Clean, rustic, big arenas, access to loads of trails and a person who runs/owns it who goes above and beyond and is a real horseman. Pay your bills on time, don't gossip, follow the rules, be respectful and you'll have ZERO problems. Mgt has walked my gelding twice before I could get there when he was slightly colicing. I'm so grateful to have a real horse person watching out for our horse. I've also seen him catch loose horses for people, help people move tack from shed to shed, he's always helping out. I'm sad that I have to do this, but if you care about your horses, stay away from this place. The owner is cheap and buys garbage hay. She left her "ranch hand" in charge of running the place and he knows absolutely NOTHING about horses. They will treat you like you are stupid and talk poorly about you behind your back.. I caught them doing this about me numerous times and would politely warn them that I wasn't as dumb as they thought I was. They sold me a horse that, while fairly good on trails, had been badly abused and was used for tripping. (My vet confirmed) and yet before I bought the horse I was told "oh he just does that. He's okay." They sold a dangerous horse to a newer rider with no remorse for what could happen to the rider OR the horse. I also caught them not feeding my mare and not cleaning out the stalls properly. I've had to undo and redo just about everything Jody "trained" my horse to do. They were paid over $1500 to work with my mare 4 to 5 times a week. This meant if one week was 4 times, the next would be 5 times. She worked with my mare 1, maybe 2 times. Jody wouldn't allow the proper work to happen because if my mare had proper training, I'd stop needing lessons, hence she would lose money. Angel, her "ranch hand" will cuss you out if you do anything he doesn't like. He cussed me out for putting shavings in my horse's stall after I paid him $200 to clean it and put mats down. He didn't clean it properly and my gelding was put in the stall with another horse's pee mess. My gelding ( the abused horse I bought from Angel) had NEVER had his teeth done, and at some point has likely been smacked in the mouth so hard by an object that he has a straight crack across his teeth. I was also told me that if my mare tosses her head, to smack her between the ears with my quip or reins.. that's a great way to get a headshy horse, to say the least. There are broken pipes and equipment all over the place, they left placenta of a new foal in a stall for over two weeks, they keep the manure bin really close to the hay, and there were empty beer cans all over the place. They have some guy float teeth illegally. I was leased a horse with summer sores that were so bad, that it developed into cancer and the owner would give him pain meds (supposedly... I highly doubt it though.) and still make him do English riding lessons. When we had to evacuate due to fire, they left my mare at the evac center and took literally all the others. The animal control officer told me that I should move my hoses to another stable because animal control had been called on this place several times and the officer saw them being really rough and mean to the horses.   I could go on but even writing just this is making me upset. I moved to a new spot and I warned the owner that if I left, a lot of other horses would go too.. I wasn't wrong. Now, after a few months of work, my horses are some of the most coveted at my new spot. They were "trash" horses to Stoney Point. I'll never go back here, nor would I ever buy a horse from them again either. I don't even know how this place is still allowed to be open. Save your horses and yourself the hassle and go to a different boarding spot. UPDATE: All you have to do is read through the reviews. The Owner and ranch hand had their buddies go in and leave reviews. For example, Linda is a friend of the owner and didn't even have a horse at the ranch when I left. Karen was friends with Jody and had horses at the ranch. Sarah often complained about the filth, abuse and trash talking that went on. So yes, take the reviews with a grain of salt. I will add that it IS possible that Angel cleaned the place up, but I haven't been back to that hellhole to see for myself. Jody moved out of state and has continued to neglect, starve and abuse the animals she has under her care. I was utterly disgusted by the information I got. read more

Happy I'm not there anymore that's all I can say. I'm very thankful for the amazing gelding I bought from Jody in September, and I'm so happy to have him out of that place. The barn is a fire hazard from top to bottom, horses aren't cared for, stalls aren't cleaned and if they are it's very lazy cleaning. Several horses on the property are emaciated, the farrier they use has no clue what he's doing, my horses feet were a mess when I had my farrier of ten years look at them and begin to fix them. I never felt comfortable with my horse being there, I found myself worrying constantly that something would happen and no one would contact me because there's no boarding/leasing/sales contracts whatsoever. No info owners give to someone in charge. It's a disaster waiting to happen. Again, so thankful for my gelding who's already looking and feeling better since I bought him and moved him but I'm happy we're out of there. read more

I have been bringing my daughter for about a month now for horse back riding lessons and let me tell you she is always excited to come and learn more about horse back riding !!!! I have boarded horses at Stoney Point Ranch for over 30 years through good times and bad, fires and earthquakes, and several management changes. The ranch today is the very best I have seen it. The new manager has worked miracles in cleaning up and improving the stalls and arenas, the horses are well fed, and he has brought in a wonderful trainer to offer lessons. I board three horses there now and could not be happier. read more

