Wow, total ripoff. The food was horrible, the prices were ridiculous - $14 for a salad, $3.00 for a cup of coffee? Seriously? The staff was rude. The only reason I stayed here was for a conference. This place is a total scam. Its 12 miles to anywhere else, so they figure they can treat you badly and rip you off on anything. A daily $14 resort free and they dont even put out coffee in the morning. DO NOT STAY HERE!!!!! GO STAY IN NEARBY WESTON, ITS WORTH THE MONEY IN GAS TO DRIVE. This place opened 10 years ago this month, but the lodge's guest rooms are already showing signs of aging. Our King lake view room, while spacious, had multiple stains on the carpeting (not sure why they picked a lighter green color for the carpeting) and a SERIOUS fly problem. So much so that after killing more than a dozen flies buzzing around the window, I called the front desk. They sent an "engineer" up to the room while we were out. I'm not sure what he/she did, but it didn't solve anything. I'm not sure how these flies are getting in, but suspect it's due to cheaply built windows with gaps, holes in the ventilation, or both. Just because a resort is surrounded by wilderness, it doesn't mean that somehow having flies in the room is OK. Flies notwithstanding, the view was beautiful, although it's a shame that none of the rooms have an outdoor balcony. The grounds are beautiful and the wow factor of the surrounding nature is undeniable. The bed was comfortable and the presence of a mini-fridge in the room was a welcome surprise. Bathroom was adequate, though the tile grout and bathtub were dirtier than would be expected for a 10-year old resort. It seems there is ongoing construction on the grounds, but it would be wise to update the lodge first (fix the windows, steam clean the carpet) before putting more money into construction. Food was good. We had the Sunday brunch buffet at Stillwaters, and the selection was good for $19.95 per person. Beware that beverages are extra. Dinner at TJ muskie's was also solid (burgers seem to be the best bet here) but as others have mentioned, service was quite slow due to understaffing issues. We got the s'mores pack ($9.95 gets you about 10 graham crackers, 2 bars of Hershey chocolate, 10 or so marshmallows, and a wooden stick for the roasting) to prepare outside by the nightly fire pit, and that was fun. Didn't get a chance to try Lightburn's because it was closed during the days of our stay. This is a resort in the wilderness, so outdoor activities abound. For a mandatory daily $15 resort fee, you can rent bikes, canoes, paddle oats, and kayaks to explore the grounds and lake. A daily hourlong cruise of the grounds is also included. BEWARE, however, that Segway tours are charged separately, and the hotel goes out of its way to not inform patrons upfront of the steep $40 per person fee for the tour. The website doesn't say anything about a separate charge and neither did the 2 people we spoke to about booking a tour. After a 1-hour session that included 2 petulant teenagers who did everything dangerous with a Segway that you're supposed to NOT do, we were informed we owed $40 each. The tour was not an actual tour of the grounds as we had hoped, but rather time wasted in an "obstacle" course in a parking lot and how to go up and down terrain changes. Segway tour was a real disappointment. Finally, there was the service. No one was flat out rude, but the place seems to be run mostly by teenage newbies who don't know much about resort hospitality. The only reason this isn't a 1-star rating is because the staff did do an excellent job in TRYING to rectify several issues. I was leaning toward a 3, but just couldn't rank it there. The staff was great (kudos to the manager Bill) and the atmosphere (the lodge and grounds) was spectacular. The food at the restaurants was also above average. With that said, all of it couldn't make up for many issues throughout the weekend. A small group of us (married couples) thought this might be a nice late-fall getaway... With it being somewhat "off-season", we figured peaceful tranquility. We booked about 6 weeks in advance, with the request of keeping our rooms close... We were told that wouldn't be a problem. When we checked in, we found that one couple was on the opposite side of the lodge... Requiring a long walk to elevators, to the lobby, to the other set of elevators, then back up to the same floor, so they could access the opposite wing. That wasn't really a big issue. However, also upon our arrival, we found many pre-teens and teens running through the lobby. When we inquired as to the event, we were told that approx. 400 kids were staying there, throughout the weekend, for a teen-related conference... We've stayed at hotels before where school bands or cheer/dance teams have been booked and have had no issues, so we figured it would be well chaperoned. At 11pm, when the doors were still slamming and kids were yelling, we realized that wasn't the case. We were mainly upset because no staff had called prior to our arrival, informing us of the event... Even staff agreed with us that we should have been notified. The pool and hot tub were unusable... At least for normal use, as it was more like a public pool in the middle of the summer. Regardless, we were still determined to have a good time. The next day, staff was able to move the "secluded" couple to a room closer to the others. When they entered that room (which was the "last available"), it was almost 90° and the HVAC was not working. After the on-site engineer looked at it, it was determined that an electrician was needed. REALLY? Again, we persevered... Until we learned that the curfew for kids on Saturday night was an hour later. That meant even an hour more of banging and yelling. We were assured by staff that, due to a multiple of other complaints, the local sheriffs were going to be on hand for added security... NOPE, still kids running around after "curfew"... Knocking on each of our doors several times. Besides, I'm sure the sheriffs had better things to do than walk the hallways of a "resort". Even before the weekend arrived, staff should have done a better job in grouping the kids in their own area. The aggravation and time consumed dealing with the kids and the staff took away from our time enjoying the atmosphere. If everything had been perfect, this resort MAY have received a 4 1/2 rating. As a recommendation, for future bookings, there would definitely be more activities during a summer stay. A final word: if you plan a stay here, call ahead of time and make sure there are no large "kid-conferences". read more

