After navigating all the construction and paying to park, worst experience in a shop. I went out of my way to check this place out and I can't believe the place is still in operation. Dude working there in the front stared at me when I walked in like he had never seen a human before. I go downstairs to check it out and realized I needed to ring the bell to get into the vault for any decent liquor. It wasn't just top shelf, it was basically everything but wine and mixers locked up. I rang the bell....waited. I rang the bell again.....waited. I finally go upstairs to get some help and he tells me he LOST the key to the vault. it's just a padlock on a chain and you lose the key and turn away business. I had been there waiting nearly 20 minutes and this now comes up. Ridiculous and I will never recommend anyone go here. read more

This was hands down the worst experience I have ever had at a liquor store. The woman at the front was on her phone and when I was looking rung the bell to be let into their whisky safe (I was looking to buy a bottle of scotch) no one responded. After 5 minutes, I went up and asked them if someone was going to let me look, and the response was that they could let me "grab what I wanted" but that they didn't have time to let me look. Very disappointing experience. I had heard some really cool things about this place, and made the 1.5 hour drive from Louisville just to check it out. I'm in the spirits Industry and have been to hundreds of liquor stores, but this is the bottom of the line. My advice, go anywhere else but this place. read more

Horrible place to go there is black mold all over the store. They dont actually pay you for what you worked if you work over 40 hours they bring it back down to 40 so they are stealing your money. They DONT CARE about the safety of their staff (thats why the manager Tylar Brock fired me). The manager of the store steals money from out safes and doesnt ever replace it and he steals bottles from other stores when bottles at our store gets stolen. I wouldnt work here or shop here everything they do is illegal. read more

We stopped looking for a hard to find bourbon. They said they carry what we were looking for but they were currently out. So we looked around - bourbons are found all the way to the back & down the stairs in an old bank vault. I found a bourbon that I haven't had for some time so I bought a bottle. What a fun unique place, bourbon and wine in the basement, bourbon in a bank vault. You have to go down metal spiral staircase to marble steps to get downstairs. Your mind wonders what could have been in the vault before it was filled with bourbon. Bourbon selection is very respectable, with some Indiana whiskey/bourbons to choose from. Clerk was very friendly, he said to me " You don't look super happy after returning from the vault". I told him "I was hoping to find a dusty bottle of pappy down there". He laughed and said "yeah, I don't think that's going to happen today". I purchased a Hoosier whiskey, "just whiskey" by the Indiana whiskey company, it has oats in the mash build, it's different and very enjoyable. read more

I placed a Door Dash order for delivery and a staff member completed the order as delivered. I never received it and the prompt was given to me more than 2 hours after the initial order was placed. When I attempted to call (various times), the line was busy and was never able to speak with someone on the phone. Horrible service. Update: ~ 5 minutes after leaving my review mentioned-above, I get a confirmation that Rob was on his way. Rob showed up within 15 minutes and handed me my order. Apparently, Friday's are swamped from 3:30-7pm. I've updated my review to reflect my experience. read more

Beware! The inventory here is old and some has turned...but you will not know until you reach your destination and try to enjoy your purchase. Ugh, that is the worst! I was in town for a stressful biz trip, trapped in a car with my boss. I was able to pop in briefly to this store and get bottle of bubbly after a meeting across the street...when I arrived at my hotel room, the bottle could barely be opened...the cork was not right...upon finally opening it with much ado, I found the product was bad. Grrr! I was really looking forward to sipping a glass on the balcony and relaxing in my room. Ruined. There was no way to get back out for more as I was without transportation. The next day, I called to see about a credit or refund due to the spoiled bottle. That turned out to be fruitless, much to my amazement. No luck at all, it was horrible! Terrible customer service. Basically, I was told I had to bring the bottle back to them....it was like I was trying to hustle them. Now mind you, this bottle was only $10. How am I supposed to ask my boss to take me and an opened bottle of booze back to the store downtown? Also, driving with a container of alcohol is illegal where I live in KY...not sure of Indiana but just sayin', it is not cool at any time with one's boss. I tried to reason with the store manager Art, he was like "no way". Really? I also spoke to a corporate guy, John, he shut me down as well. Over 10 bucks? You can't extend a credit for next time I am in town??? Terrible service! Bad booze! It is the principle of it all, why is the burden on me, the customer? Why is your selection so old? What is your obligation to the customer anyway? The wines there are not even stored properly and over the years I have noticed the selection has diminished. It's not what it used to be. We decided to use our newly given privilege to partake in carry out alcohol sales in Indiana by going to Big Red Liquors! Everyone there was extremely friendly. The wine and spirits were labeled in a way that made everything easy to locate what you were looking for. The one cashier told us how they do wine tastings on Fridays! I found Big Red on Yelp during a stay in Indy a couple weeks back. Conveniently located in the heart of downtown, and right across the street from our hotel, Big Red was the perfect place to stock up on beverages for the room. This place is your typical old school, mom and pop liquor store. While prices are a couple bucks higher than your average big box store, you just have to expect that. Plus you're #supportinglocal. They've got a large selection of all types of beer, wine, and liquor. And that staff was welcoming and polite. They've got a huge valut in the basement, which was cool and worth a visit, if just for that. If you find yourself in downtown Indy and in need of booze, check this place out. read more

