West Virginia doesnt get enough credit. This resort is hidden away (about 2 hrs driving from PIT) but its located in lush green landscape of golf course, mountains, lakes and nature. The property has a lodge feel which showcases stuffed game and features cozy fire place and lounge area complete with fire pits. This place offers fun for the golfer- we had a golf team builder up at lightburns at the top of the 18th hole- really fun and pretty views. Great for a night of fireworks and a band playing while u sit on hay bales and enjoy some good bbq home cooking. There seems to be gorgeous space at the recreational activities- paddle boats and basketball courts. The service at the hotel is excellent!!! The rooms are clean and comfortable- but slightly outdated. Def the nicest accommodations you'll find in the area. Plus there is conference space for groups and a spa and plenty of restaurant choices for fun outdoors or kicking back and resting. read more

The resort was in a beautiful setting. The lodge was well decorated. The restaurants had breath taking views. The trails to hike on were excellent. The food was great but very pricey. The resort had an amazing children's play area. It is so good to see a resort that cares about children. It was great that they had bikes, kayaks, canoes, and other equipment you could rent. Their pool had an amazing indoor/outdoor area. The fire pit area was nice but I do think they should allow you to have a beer out by the fire. My only real big concern was the poor condition of the carpeting through out the resort hallways and in my hotel room. There were stains and sticky stuff on the carpet. Please make this change!!! we stayed at the resort this past weekend. We have 2 young kids so we opted to rent one of their lakeside cottages. The staff was very accomodating on our request for an early check in. Our cabin was clean and stocked with the typical but required ammenties for a cottage. Full set of glasses, pots, plans etc. The cottage had a nice gas fired fireplace but it is positioned next to the kitchen table. In front of or near the couch would work better. The lone TV was old. It is time to update to a flat screen and something larger than 19 inches. The bathrooms were fairly large. My wife noted that the sink needs to have a vanity. there was plenty of room and if you are going to call yourself a resort something other than a wall mounted sink is in order. The food was exceptional, breakfast was buffet style but they did have made to order omlets, pancakes and crepes. The chef was very pleasant and willing to do whatever she could for your order. The park that the resort is located in is state owned so there is plenty of room to run and bike and do whatever. There were several people swimming outdoors in the pool which was quite odd but whatver works for them. I would love to go back next summer. read more

Can't say enough good things about Stonewall. My fiancee and I went down to the resort to look at it as a potential location for our wedding. Sadly, we were a little early in our visit to see all the activities that will be available during a spring/summer visit. However, we saw enough to decide that THIS is where we want to get married. The food that we had while eating in Stillwaters was prepared by externs and it was delicious! Can't wait to see what their executive chef does! All the staff that that we dealt with was helpful and friendly, specifically Curt and Terry in their food department and Kelly, with event planning. If you are looking for a nice weekend getaway or a place to hold an important event, definitely keep Stonewall Resort in mind! read more

Well it was our 32nd anniversary my husband and I saved up to go to this resort because it is one of my favorite resorts to stay at with my sisters. My husband had never stayed and i really talked it up to him at how wonderful it was....was being the key word. It was such a bad experience this time around. First of all the fire alarm went off at 7:30 in the morning. No one knew what was going on. We just stayed up and went out for a walk. Then we tried to go to breakfast at Stillwaters and when we walked into the empty dingroom, they asked us if we had a reservation!!!! We looked around an only 2 other tables filled. We said no and asked if there was somewhere else we could eat breakfast and they just said no this is the only place. Wow!!!! Another woman came over and said something to her and all of a sudden they had "room" for us ( in the empty dining room ). We were so upset by then we just politely told our waitress we were skipping breakfast. What a bummer, this could have been a great anniversary. We packed up and left and it seemed to get much better after that! Beware. read more