We had a very nice stay at the Stonewall Resort. The weather was nice our first day and we were able to enjoy walking around the property. The fire pit and seating areas were very nice features, but they were so full of people, we couldn't enjoy them. The main entry and seating area was beautiful! We enjoyed sitting by the inside fire a bit. Our room was clean, but the beds were very strange - extremely lumpy (visible lumps as you walked into the room) and oddly made up - the sheet to cover the mattress wasn't fitted or tucked in, so it kept slipping in the night as we slept. The toilet in our bathroom was not stable and would tilt and make you feel like you were falling over when you used it. I think they missed a step when updating the flooring in the bathrooms. The walls were very thin and we were given a room in the midst of a large group traveling g together. The kids ran up and down the hallways until about 1 am and then they put them all in the room that butted up against our headboards. We could hear them ALL NIGHT - jumping on the beds, wrestling, screaming yelling and carrying on. Luckily they were only there our first night. Had they not been leaving when we woke up, We would have talked to the front desk. The second night we could still hear people in the halls, but the room beside us was empty. The community areas and the outside of the resort are beautifully maintained. The food options on the property were very limited and very pricey. We didn't eat on site so I can't Speak to the quality. read more

This has become a family tradition when I return home to Clarksburg. We usually do our holiday dinner at the restaurant here. The Stonewall is impressive, I've never stayed here but the place looks beautiful. The buffet is stunning with seafood, sometimes a whole smoked salmon, peel and eat shrimp, oysters on half shell, smoked and cured meats, cheeses, olives, carved meats and everything else you expect to find on a buffet. The desserts usually a couple of pies, truffles, nuts, cakes, pudding, and such. Drinks are separate but you can always drink water. read more

Loved the beautiful outdoor views, but now on to the Resort review: The Stillwater's Restaurant has insanely slooow service! If you enjoy waiting 20 minutes to be acknowledged only after having to get up and tell the hostess you are still waiting on a menu and a drink order, and no one stopping back for refills, then this is the place for you. This happened each time for the 3 days we were there except for one meal. We complained to the restaurant manager & all he kept saying was, "Did you tell them you were celebrating your anniversary"? We said no because that shouldn't impact whether you receive good or bad service. Anyways, how could we when apparently we were invisible as soon as we walked into the restaurant each time. The other people around us collaborated with us how slow the service was for them as well. Now on to the room: the A/C is located high on the wall & blows down on the head of the beds. I had to sleep with a blanket over my head each night. They provide a nice warm blanket with Stonewall Resort printed on it, that's the one you'll want to put over your head. read more

This is my third trip to Stonewall in the last couple of years. We return for the golf course. I give it five stars. Everything else is three at best. The hotel rooms are very dated. The food is extremely mediocre. We have tried all the restaurants available here and find the food unexciting and lacking in flavor. I am gluten free and the options are not plentiful. When I ask the staff about options they really have no idea about gluten free options, even though they advertise gluten free on the Stillwaters menu. The spa ... I have used it twice. The two gals that do mani/ pedis are great! The massage rooms are super small and there is nothing "resort like" about them. I have only had one massage here and will never get another one. The outdoor scenery is beautiful at Stonewall. I wish there was another hotel handy to use when we come to play golf, but there isn't so we stay here. If you can stop at Stonewall for a round of golf and move on down the road, do it!!! read more