This is my go-to liquor store. Perfect walking distance from most downtown hotels and apartments. Staff is friendly and helpful. Wine is located downstairs. Sometimes certain brands are kept behind the desk, so don't be a stranger! Ask. They also offer tastings throughout the week from many different liquor and wine reps. Tip: check out the big tub of cold water! 3-5 min in it and your beer is ice cold... once you try it, you won't go back to waiting for your beer to cool down! read more

This was my first time to this new location of Big Red liquors. I came for a Yelp event and am glad that I now about this great place. They have a large selection of beer, liquor, wine and mixers. The basement area, where the event was held, holds a couple unique hidden gems. They have a bank vault that opens up into an additional space holding reserve wines. They also have an area to hold events right outside the bank vault that looks like a old school bar area. The staff were very helpful and informative. They also have a customer program available where you can earn points to go down with them when they go to purchase their private label bourbon. They also have some different weekly events that they hold at the store. They hold a selection of both local and common named brands. If they don't have what you are looking for, be sure to ask one of the employees and they will work with you. read more

Found this place on Google Maps and saw it had some pretty decent reviews on Yelp. Also it was the only place I could find downtown and it was open, so there you have it. Despite being one of the only options this place was a surprising gem! Darn good selection of whiskeys, beers and wines at pretty reasonable prices. Also very friendly and helpful staff. Finally, the two coolest things about this place: (1) downstairs there is an old bank vault that has been converted into a wine cellar - very unique and interesting, definitely worth checking out even if you're not buying wine, and (2) also downstairs there is a bar where you can try FREE samples of a number of high end (and mid-level) liquors and wines. I tried a sample of WhistlePig Rye ($80/bottle) and Journeyman Silver Cross ($60/bottle) both excellent and hard to find whiskeys. Not too many places that I know of will let you try whiskeys like that for free. All in all, great place and definitely well worth a visit when you're in Indy! read more

Very expensive. If you are liquor price conscious, you will do much better at Crown or 21st Amendment. In the Broad Ripple area, go to SoBro Liquors for everything...their prices as a whole are less expensive and usually less than full retail mark up. A ridiculous example of high prices at Big Red: Crown 1.75L. Crown Liquors: $39.96...EVERY day. 21st Amendment, $41-42.97 Every day. Big Red: $59.99. Ridiculous. A friend just bought a bottle of Dreaming Tree Crush and I'm looking at the receipt: $16.99. This wine is regularly $11-13 at almost every other liquor store/dept. Usually cheaper from CVS. See for yourself. What's interesting is that I have pointed out the price differences for the Crown three times at three different Big Red stores and the reaction was: "That must not be right...are you SURE about that price?" Yes, I am sure...why--don't you know? Maybe Big Red is doing something other than existing to draw people in and they clearly have a foothold in the market...but as a price conscious shopper...I can't figure out why. read more

Free delivery?!?!?? Before you venture out for a b double e double r u n, you might wanna call and ask an associate for details. This is one of two full liquor stores you can hit up while staying in downtown Indy. They have a pretty good cold beer and cider selection. Expect to pay about $1 to $2 bucks more per item here which should be expected in the city. If you like fancy ass alcohol, there's a downstairs which probably has all the wine and cognac and shit. I've never made it down there but I'm guessing that's what's there. I'm always scared I'm gonna fall down those steps, man. At the time of my last visit, they had an instant chill station where you can place your beer in a whirlpool that'll chill it in about three minutes. It's free and pretty cool looking. I stuck my hand in there just to see how cold it was before looking up to see the sign that clearly says DO NOT PUT HANDS IN CHILLER. Anyway, it's a downtown liquor store with a good selection which sells for a bit of a premium. If you see St. Bernardus, tell him I said hello. read more

Placed a $60 beer order for delivery. They sent multiple packs of dipas that were over 6 months old. Called the manager to complain and he said they just them in from distro this week and they tasted fine. I cracked one for a live taste and it was beyond faded. No refund or replacement. I love the history of this building. The wine is in the basement and still has the old bank safe. I was surprised by the cheap pricing. They carry my favorite wine. Big sweet red. I highly recommend it. They have a chilling cooler they chills wine in 6 minutes. It was still cold when we got back to our hotel after a ten minute walk in 90 degrees.
