter's to Halley Hansen. I wish there was a bit more inventory. Although, that's likely an unfair statement, due to consignment shops only being able to sell what people bring in. I'd would like to see more toys. There were not many to choose from. The owner obviously knows her stuff, and has a good eye. I want to see more, and I will be back. read more

Where to start. Stone Soup Kids is basically one person's way of stealing from another person and calling it a business. Good luck getting your money from the owner after she tells you it's ready for pickup. What a sham, according to the owner Julie "I'm running a business I can't keep track of everyone's money." Stone Soup has become my favorite little second-hand store to shop for my kids! They aren't huge, but what they do have is quality with good brands. Their shoe selection is pretty varied. I find it a great place to buy cheap socks as it seems no matter how many socks I buy I only ever seem to buy one and not a pair! There isn't a large selection of toys to buy, but you can find some cute/interesting locally made items. They even have a selection of maternity clothes. Stone Soup has a great emailing list. They're always keeping you up to date with upcoming sales. The clothes they accept are mostly seasonal so you can go there and often find the kids boots you needed, a Christmas dress or Halloween costumes, etc. If you end up selling to them, they are pretty picky. While this might bother some, I'd say it really turns out for the best as you know they have good quality clothes to buy off their racks. Also, they have a great system where you can walk out with cash straight away or choose a higher value store credit. All in all, this is a good, reliable store to go to. It's clean and even has a small play area to keep your young ones busy while you shop. read more

Some higher-end brand name items are here that I wouldn't/couldn't normally purchase, so it's a treat to find clothes for my daughter here that are less expensive than buying them brand new. I schedule appointments to bring in seasonally appropriate items for trade every three months, and I look forward to replacing some of my daughter's outgrown clothes with new-to-her ones. I was immediately impressed with Stone Soup and that great first impression has only actually gotten better, if that could be possible, and that's because of the owner! The owner Julie is kind, efficient, personable, and super organized! I'm impressed by her memory, keen business methods, and kind spirit. She cares about her customers, which include those who offer children's items for possible inclusion in the store's inventory and also those who purchase from her inventory. Things come in clean and organized as a rule, and I see the value of this rule: if the community helps by bringing clean clothes for the "soup," it makes partaking of the feast that Julie selects for resale much more appetizing! Her markup is pretty high considering what she marks prices at. There are other shops in town that offer prices that are a bit more reasonable. Not the place to sell, in my opinion. read more

This is the best Kids Consignment store that I've been to. We stop here every time we visit Bend and I am always impressed with how clean, organized, and reasonable the merchandise is. I am a firm believer in handmedowns, but when there's a gap to fill, my first pick is to buy something second hand. I've visited consignment shops in Portland, Seattle, Bellingham, and my hometown of Hood River, and Stone Soup is my favorite. I rely heavily on personal reviews from folks, so hopefully this helps someone else discover another great gem in all that Bend offers. read more

I was happy to find a place where I could buy some gently used clothes for my kiddo. The quality and brand names in the store are great. What I found to be incredibly problematic was the "Indian Princess" costume hanging amongst the Halloween costumes for sale. I'm not sure why the buyer would purchase this to offer it in the store but it left a bad taste in my mouth and I'm still questioning whether I'll return. read more

I have heard from mom friends that this was the place to go for good deals. So I was excited to check it out. I used to work in kids clothing so I have a pretty good understanding on what's 'over' and 'reasonable'. I walked in and went to the boys section. Wow. The first thing I picked up was an osh kosh t shirt for $7. And the quality was a 2/10. moved on to shoes. $12 for a pair of broken rain boots. I don't know how people consider this a bargain. Way to expensive for USED clothes. Those of you who consider this a good deal, maybe check out gull price at like carters or gymboree. It's probably cheaper then what this store charges. read more

I've picked up gifts for friends kids - bought a adorable dress for a little girl for $15, tho a second hand store the item was never worn with price tag still on it from Neiman Marcus with original price of $75! When someone walks into your store and asks questions about consignment - first welcome them don't act like they are an inconvinience to your time and tell them they Must schedule a time to discuss consignment... The quality of items is very disappointing and not at all what I was expecting based on their website and other reviews. Prices are very high for used merchandise. I made an appointment to consign items, and was told the first available time was over a month away. And the biggest, most concerning thing to me is that they took all of my store credit and gave it to someone else who had the same name. They did not verify middle initial, phone number, physical address, or email address. I will no longer do business with an establishment that took all of my personal information, made me sign a contract, gave me store credit for items I brought in, and then couldn't keep track of any of it. This place used to feel warm and friendly, now it just feels like a very under-cutting non-customer service oriented business. I feel completely robbed after she took a few items and gave me next to nothing and marked all of it up 75%--quite a profit margin. You also have to endure her snobby attitude toward you as she picks through your things and gives you pennies to the dollar basically. It's not a fun process. Then, make sure you read all the fine print! With a limited selection, you are mostly forced to use store credit Or receive even less as a cash value for your items. I chose to use store credit, and then found some items that were nice, but wasn't sure if they fit. If it doesn't fit your kids be prepared because their three day return policy means you lose the cash value money and are forced to keep spending there as store credit. I have been shopping at children's resale shops for years and I'm not one of those nickel and dime type suspenders this is after feeling really frustrated, taken advantage of and degraded by the entire process. read more