Pros: Beautiful scenery Cons: Stillwater buffet made my wife and I sick. I spent most of the first night in the bathroom hugging the toilet. High prices, low quality. If you charge high-end prices for food and beverage, how can you justify using microwaved chicken on your salad complete with fake grill marks? It was inedible. Most of the staff was friendly but I was rudely kicked out of the pub when I arrived for lunch fifteen minutes before they were open. What ever happened to "we're not open yet but feel free to come in and relax for a few minutes"? The walls are paper-thin. I was kept up by kids in the adjacent room until I finally called the front desk at 3:30 in the morning. Bottom line: I feel as if they are pretending to be a high-end resort but they do not follow through on quality or properly training their employees. And on top of that, they nickle and dime their guests at checkout to complete the bad experience. Prepare yourself for resort fees, parking fees, and park enhancement fees. Further suggestions for the resort: Replace the bleach spill stained carpet in the hallways, get some non-stained shower curtains, some fabric softener for the towels so they don't scratch your skin off, and maybe some fresh grout in the showers and a decent shower head read more

Stonewall Resort is wonderful ! We stayed for one night the weekend for our 4th Wedding Anniversary with a Spa Resort Package. We both got the couples Swedish massages, they were awesome ! The resort was so beautiful and clean. The staff and guests were super friendly. And the pillows were fluffy :-) Will definetly return. read more

My husband and I stayed at Stonewall Resort for a birthday getaway. We did the couples spa package that included massages, a room, and breakfast for a reasonable price. The building and atmosphere were beautiful. Our room had a gorgeous view if the lake. The staff was very courtesy and polite. Everything, including the amenities (gym and pool) were clean. There are a ton of free outdoor activities such as kyaking, fishing, and bicycling that come complimentary with your stay. We didn't use any of them because it was raining but if it wasn't we definitely would have. The spa staff was also fantastic. Our massages were incredible relaxing. The only complaint I would have is the restaurant situation. There's 2 restaurant in the off season (3 during the summer ), TJ Muskies and Stillwaters. TJ Muskies is a bar type place. We ate dinner there and the food was pretty good and the staff was wonderful. There weren't very many options on the menu though. The other restaurant is Stillwaters where we had breakfast and lunch, neither meal was impressive for the price. TJ Muskies is not open for lunch so you don't have much of a choice but to get Stillwaters mediocre food for fine dining prices. Plus there is nothing close to drive to, so I would suggest bringing a lot of snacks. All in all we had a wonderful time and would definitely return. read more

The walls are paper thin...it snowed our weekend so I went to do a for pedicure. The lady clearly didn't want to talk to me or be doing my pedicure.. I asked her about removing callus she refered me to buy some moisturizer... And that I needed the callus to walk?.... Yah she didn't want to scrub my feet or do anything about it...waste of my money...we did a share on Facebook of Stonewall Resort for a free smores pack! But the fire pit was gas.. Went to try it out anyway and the tank ran out and the fire was out..they took out all the vending machines, the front desk had snacks, they are really stingy and cheap, the only time you can get coffee is from a coffee place that's never open. The housekeeping banged on our doors at 8 am??!! We were sleeping in for the first time in 4 years...no thanks go away? Goodness...heard cartoons at 7 am the walls are paper thin...bed was fine but not exactly what I had hoped for a weekend away...the closest food was 30 minutes... The only two restaurants were ridiculously expensive. Good food but way jacked prices...because they know you don't want to drive 30 minute to get reasonably priced food... Lol not really a resort more so just a hotel with nice cosmetic appeal. Wish we done a holiday in with free breakfast and closer to stuff.. No free coffee except in your room. No microwave so can't do much on food options in your room. The gym area was normal gym hotel, with towels, there was a corn hole board set up, but right in front of the restraunt huge windows where everyone could watch lol. Did enjoy the scenery was gorgeous! Over all it was just overpriced... Charges for everything.... The pool looked cool but not our scene. Looked cool for family though and they did have a cute vanity room with kid toys. Also they allow pets. Which shocked me a bit. We heard lost of barking during the day and night. read more