I have been visiting Stoney Point Ranch for about 25 years as a boarder & a visitor to hang out with the horses when I had none. It is a great place & a Chatsworth fixture. Please take the negative reviews with a huge grain of salt. In reading the negative reviews, I really wonder if those people know ANYTHING about horses. The horses are well taken care of at Stoney Point. I see one photo of a super skinny horse - not uncommon for a 35 year old horse. I see photos of a couple of wet corrals which is not uncommon at a stable of this size - horses drink a LOT of water & pee a LOT; if I saw photos of 20 wet corrals like those pictured, I would be concerned. One person said his horse lost 150# - some horses are not easy keepers and if an owner decides not to supplement their horse, then it is on them; maybe the horse needed its teeth floated and/or a worming which is again the owner's responsibility. Broken boards, broken pipes, wet corrals - horses BREAK things all the time. Some horses like to keep their nose in their automatic waterer to keep the water running & end up flooding their stalls/corrals. The top comment was saying the owner is a chain smoking hillbilly. Neither is true. Based on some of the comments, I don't even think some the negative reviewers were even at Stoney Point, but may have confused SP with another stable. read more

I have boarded my horses at Stoney Point for years and have never seen it in better condition. The long time caretaker left the ranch to her ranch hand, and he has been making improvements every day. If we ever have any concerns, he addresses them right away. It's nice being able to speak directly to the person making the repairs, if needed. I was at stoney point for quite some time before i realized how much of a shit show it is there! Honestly if you care about your horse and self respect, I wouldn't ever consider boarding there. I bought a horse and she came in the perfect weight she should be.... that quickly changed after they starved her with shitty hay and only one flake in the morning and one flake at night even if the flake only weight two pounds!!! That's practically starving your horse! My horse lost so weight it was saddening to look at her she had lost almost 200 pounds in less than a half year!!! The owner never cared about the horses it was always about the money. She would literally let horses die alone in their stall without calling a vet out or even going to comfort it in its last moments... it was inhumane. The ranch was never clean and the arena was horrible..... there's a water pipe sticking out of it! read more

I love Stoney Point, and I've had my horse there for several years. Angel has done an amazing job of fixing things up and the place looks amazing! The Horses are NOT starving. In fact, Angel is buying better quality hay. If your horse needs more hay then you pay for more. The arena is regularly dragged. The stalls that were in bad shape have been graded and more dirt put in. The main riding instructor is awesome and he has a couple of people who also give lessons who are great. There is plenty of room to ride and turn out horses. Angel walks the property several times a day including during the night to check on the horses. Stoney Point has reasonable prices so boarders like me can board and take lessons. Please take the negative reviews with a grain of salt, and come see the place yourself! read more

My friend and I came to Stoney Point Ranch for riding lessons with Jody. She was a great teacher! Personally, I'm a beginner. I have some experience from back when I was probably about 10, but even that was very minimal. As a beginner, she paired me with the perfect horse! My friend used to compete back in high school. Both of us found the experience very rewarding. I feel like I learned quite a bit. I also love the farm itself and it's beautiful setting! They have tons of other animals there as well. We will definitely be returning regularly :) I have no idea why there aren't tons more five star reviews for this ranch... People who take horse back riding lessons must not be very big Yelpers! I just experienced the rudest interaction I've had. I talked to the owner on the phone about boarding, and she was extremely rude. She was very short and doesn't accommodate different feeds (ie the barn only feeds 1 flake of alfalfa in AM and 1 flake of 3 way in PM), and she said word for word: "I'm not interested in having you here if your horse needs different hay." I have been a boarder at Stoney Point Ranch for 10 years and consider it to be happy place in this world. All of the bad reviews are from selfish people that don't have anything better to do . I love horse's all horses not just my own and have never seen any of the straight out lies that have been said nor would I sit by and allow any horse to suffer at the hands of anyone. I now work turning out 35 of the horses at Stoney Point and see all that goes on there. Angel is doing a great job managing the ranch and continues to make it a better place for the people and the horses . Speak with any of the long time boarders and they will agree that Angel has put his heart , time and money on improvements for the comfort and health of the horses and the happiness of the boarders which in itself can be a toughs job. The owner of this ranch is a real piece of work. One of the rudest people I've ever met. Not sure she should own a business that interacts with the public. Based on prior reviews, it seems I'm not the only person who has had a rude interaction with her. To be fair, I wasn't a paying customer -- but at this point, I never will be and highly recommend anyone else who plans to be to go somewhere else first. My 16 year old cat had just passed away the day before. I was pretty upset and we had just come from donating her food/litter to a local shelter. My boyfriend thought it would be nice if maybe we found some sort of public horse ranch/stables that might let me pet their horses or something for a few minutes as a way to comfort me. I love all animals and used to ride horses a bit when I was younger. we looked on google maps for horseback riding or horse ranches and found this place. The gate was wide open and we drove on in. There were a bunch of horse trailers and a few people standing around in the "parking lot", so we figured it was a public place. I wasn't sure where to go to talk to someone about petting a horse though. There was no clear "office" or anything...as we wandered over towards the horses, a beautiful white horse was sticking her head out of the fence, clearly interested in saying hello. So I walked over to her and was just gently petting her head/nose when I hear this hillbilly/chain-smoking banshee voice shouting "Can I help you???" I looked around and didn't see anyone at first so she shouted again, even meaner "CAN I HELP YOU!?!?!?", so we walked over and told her we just came upon her place and were hoping to just pet/visit with some horses for a few minutes and she snapped "THIS IS MY BACKYARD! YOU SHOULDN'T BE HERE!". I told her we found her on google by looking up horseback riding and she said "WELL THEN MAKE AN APPOINTMENT AND COME BACK ANOTHER TIME". She was soooo rude and mean and I told her my cat had just died and I was just looking for something to help me feel better and she was like "I DON'T COME TO YOUR BACKYARD AND BOTHER YOU"...so we left immediately and I told her not to worry...I'd never bother her or her stupid business again. This place does not look like anyone's HOME...and it clearly is a business. We were there on a Saturday at 4pm...not an unreasonable time. It's like if I went to Home Depot to look at different paint colors and they started shouting at me telling me I was in their home and to only come back if I made an appointment. Maybe she shouldn't leave her gate wide open if she doesn't want visitors. No, I wasn't a paying customer, and I get that. But yelling at people for no reason is no way to ensure a future customer! read more