Well, the past two nights we spent at Stonewall lake....this is our review...gorgeous setting at our private lake house, with that being said, the beds, pillows and blankets were horrible...we got 4 hours of sleep last night..and the only reason we slept, was because of sheer exhaustion from our first night here....won't be going back or recommending it for rest!!! The resort was beautiful. However, we had some less than acceptable experiences. The front desk staff is the first impression of a resort, for first impressions, this one was bad. The suite we were staying in was not ready in any sort of a timely manner, she could not give us an estimate of when the room would even be ready, and she was extremely rude. Very disappointing when this was our second time staying at the resort. We did speak to the manager about our issues, he promised us he would take a look at our portfolio to see what he could do to make the situation right. Upon checkout, it appeared that he "forgot" to look into anything. We stayed in a Presidential Suite, there's a certain level of expectations for a suite, this one fell extremely short. There was one King Bed and two pull out beds. The pull out beds were awful, I believe springs were broken, making it a very *non-restful* two nights. Finally, as a person who takes her online data privacy seriously, it was an issue that there was non-secure internet. It seems like something that is too easy to do to give your guests that extra peace of mind. There was a plethora of outdoor activities to choose from, and the pricing was great. The restaurant was a little over priced, but the food was good. In room service was wonderful. As for the wait staff, they went above and beyond to make sure we had a wonderful experience. I expected more for spending $1,700 for two nights at this resort. Disappointing. read more

If 3 1/2 stars were available, that would be my rating. Closer to 4. I feel like I can't give a fair review because my husband and I were there about a month before their peak season starts. I didn't see the inside of any of the cabins, but the lodge was very nice. Our room was very clean and comfortable. The view was spectacular from our room. Because we were "pre-season", some of the amenities/activities were not available. We had summer weather for our April visit. Our visit to the spa was spectacular. Five stars there. They have three restaurants, but only 2 were available until some time in May. The food at Stillwater was upscale and tasty. Service was very good and the staff very friendly. They offer a breakfast and dinner buffet in addition to a somewhat limited menu. The other restaurant, TJ Muskies, was a very laid back bar and grill. Mostly burgers and flatbread pizza. A nice bar. Again, somewhat limited menu considering they are more than 6 miles from any other options. I liked that everything was laid back and I felt comfortable in jeans , t-shirt and hoodie. The grounds were nicely kept and they were doing a lot of routine/seasonal maintenance, gearing up for their busy season. Hiking trails were nicely marked and one of the highlights of our stay. Tennis courts are brand new...we may have been the first ones on them! Bring your own bike, especially if you're interested in riding on trails. The bikes they offer are strictly road bikes. They have a nice little playroom for younger kids. They could use a "pre teen/teen area". Their back patio area is beautiful with a giant fire pit as it's centerpiece. Definitely a nice getaway for adults without kids or with younger kids. I think my teens would have been bored. read more

We spent one night there after Christmas and the overall experience was very nice. Front desk staff were very friendly and helpful. The main dining restaurant was a little over priced but the buffet food was good. Next time I think we'll stick with the pub/smaller restaurant they have on sight. The prices and options were better suited for us. My only disappointment was the spa. I had booked a gel manicure and was very disappointed in the service. The nail technician spent about 15 minutes on my "manicure." The gel polish was uneven and spotty on most of my nails. I did not want to leave her a tip but spa policy requires it. $66 for a 15 minute manicure where she spent about 2-3 minutes filing my nails and then sloppily applying the polish was not worth it to me. I don't know that I could recommend any nail services at their spa. My husband had a massage that he enjoyed and said he would do again. We would like to return in the spring/summer with our children but will probably avoid the spa all together. read more

This is not the first time my mother and I have stayed here, she is a part of the WV Math Conference. However, one year ago March 3rd my father passed away, he was buried on mothers birthday, March 6th. Today would have been his 81st birthday. Now I know your staff didn't know this, but... I just wanted to thank you for making her stay here a wonderful one. From the time we walked up to the main entry, it started there, we greeted with smiling faces and a helpful hand. It did not stop there, EVERY staff member we passed or ran into, was very polite and very helpful. This weekend was so important to her for so many reasons, of coarse the conference, but to just get away from home and to be treated with such respect. I can not thank your staff enough. My Mother is the world to me and to see her a great weekend at your resort made it even better. I would love to be able to bring her up again when she can truly relax with no learning session and just be able to enjoy all you have to offer! Again thank you! read more

This resort in a beautiful setting with spectacular views. We came for the first time for the golf and spa weekend. My husband enjoyed the golf very much, and although I had a bit of a hiccup with my spa experience, the evening manager turned it around. We will definitely be be back. read more