Had an overall OK time here recently. On the positive side, the hiking, biking, swimming and golfing were all fun, especially the golf course which was top notch. The staff was all extremely polite and helpful across the board. On the negative side, the the hallway to our room on the first floor had an odd odor the entire stay, the showers haven't been update since it seems the 70's, and the food was mostly forgettable. Also, if you visit out of season the amount to do in the area disminishes quickly. read more

If you like stained carpet and old, dark, cramped, dingy rooms, then this is the place for you! Also, if you enjoy not having access to the majority of the resort most days due to weddings in the MAIN lobby and surrounding areas...then you will love it here! Seriously, this is terrible...run!!!!! the facilities are old and lacking. The activities center is ridiculous! I have never seen a miniature golf course inside that looks so home made and ridiculous! The arcade is filled with machines that do not work and staff who will not refund your money. The paddle boats are old and do not function. Event he staff will tell you at the pool area, yea they are really ol and bad! The restaurants on site are absolutely terrible! Especially the buffet for breakfast at Stillwaters! The pancakes, rolls and other items were inedible..hard as a rock...honestly this is not an exaggeration! Pretty surroundings, but honestly the worst stay in a hotel that I have ever had! I felt so blessed to be back home after leaving! I will never, ever go to this resort...again! read more

The resort fee includes a ride in their private boat which is a great bonus. They are kid friendly and have an amazing spa , and gift store ( I ended up buying some Vera Bradley stuff 40% off ) .. I have traveled to Stonewall Resort from Phoenix twice now for work related meetings. Christmas time was gorgeously decorated; The staff is really nice and helpful and it's really beautiful grounds and lobby. Food is good and meeting space is adequate for my needs. Nice gym, beautiful lobby and lake views. However a couple of major downers- I noticed during my last stay that the hotel walls are super thin! I kept hearing a baby crying and people talking as thought it was people in the hallway- but it was actually the room next door. You can really hear everything! Luckily I bring earplugs. Coffee shop should be open more often, rooms need remodeling and decor looks dated, even conference room walls are thin. Also, Stillwater's restaurant should not be adding gratuity to the bill when entire group has ordered the buffet. I could hear the housekeeping staff talking about guests and complaining on the day of checkout. The staff should know that everything can be heard through those walls! Also the front desk staff seems clueless sometimes. They charged me directly for my room instead of my company!! It was over $1000 that showed up on my card that I'm now waiting for the reversal to go through. All checkout charges should be gone through before charging guests!! Fix some of these annoying nuances! Will be trying the Greenbrier next time as there were just too many issues. read more

We drove 150+ miles expecting to play a first rate golf course but were sadly disappointed. It was not anywhere worth what we paid to play there. The practice green right outside the pro shop had an old artificial surface that was in very bad shape and as you can imagine, it was very fast given the surface was worn out. When we got out on the course the greens were the slowest I had even played on and I mean - they were really slow. The greens were generally in OK shape but there were some areas in disrepair. The fairways were nice and the traps were well kept but overall, it was not what we had hoped it would be and certainly not worth the money we paid. An interesting feature was big fans on a few holes that actually affected my shot on one hole pushing my ball down a hillside and into the woods - not something we ever see anywhere else we play. As for the staff, well that is another story. let me just say this - we get better treatment from public courses in PA where we pay $25 per round and that includes the cart, a hot dog, chips and drink at the turn and they say thank you for coming and thank you when you are done. Never a hello or thank you from anyone at this place. I think this says it all - we will not be going back to play this course. read more

Had a great stay here, was impressed with the excellent customer service and surprisingly good food. Check in and check out couldn't have been easier. I ordered room service twice and the food was delivered in a timely fashion and tasted delicious. Most places you expect to see basic things on the menu like hamburger, hot dog, etc. So it was nice to see more interesting dishes listed, like steak and ale soup, chicken and waffles, and creamy crab and corn chowder. I enjoyed the beautiful surroundings, the crackling wood burning fireplace, the heated pool, the in-house spa, and homey lobby area. My only complaint really is about the bed... I woke up sore each morning because the mattress was hard as a rock. read more