i am so disappointed in myself for staying there for even a day. while i will say stoney point created the rider i am today, there are so many more cons of this place than there are pros. for starters, the property. the arena footing gets dragged once a year for the annual tradition in chatsworth, day of the horse. the footing is full of giant stones and nails. so many horses have gotten injured from tripping, getting rocks in their hooves, or have gotten major splinters when tripping over the jumps. the poles are absolutely disgusting. they would turn out foals in the main arena, and they would eat and break the poles. the poles are literally toothpicks and broke every week. not only is the footing full of rocks, it is hilly. it felt like riding on an uneven horse. if u even slowly slid off of the horse, i guarantee you will get road rash everywhere. the stalls are completely disgusting. you weren't allowed to put shavings in it. if your horse pooped in the cross ties, they would make you throw it into the arena. angel would throw beer cans EVERYWHERE around the barn. there were about 12 huge trash bags full of empty cans that would sit in front of the cantina. the tiny round pen had never been dragged before and is almost worse than the arena footing, and that's saying a lot. the horses were constantly fighting. every single day i went, a horse had a new injury or cut on it. in front of the stalls behind the cross ties, there were extra pipes for making new stalls, which is extremely dangerous if a horse were to get loose. now let's get started on the feeding. first of all, the feeding cycle there was horrible. they got TWO flakes a day. yes, TWO. and if u wanted ONE more flake, you would have to pay extra. they never soak the food so they just feed the horses completely dry food. and if you are a logical equestrian, you would know that two flakes per day for a warm blood is now where near enough. the thoroughbreds are rib and skin, and their excuse is that thoroughbreds are "naturally skinny." while thoroughbreds are typically more slender than other breeds, that does not mean that they should be skinny. angel would feed the horses disgusting yellow hay, if at all. he frequently skipped the second feeding on many of the horses. the "trainers" there use abusive training methods towards the horse. there is a giant pile of horse manure where they would throw the horses stall mess in. the lesson saddles look like vintage, broken down saddles from the early 1900s. i don't think they had ever been cleaned before. they used lame horses with a terrible limp for lessons everyday, all day long. lesson after lesson these old horses were used in. the ranch is full of complete drama between adults. the adults there would talk smack about young lesson kids. they all had a foul mouth and said disgusting things constantly. almost every horse was on bute which is completely not normal. the cross ties are muddy and dirty, and full of old hay. the stalls are always muddy and sometimes even moldy. apparently, animal control has been coming to that barn for many years straight, but it just never gets shut down. there are broken pipes everywhere and slabs of old wood sat on the ground for a long time. the roosters were kept in a TINY cage behind the lower arena as well. the obvious abuse of these animals is disgusting and should not be tolerated. please, if you are a good equine owner, get your horses out of this barn if you are there now. and if you plan on moving there, forget about it. read more

I have taken two lessons here with Jody and am very pleased with her patience and training. I am a 60+ active adult who is preparing for a wilderness horse packing trip this summer. I rode a lot as a kid, but never learned how to saddle or bridle my own horse. Jody is not like a hovering parent; she let you figure things out and corrects you if necessary. The trainer Jody is magnificent she cares for all of us and watches out for horses to make sure no strangers enter Without permission. I have been riding off and on at this ranch for over 10 years and recently started my daughter riding. The owner and instructor Jody has been amazing! I can't believe how far my daughter has come in less than 2 years. From barely being able to ride she is now jumping and competing in shows. I completely trust Jody and always know my daughter is safe and in a great environment. I highly recommend this ranch to anyone who wants to have a great riding experience. I love everything about Stoney Point. I started there about 3 years ago as a western rider wanting to learn english and wanting to jump. After about 5 lessons, I was already jumping ! I have now competed in various circuits including IEl, Tri- Valleys, and Legis hunter/ jumper shows. I could not have done this without the help and support that Jody has supplied. Overall, she is a great trainer that helps you meet you goals. Whether it is to get on a horse, or start jumping she can help with anything. Also, I have previously boarded a horse of my own here in one of the barn's many box stalls. They were well kept every day, just as all the stalls are.