Just left yesterday and we loved the place. The staff was wonderful, the place beautiful and my boys we exhausted every night !!! So much to keep busy and yet quiet times all at once. Loved not having to pack helmets, bikes, boats...they had it all. The game room was cool too. Felt secure enough to let the boys, 12 and 9, run from pool to room and back. My only hmmmm was not enough dresser space in the room and with 4 people I had to leave some clothing in the suitcases. But other than that I am planning a return real soon. well ,we used to love this place. we stayed at the resort several times throughout the year. They until last August gave a tremendous military discount ,now the discount is next to nothing. they also provided a boat dock for however many nights stay at the resort. This has now stopped ,they want an extra 45.00 dollars a night to dock your boat. The military rate went from roughly 125.00 -130.00 a night to !88.00. We also used to stay in the fall early spring before , we started boating for the year. We also liked the free hour at a time yolo boards and kayaks. they now give you a few chips for that once you use chip you must buy more. They're still advertising the free boat dock/slip with your stay, but not honoring there word. to put it mildly our last stay was shitty. The service in TJ muskies used to be great, again very poor service the last three times we've been. We have docked at the bottom and just went up and ate .... foods good service ...NOT !!!They used to have a huge Musky behind the bar which the place was named after they removed it and sent it to the wildlife building. I ask and they said several people had inquired and were supposed to be bringing it back. I ask about the other poor services at the desk, and was just told new mgt and changes. I said I could tell it was new management. I ask to talk to the resort Mgr was told he was in a breakfast meeting. I spent probably 1500-2000 dollars a year at this place. can i give less than 1 star? recently stayed for a wedding. food was terrible, staff of "resort" made it clear they did not want to be there. wait staff at wedding stole my wifes purse(got it back sans cash). bartender intentionally overcharged and i had to fight with manager to get the $25 i didnt charge back on my bill. bar staff flipped out when we wanted to combine tables for dinner. entire resort is in disrepair. evrything is overpriced($100 for 5 shots and a beer). the only saving grace was the evening managers efforts in the purse situation. nearest non resort amenity is about 20 minutes away and they dont even sell basics on sight.(if you venture to the "town" be prepared for shirtless and shoeless hillbillies...literally...in the store) can not bring your own food or drink onto property but they will be happy to sell it to you for double the cost. do not ever ever ever visit this hellhole....way to go wv....continue being a fail. The facility is a three star with a five star customer service. The resort and views are stunningly beautiful!! We went for spring break with big group of 20 people(10 adults, 10 kids). They were very accomodating...for breakfast tables, kids activities, making conference room available for us to watch a movie, arranging for massages, pool activities, getting fire pit ready. They even let the adults eat from the buffet with the kids without charging extra(adults mainly ordered from a la carte). The staff has been the sweetest ever. There were staff people all over the resort asking if we needed anything at all times. The gave us to go boxes to fill up from the breakfast buffet. Most of the outdoor activities were closed due to the weather but we still had enough to do for 3 days. The restaurant choices were not much. Ended up going to Don Patron mexican restaurant fifteen minutes away on our third night of dinner. It was delicious. But hats off to amazing customer service. Thank you Stonewall!! read more

I recently stayed at the Stonewall resort while on business. The area is in the middle of the mountains and the leaves were just starting to change. As we pulled in there were 7 deer around the driveway, I could feel the day as well as the drive melting away in this peaceful setting. The check in was quick and painless. My room was very nice , clean and comfortable with a brand new LG television a soft and comfortable bed. The view across the lake with the trees in all their glory was breathtaking and again I was able to count about 10 deer. Dinner in Stillwaters was incredible great choices ( we had sirloin, pork, chicken, seafood and a couple of pasta dishes) The desert bar was wonderful, the staff very attentive the food was all 5 star. We went across the hall to the bar, once again the staff was very friendly, well stocked bar with good selection. After a few nightcaps went to my room climbed into my soft bed and had a great nights sleep! The breakfast buffet at Stillwaters was just as amazing as the dinner. I already told my wife we will be back soon. If you want a nice quiet place to get away and unwind this is what you have been looking for, oh and by the way a stellar golf course too! read more

I have been involved in the Restaurant Industry at a corporate level for years, and yes I have standards for quality and service of what I expect. At a recent trip to Stonewall Jackson Lodge Restaurant I experienced what I conceder one of the worst dining experiences of my life, the food was of no more quality than you would receive at a 5 and dime store in the 1960's, for a top of the line Lodge I expected more. The Brussel sprouts were dry and tasted as if someone that was a 1st year Culinary Degree drop out had prepared them, the pork was no better, it was over cooked and as dry as sand. Then if we move on to the pasta, again over cooked and the tomato paste that was on it had no flavor, any 1st grader could do better with a bottle of Ketchup. The soup was so salty that it too was not eatable, on a good note the rolls not bad for a frozen product. The brighter part of my experience is that I am on a diet and did not over eat. read more