My husband and I visited friends staying at a Resort Cabin. The view was breathtakingly beautiful with scenery that is difficult to put into words. We ate at the Stillwaters Restuarant. The food and service was great! Later, we sat on the deck of the cabin that overlooked the peaceful lake. All most heaven West Virginia certainly described the Stonewall Resort. I would reccommend this resort to all families and single travelers. read more

we went to this resort for our spring break with few of our friends. we got a good deal through the Capitol Deal. It was only $99/night. But this a 4 star diamond facility. Staff was exceptionally welcoming even though the Check In Process was little slow with only person at the front desk, but he was very pleasant. They made us feel very welcome at every step. The Manager went out of his way to set up a Conference Room for our Kids do that they could all watch Movie on the Projector which really gave us some time to spend with the friends. Food was delicious and the hostesses were very professional and prompt and attentive. They also had many other activities like Canoeing, and cycling and the rental was free. The icing on the cake was the Indoor and Outdoor Pool which was heated and the Spa which we all used to our content. They really made us feel at home. The only thing lacking were the Tennis Courts. All in all a very pleasurable experience. read more

I'm not the type of person to write reviews or slam businesses on review sites, but after staying at Stonewall Resort I feel obligated to let others know what to expect. This is an establishment touted as a luxurious escape for everyday life, yet upon your stay you will notice that there is little to no hospitality and the resort seems to mainly be concerned with booking conferences and getting conference-goers to purchase overpriced hotel services. This also feeds into the revenue they get from the signature golf course I assume, which of course isn't open in the winter during our stay. At the time of our stay, both their bar and golf clubhouse restaurants were closed. There was only one restaurant available to eat from, and they closed early every night so that room service was impossible. After 7 or 8 o clock the only food available for miles was the candy bars and snacks available in the lobby. We ended up buying food at the Walmart 15 minutes out because planning around the restaurant operating times was difficult at best. We continually had to call from our room to check and double check when the coffee shop, spa, or restaurant would be open. Honestly I don't think the coffee shop ever opened and we were just told that they closed very early every morning. Restaurants wouldn't have been as much of an issue if the resort wasn't located on a mountain miles away from any other establishments. The rooms are similar to motel rooms and are seemingly clean enough, but really nothing special. Absolutely a far cry from any respectable resort that I've ever visited. We were told that the reasoning for the lack of advertised amenities was that there weren't enough people staying in the hotel to justify having the coffee shop, restaurant, spa, bar, etc open at the hours listed. Wish we would have known this before booking, because there was essentially nothing to do at the hotel besides trying to be back from exploring the area (to find something to do) early enough for dinner to still be offered. The pool was nice but you can only swim for so long, and the staff was half very nice but also half off-putting and rude. At one point we were literally the only people staying in the hotel and we were still treated like there were so many other things to attend to. The bar was closed for renovations which was not advertised on their website, and it was supposed to open the day after we arrived, but by the time we left it was still closed. When we ordered drinks at the one open restaurant, there was so few staff that the waitress or waiter had to struggle to figure out how to make complicated $10 cocktails. A $9 bloody Mary consisted of a mixer and alcohol. Due to the staff having to ham fist the drinks, they were incredibly inconsistent. Stillwater's, the only restaurant that was open, was a little pricey but had some really good food. However, some of their dishes were lackluster for how much they cost. Service was "meh" at best, and half of the menus included buffets which they didn't bother to even set up any of the days we were there. Again, it is not my fault that this "resort" couldn't get rooms booked and in my opinion the people who are staying at the hotel shouldn't be punished for the business' failure in marketing. Long story short, don't stay here during the winter because if you happen to be the unlucky guest to stay while others haven't booked, you'll basically be booked in for a boring span of days where you struggle to find something to do. I'm guessing that this goes the same in the summer as well, as their excuse was not "this is how it is in the winter", it was that there were not enough people booked. I gave two stars because one star felt too harsh, however during the hours we wondered around the hotel and sat in the evening with no access to warm food or even a microwave in our room, one star would have been fitting. read more

We had a lovely stay at the resort and enjoyed the grounds and relaxation. The staff was wonderful - friendly and gracious. The only downside of the stay was the food quality. Having read mediocre reviews before our stay we decided to try just sandwiches in the pub. A basic burger and fries was less than expected in quality. We chose to eat outside the resort for our remaining stay and found several excellent places. read more

