Very racist uncomfortable shopping experience, yes I am Latino and felt very profiled don't recommend.

During my trip to Bend, Oregon my darling Husband decided to take me shopping for sandals. It was in the Spring and pre-Pandemic. There was an open front door to Desperado Boutique. I walked in. Before I had a chance to ask about the sandals that were on display in the shoe area (there is a small bench) I told the clerk that I was looking for clearance items... and some blouses and dresses. Although, there were plenty of dresses at Desperado Boutique... there weren't that many areas to try on clothes. I did try on one dress.... but, it didn't have any pockets. That dress wasn't in my darling Husband's favorite hue either... so I left it on the rack when the clerk was ringing up my clearance sandals. I recommend bringing your credit card or a traveler's check with you... there's lot of smaller sized shoes, blouses and dresses. I didn't find a blouse that fit me that was in a hue that I didn't already own. The blouses are similar to the blouses on sale in boutiques that are out of state.... but in different hues. There was a problem with the other customers... two or three of the other customers tried to open the curtain to the changing area when I was dressed. Sometimes, older women are so pushy that they are rude. One of the older women who peeked into the changing room squealed when she saw there was a Black woman inside... or maybe... she squealed because she didn't expect anyone to be inside. You can't miss the seriously beautiful and unique selection of high end cow(girl) boots. Amazing leather, textures, and colors... Impossible to pick a favorite pair! Don't pass this place by if you think the style isn't your thing... They have a lot of more subtle items (cute tops, dressess, jewelery) that are still top notch in terms of quality but don't scream "I'm trying to look like a cowgirl!". Went in today because I heard they carried Miss Me Jeans. Not one person greeted me despite having at least two people on staff and no one else in the store. No one offered to help me despite obviously seeing me looking at clothes. When I asked about their jewelry the woman working there reacted as if I asked her for a kidney. Cute stuff. Where to start... I met the most amazing woman, fell in love with her and married her. She got my wedding ring at Desperado and while I am not much of a ring guy, she picked out the best ring I have ever had. Eight years later she is still WAY out of my league and I am a very fortunate man. Joanne, Haleigh, Nicole and the rest of the lovely ladies at Desperado have the best little boutique in the Mill. They offer mainly women's clothing but I like to tag along with the wife and browse the men's section. Quality Western wear that lasts and Timberland boots!!! I really like this shop and have been many times in fact last time I found my new fav pants.....BUT, yesterday I went in and was excited to try on a few things. They were helpful throughout as I looked around but when I was in the dressing room the woman, who was nice enough, kept opening my dressing area without any notice (you cannot lock them as it's just a curtain). The first time she did it I was shocked and just thought ok we are all women I guess I don't really care but I did....but after several more times and my wondering if I should say something, and I should have of course but I was just so taken aback, I couldn't focus on the clothes anymore because I was so nervous she was about to swing the curtain open. I'm not comfortable with my body with just me there let alone a stranger. I carry a backpack as a purse and wondered later if she thought I was going to steal something which is pretty offensive. If the backpack was the issue I wish they'd asked me to leave it at the counter or something and if not, I leave this review so they can perhaps rethink that method of "helping" or to warn people it may happen to them. It's a cute store with lots of high end nice stuff, I always visit and love when I find something great. My bad as I should've said something the first time and no disrespect but I also shouldn't have to ask to have my privacy respected. I do appreciate the thought behind helpfulness if that was the only intention but I do believe most would be extremely uncomfortable. Visited July 26, 2013. I go to this store every time I visit Bend! It is on my "must do" shopping list. While my style is not "western", I find this store has something for everyone! My work attire is on the tailored, conservative side, so I work in items that are unique so I do not get bored or look like everyone else! I ALWAYS find way too many things here for both work and leisure attire. Believe me there is something for everyone! Men, women, kids, gifts and home. I LOVE to support a small business. I find these small boutiques have unique items that the "big" stores don't. Very affordable items to custom boots and everything in between. We heard about Desperado from Sally in Tumalo she showed us these darling shoes Y Knot Branded that friends of hers started a year ago. The shoes are Western and way Cute, and they sell them at Desperado...so that is why we dropped in on our way to dinner. Absolutely loved this store, full of wonderful thing...it will be a must every time I'm in Bend visiting, full of wonderful things clothes and boots/shoes being a real must see. I love Desperado!! I am not a huge fan of shopping, and they make it fun. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. They have taken the time to get to know me and what I like and help style my wardrobe to match that. Needless to say most of my closet is filled with clothes from Desperado, and I have started a pretty decent shoe collection from the shoe side. They also carry men's clothes, a smallish section, but most of my husbands shirts come from here. They even took the time to find polo shirts in True Grit for him. read more
