Went in there for the first time with my fiancé to grab her something to drink. We spent a solid 15-20 minutes in there because we've never been. She decided to change what drinks she decided to get(cayman tall boy) into a case of Blake's cider. After we purchased our items, one of the guys from the opposite side of the store tried to claim that she stole a TWISTED TEA when she HAS NO POCKETS ON HER PANTS. Go check your cameras. Everything I could ever want in a local liquor store! Disclaimer, I love wine but get it from other sources. They have enough selection to get wine if you're not looking for a large amount of options, as this store uses most of it's limited square footage on beer selection galore! The liquor options aren't too bad either, but I have pretty much been able to find every coveted beer that is feasibly found at a local liquor store... Even if it's slightly uncommon like pseudo Sue, zombie dust, jai alai, etc. A phenomenal wall of bombers that i have not explored much because I was depleting a cellar of meet i had built up. They carry you're normal cases of beer, local selections and more. At the holidays they have some special variety packs that make great gifts! Service has always been friendly and I always remember walking out of the store feeling I had a friendly conversation or got some good recommendations. Don't just speed past this east side gem! I recently stopped in Stoney's Liquor for the first time on a Sunday afternoon/early evening. It's an older relatively small building, but that's what I like. It's not a chain with a brand new building with warehouse-height ceilings. A large selection is a bit crammed into the space, but it's easy to navigate. I immediately found the items I wanted when I veered to the left down a short aisle and went straight to the beer cooler. There was also a small cooler near the register that held tall boys of certain beers/malt liquor and, if memory serves, bottles of water and pop. The shop wasn't crowded and we reached the counter right away. I'm not sure if the man who waited on us was the owner or not, but he was pleasant and answered my questions about their hours, though the hours immediately left my head and I can't remember them at all. The prices are a few bucks higher than what you pay at Kroger and such, but it seems mostly worth the extra cost to be able to quickly run in and out with what you want and avoid large crowds. Nothing fancy, dimly lit, and a comfortable cool temperature. No rough elements hanging about like some of the liquor stores just to the West on 10th Street. A nice little place that is one of the only things I like about the area in it's current state. Plenty of parking in the lot. Conveniently located near 10th and Emerson. read more

When my partner suggested visiting Stoney's Liquor for craft beer and mentioned its geographical location, I was like "Where? How?" and had low expectations. Shame on me for stereotyping, as Stoney's is an east-side craft beer haven, a true local gem for beer aficionados. I found many unique breweries and styles that I have not found elsewhere, such a rye bread gose from Urban Artifact's limited Epicurean line of beers and Prairie Artisan Lil' Nap blackberry-lime sour. Stoney's is small and the aisles are a bit cramped, but don't be turned off by the size; the search for unique beers will override the mild claustrophobia. There are a few shelves of discounted, "last chance" beers to check out, if you are looking for cost savings. Service was average friendly and the staff were familiar with regular customers. My only suggestion for improvement would to allow more "create-your-own" pack opportunities, so that customers can try as many unique beers as possible (instead of committing to a 4/6-pack). read more

The thing that makes Stoney's special is the cramped, poorly lit room. It sounds bad, but trust me, it's why you'll come back. See, when you go to a place like Kahn's on Keystone, everything is clean and bright and there's plenty of room to walk and browse, and you'll find nice things, of course, but why wouldn't you find nice things? It's a nice place with nice things and it's just meeting your expectations sans excitement or dramatic flair. There is no adventure. Every time I walk into Stoney's, I look to Rose and nod, then embark on a quest deep into a magical booze dungeon, where mystery and intrigue and exotic liquors lay around every corner. There is no space. The lighting only marginally exists, dim and blocked by towers of hooch screeching toward the sky. If even one more patron comes, you know the store may burst. Yet somehow... somewhere... buried deep in this dungeon.... are some of the most obscure Trapist ales I've ever come across. And I'm always finding new things, and having my expectations based on the exterior and interior BLOWN AWAY by the actual content of the store. In my three years in Irvington, Stoney's has never been any less than an adventure. So eat across the street at the Steer In and grab a night cap here. Tell Rose I said hi! read more

This is a little beer/liquor/wine shop on Indy's eastside near the Little Flower and Emerson Heights area. It Isn't a very big shop, but the shove as much product in there as they can. This store covers the thinks I love (craft beer, a good selection of the local brewer's like Sun King, Brugge, etc. and a respectable selection of Scotch) and the the other stuff other people love (cheap, fizzy, yellow swill). :) Prices aren't bad, considering since you are supporting a local business, you might tend to pay a higher price on some products. However, isn't it worth it to support your locals? I think so. Small parking lot, gets busy on Friday's and Saturday's, and the staff is always very pleasant. read more

My year as an Irvingtonite introduced me to Stoney's, and if you're into craft beer and on the Eastside, this is your go to liquor store. Need something, they'll get it for you. Some beers we've bought: Zombie Dust, Saucy Intruder, Ballast Point, and a lot of local Indiana brews. Wine selection is not amazing but I've always found something. It's a tiny small town liquor store feel with great beer and that's pretty much it in a nutshell. Simple, and there ain't nothin' wrong with that. read more