This was our third trip to Stonewall Resort and I believe it will be our last. The staff try really hard, but the resort is terribly managed. The front desk was very sweet and worked to accommodate us in the room type we had requested (but wasn't available when we checked in). The rooms are average hotel rooms. Nothing spectacular but nothing awful either. You don't spend much time there, so it was OK for us. Furnishings are dated (even though we were in a "renovated room"). What bothered me was the service for the room, even though we tipped housekeeping well. It was not vacuumed for our entire stay. Our coffee station was not refreshed our entire stay. Also, our shower did not drain and you stood in washwater past your ankles every time. We called to complain about it DAILY and it was never fixed. The lake is very pretty and kayaking on the lake is very peaceful. Kayaking is our favorite thing to do at the resort. The staff down at the boathouse are very nice! Hiking trails are short but fun for a stretch of the legs. The golf course is lovely. The fire pit is a nice spot to make some s'mores in the evening. The pool is gross. It is NOT CLEAN. One hot tub was broken (no jets) and the other had a disgusting green film all over the tile and was creating grey foam with the jets. **shudder** If you get any of the pool water on your lips, it is SALTY....meaning many many people have either got in sweaty or have used the pool as their own personal bathroom. Lord knows when the water was last changed out since the pool is open year round. There were bandaids floating around in the water. It was very very disgusting. There are no lifeguards, so there were: people in the pool with open beverages, people using their bluetooth portable speakers to "share" their play list with you at high volumes, people roughhousing and jumping in the pool on top of each other, people using large floats in a small pool with many many other bathers, drunk people using profanity next to small children....not a great situation. The restaurants....oh my word, they are a disaster. There is a buffet every morning and evening and if you like processed banquet type meals, you will be happy if not feeling a little ripped off at the price. Otherwise, you will order off a menu and wait FOREVER to get your mediocre meal. In one case, we waited 45 minutes for a grilled cheese. Another time, an hour and 10 minutes for a cheese pizza. Our BLT took 50 minutes. Another time, we never did get our omelette. All others in our party were served, but one of us went hungry. For real. If the resort was situated in an area where there were decent options off property, I'm sure the restaurants would be empty. read more

We came to stonewall for the polar express experience. The lobby is beautiful but we didn't find the resort to be 4 stars as the website proclaimed. The greeter at the front gate was abrupt and not very welcoming. Check in went smoothly and the lobby is beautifully decorated for Christmas which was nice. The room was subpar. Definitely not 4 Star... think holiday inn that needs some updating. There were numerous stains on our carpet and the bed is extremely firm. There were also five flies in the window when I pull the drapes back that I had to kill along with some dead ones already laying there. We were very excited to try out the family game room which said it had toys and games for families to play. We found it was closed with a sign on the window saying it was closed for holiday preparations. We never got to enjoy it. We went down to the fitness area to purchase two beverages and waited 20 minutes and even looked for an employee with no luck. We paid well over $400 for the room and honestly will not do so again. The staff was pleasant but the amenities and room just don't live up to the price. The Stonewall Resort is fantastic! We just wrapped up a weeks stay there and loved it! The place is a beautiful location in the rolling hills. Lots of things to do. Over 16 miles of hiking trails through the beautiful woods of WV. Boat rentals at the marina; paddle boards, pedal boats, kayaks and canoes can be rented closer to the lodge. Bike and Segway rentals are also available plus a stunning golf course and campgrounds. The food was so good! And the staff is really what I want to boast about. Attention to detail and attentive to the customer! It was bar none some of the best staff I've ever seen! So refreshing these days, where it seems customer service isn't a priority in many places. They were awesome and it just put our stay over the top. This place is dog friendly with lots of places to exercise your pet. Plenty of "bags" on site to clean up after they've done their business. The swimming pool and exercise room were amazing, although I didn't take advantage of them due to the fact our pooch didn't like being in the room by herself. My only suggestion would be to have an on-sight doggy daycare. We totally would've taken advantage of it. If you're looking for a week or weekend getaway let me recommend Stonewall. Only wish we could've come a week or two later to see the autumn foliage. I'm sure it is stunning! read more

If the prices were 40-60% this would be 4-stars. If the service were average for a full service it would be 3 stars. It's a terrible value and the service, while friendly, is not commiserate with the price. For $300 a night one gets a very average room. For $50 one gets a below average buffet and a single glass of wine and an obligatory 20% gratuity. I have a bias against buffets but this one really stood out and not in a good way. For $135 one gets a very average round of golf. Maybe this is "fancy" for where it is but it really isn't. Our parties general reaction to most things was, "wow, really?" The rooms were very roomy, comfortable and well kept. I had a lovely view of the lake from my room. Wonderful amenities. Pool, bar, onsite restaurant, room service, etc. Outdoor lakeside seating. A firepit with s'mores. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Onsite valet who were extremely helpful. When they found out it was my birthday trip, they sent a nice acknowledgment of balloons to my room. The Stillwaters buffet is well worth the price. The resort had so many recreational options available right there at the resort. Paddleboats, pontoons were available right there. Hiking trail right from the resort. Golfing, camping, dock, etc. The only issue was that the lake cruise was always cancelled. Otherwise, had a relaxing and fun time!! Would definitely go back. read more

So I went to this resort for a two night stay for a girls weekend away for a 40th birthday getaway. We reserved two rooms for the trip and were excited to relax and have some fun. To start- 1. the Valet parking was less than desirable. It took forever to get someone to help us. And our two friends who came later actually had to leave their cars parked there per the valet who said he would get them later. The front desk actually called us and hour later in our room to say they had to move immediately. I explained that they were parked there per the valet so he could park their car. I think this lack of communication sums up the whole place as we experienced this over and over again. 2. Our room. We did not get to check in our room until around 7pm! We arrived around 4 and our rooms were not ready. We left our number to call us when it was ready and that never happened. By 7 we came to the desk and the valet actually asked where we had been as he was concerned about getting out luggage to our room. So nice of him- he was great, but again, no communication. 3. The hotel. The hallway's smelled of skunk, no other way to describe it. 4. Amenities- we were given no information about the property, spa, thinks to do, the pool etc. Even the room had no information. 5. Which lead me to the pool incident. Our day was planned to hang in the pool and relax. Apparently you need a wrist band that one member of my group was rudely informed after we had been at the pool for 4+ hours? Had we known, we would have complied. The pool is crowded, lots of kids that are allowed to throw balls and splash away. This is fine, just not what was expected of a "resort". 6. Pool side lunch. There is a lunch and drink menu, but it took them over an hour to deliver! The waitress was not around a lot to serve which was disappointing. Our lunch was cool and took way to long. 7. Food in general. It's okay but nothing to rave about. The menus look great, but the food is collage cafeteria quality. Which also leads me to the wait staffs lack of knowledge of the menu and poor service. We actually got charged to out room another parties bill even after we told them those people were not with us. Very disorganized. 8. The staff. I will say everyone was polite and friendly. Very nice staff, just not informed of what they are doing and what is going on at the resort. 9. Over all our stay was not what we anticipated. The view is beautiful but that is about it. We would have loved to do some water activities or even the spa, but without any idea of what is going on, or hours of operation we just relaxed. 10. Lastly, I must mention the coffee area in the lobby. LONG wait because there is a line at 7am, and no cups. Once you get to the front you tell the girl what size you want, she rings you up and then you have to remind her to go in the back, yes- in the back room, and get your cup! Could be more efficient with their set up as we all wait for our morning pick me up! We had, fun as a group but I would not return, even for a couples weekend. All the negative reviews here are a bunch of BS!!!! We stayed here the last 3 days. When we arrived we were promptly greeted. Everywhere we went on the resort all the employees always greeted us, in the hallways they said hello or good morning, afternoon, evening to us. This resort is beautiful!!! The most fun we had was renting 2 kayaks to go on the lake, we had an awesome time!!!! Two kayaks for an hour were only $10, if you want to rent a kayak for a whole day it's $15 for one or $30 for two. The pool area was beautiful, all sorts of hiking trails and after 4 pm for I think it was $10 you can rent a golf cart to drive on the trails (we did not do this because the afternoon we wanted to do it, it was pouring rain like a hurricane). The only reason I don't give this resort 5 stars is that the all you can eat breakfast buffet is expensive and the biscuits were not good and neither were the waffles, too dense on both, they probably over stirred the batter. However, both the wife and I wish we stayed more days there. Also, reviews saying valets steal is a crock of bs, nobody employed there ever stole stuff from our room or anywhere else. Furthermore, you do not have to valet the car, so don't valet it and don't leave valuables in your vehicle!! Also plenty of restaurants 10 to 20 minutes away that are good. read more