5 stars for beer and liquor, 3 and a half for wine. I think they maybe have two Pinot Noirs that come from Oregon vineyards in the entire store. I'm not a big enough wine snob to know if it's true, but my wife insists the only Pinot Noir worth drinking is one from Oregon or Washington. So I wish they had a slightly broader wine selection. Their beer selection is excellent. I mean seriously very good. Whatever craft brew you dig, they've probably got it, both from Indiana and all around the nation. I hesitate to give 5 stars only because the selection, while GREAT, isn't the best in town. That said, as a craft and swill beer fan (I will spare accusing people of having non-discriminating, uber-nerdy tastes, that cost), I always find something great to drink at Stoney's. They don't keep old stock around, which is a problem at my other favorite spot up on 52nd and Evanston (see A-1 Liquors review). Rose is great.. such an eccentric lady, but never annoying in the least. Very cool manner about her and she points out specials and I call her "Rose." I like to support this business, without a doubt. It's local, small, and good. The fellow that works in there knows his beer for sure, but is quieter. He's good. Go to Stoney's if you like craft beer and haven't been. It's worth a trip, they stock everything from some Belgians (incl. a few Saisons, Gueuze(s), Orval, some lesser known stuff. Stone, Rogue, New Albinian, Bell's, FOUNDERS (my favorite brewery - get any of their beers, today!), many, many others. Wine selection is fine as far as I know, I don't drink wine.. but there's a pretty decent selection of varying prices, it seems. Doesn't seem quite as strong on wine as beer and liquor. I don't care. Liquor selection has never been a problem, and I do drink a fair amount of bourbon. read more

The East Side destination for carry-out craft beer! The local wares are in a cooler on the North side of the store, with a bit more on the opposite shelf. Decent selection of some area staples. Where Stoney's really shines, though, is in its selection of imports extending along the South wall. I always enjoy chatting with the staff, and discovered that if they're out of whatever you were seeking, they are willing to give you a call when it's back in stock. read more

It has shocked and amazed friends from Chicago. They have everything you could possibly think of looking for, plus a lot you don't even know to look for. I make it a point to grab something new every time I am there. The second best thing about Stoney's is their friendly staff. It is smaller quarters inside this neighborhood jewel, but you soon see the reason is to make as many unique beers available to us as possible. They have any kind you could ever want, and will order it (if they can) if they don't. Nine times out of ten Rose will be behind the counter ready to direct if you need help or recommendations. We live 2 minutes from here, and boy are we glad we do. It is nice to have access to this kind of variety for reasonable pricing. (i.e. 6 pk of oberon or 4 pk of Osiris=$9.99) We love this shop and don't care to shop elsewhere!! read more

Rose is a Racist. I stopped in because Stoney's was recommend by a friend. I picked up a 6 of Robert the Bruce and a random IPA. After Rose checked out the previous customer, she finished telling her story about her recent car accident. The customer leaves. She then rings me up and looks me in the eye and says, "My friend and I are in love with the same person." Me, "oh?" Rose, "It is America. My friend has fought his entire life to keep immigrants out of this country. His whole family has. His ancestors started by fighting the Spanish." Me, "That is quite a story." I pay and leave. So everyone is clear, I am of Spanish ancestry. It did not feel welcoming, and it ruined my evening. You may do whatever you wish, but I will be recommending that my friends not go to Stony's. Just ask yourself if you agree with this view and whether you are ok with turning a blind eye to bad behavior. Too bad, they did have a good beer selection. read more

I love supporting Indy's local businesses, as I am a Hoosier. 2 years ago I moved from the south side to where I now live, which is approximately 2 blocks away from their location. I have been a customer of Stoney's for these past 2 years & have spent between $20.00 & $180.00 a month at their establishment. I agree w/ the reviewer who said that while you're in their store, Rose, & as one reviewer called him, "a guy," are both quite pleasant. Last week I found I needed a specialty wine & decided to call to be sure it was in stock to avoid a wasted trip. I pulled out my latest receipt to get their phone number only to find that unlike many other businesses, their phone number was not listed on the receipt. So, I thought, maybe they have a website, & obviously they do. I called the ONLY phone number posted here, which is (317) 359-0416. Rose answers & I quickly tell her what I am looking for & she said they usually do but wasn't sure if they had any. I asked her if she could check & she says that she is very busy & needs the phone line to run some credit card purchases so would I call back in a while. Sure, no problem. An hour later, I call again, she says she checked & no they don't but it is on order w/o saying when she expected it to arrive. So I ask & she says ""in about a week" & she suggests I contact Another liquor store which she names. I said I wasn't in that much of a hurry so I would/could wait because I like supporting our local businesses. So, I waited a bit over a week & call again. This time, "the guy" answers & I say Hello, my name is Barbara, how are you? Now, you tell me which response would have been quicker: Fine thanks, how can I help you? OR "Well, I am having trouble running credit cards for purchases because we only have 1 line allocated for that and You're on it!!" I say okay, well I called last week & spoke to a gal who said to call today to see if it is in.. I was so taken aback that I honestly don't remember if I told him the name of the wine I was looking for but either way he sighs & says "let me check" & I say thank you, then she gets on the line & says "it didn't come in" - I said "it didn't?" & she says No. I say, ok thanks. Not sure what I was thanking her for really - both of them being rude?? So, NOTE TO ROSE & THE GUY : IF the phone number (317) 359-0416 is Your ONLY phone line for running credit cards - I STRONGLY Suggest you change the number on your website to the number that is SAFE for Customers to call you to ask questions that you can answer while pretending you care about your business & your customers.