Not really a five diamond property, just on paper. Three Yelp stars at best. Room furniture is worn/damaged, we had two lightbulbs out, and not the most presentable staff in the world (high obesity rate). Lots of good amenities, but it's not likely worth the money charged. read more

We enjoyed our time here. We purchased a Groupon that let us get the room for around $125/night everything included. I'm amazed that people say they paid $300 or $400 a night for this place. $125 a night is a good deal - $175 would be fair - $300 a night is insanity. We enjoyed the hiking trails, an outdoor hot tub, and an indoor / outdoor pool. We went in the winter, so a lot of the things like boat rides were not available, but the bonus was that it was deserted and we felt like we had the whole place to ourselves. Rooms were clean. The fireplace in the great room was very nice and cozy. The restaurants were okay, nothing special. Overall this was a nice, budget getaway - would not go there solely for the "resort experience" though! read more

We planned a family trip to Stonewall Jackson resort and were looking forward to the trip for months. We had heard good things and needed a relaxing vacation. We like to travel with our well-behaved doggy family member and called ahead to check to make sure that they accept pets. Good thing, they did! The drive to the resort was nice, especially this time of year with the changing leaves. We checked in and were ready to get our relaxation started. Then...the phone rang. The manager on the phone rudely explained that we would have to leave the resort because our dog was over their "weight limit" of 40 pounds. We told him that we were not informed of this when we made our reservation, but he said that they are "strict about the policy" and we would have to go. So, total stay was about 5 minutes, almost all unpleasant. Don't be fooled by thier pet policy, the resort is clearly not "pet-friendly" . read more

My wife and I went there for our 35th anniversary. Mother nature played a trick on us as we has snow squalls in the middle of April. Our contention was that with outdoor activities being limited by the weather, we were pretty much sequestered to the indoors. Unbeknownst to us, that the resort had scheduled 2 back to back weddings in their main lobby. This made all the common space not accessible for the majority of visit. Additionally, we inquired about the times and reservation for their lake cruise and were informed that it was shut down until later this month. I had confirmed its availability when I called and booked our stay. Having nothing to do and very limited places to go within the resort because of the weddings and the preparation for them, we either stayed in our room or ventured to the local areas. Had I known that this would be the only viable activity available to us, we could had stayed at a much less expensive lodging. Additionally, being charged $15 per day for a resort fee was ludicrous! I complained to the front desk and they removed that from my bill. Being a member of AAA I usually use their rating system as a guided and felt comfortable planning our weekend with a 4 diamond rated facility. Our room was no different that what you would find at a Days inn or Motel 6. The bathroom tile had mold growing on the grout, the sofa was turn and worn on the arms to the point where the foam was poking through and the bed was one of the most uncomfortable ones I 've ever slept on. Getting down to the restaurants was another story. How can you call your friday night "fish Buffet" when there is only one fish presented. In our case it was cajun catfish which was so spicy it was difficult to eat a second bite! The wait staff was hit or miss. Some were extremely nice and then there was "Dale".... my wife was mad that I even left him a tip, for the arrogance he displayed toward us. The restaurant at the golf course was closed for the season, and the bar was packed with people attending the various weddings. It should have been pointed out to us that the resort was going to taken over by these weddings and that some of the resort amenities would not be available. Knowing this situation, I would not have scheduled our visit for this time and deferred it to another time. When I originally scheduled this visit, I was told the total price for one each day was a certain amount and when I got there a different amount was presented. They had no evidence of the amount I was told. Additionally, I specifically asked if there were any other fees that I would incur and I was told there would not be any. Dont go there for the food................ it's nothing to speak of Dont believe the price you are quoted when you reserve your stay, if you want to do anything, it becomes ala a cart Do consider staying at a less expensive place in Weston or Clarksburg that may provide more comfortable lodging and Do visit the lake, it is very pretty! read more

The resort was in a beautiful setting. The lodge was well decorated. The restaurants had breath taking views. The trails to hike on were excellent. The food was great but very pricey. The resort had an amazing children's play area. It is so good to see a resort that cares about children. It was great that they had bikes, kayaks, canoes, and other equipment you could rent. Their pool had an amazing indoor/outdoor area. The fire pit area was nice but I do think they should allow you to have a beer out by the fire. My only real big concern was the poor condition of the carpeting through out the resort hallways and in my hotel room. There were stains and sticky stuff on the carpet. Please make this change!!! The bedding was nice and fresh. read more
