This place is so dam expensive for no reason. This is a neighborhood of working class people and the amount they charge for everything is higher than every place else I go. But atleast the store is clean right? Wrong! The bathroom is disgusting! Pallets blocking aisles, open food in the aisles and the carts. I went in Stop & Shop tonight: 801 Newark Avenue ELIZABETH New Jersey 07208 to buy some sausage. I got to the register and I kept smelling this sour smell. I picked up the sausage and it was rotten are spoiled. I had already paid for it. I had to find a manager to give me a refund and she couldn't stand the smell. I got know apologize for getting ready to go home and be sick for buying bad meat. This is bad business. The person who put this sausage out had to smell it, because I couldn't take the smell. Some of the employees in this store have Very Poor Customer Service Skills. They are rude, unprofessional and have a presenting demeanor as if they don't want to work. I appreciate good customer service and will travel outside of my way to be greeted with A Good Morning or pleasant demeanor. There is never anyone assigned to the Online Pick-Up Area and when you ask for assistance you're ignored or left standing there until someone is available, despite being provided the pick-Up time. I've decided to try other supermarkets and refrain from shopping at Stop & Shop. Good customer service goes a long way! read more

Not the cheapest place for groceries but this Stop & Shop will suffice when looking for last minute items. It's a fairly decent size and for the most part it looks clean and tidy. It can get extremely busy during the usual afternoon or weekend rush hour. Their pharmacy employees are the best and it's the main reason why I come here. The bakery usually has a good variety of cakes and they do taste pretty good. If you go during the day there's usually someone that can write a custom message on your cake. They also have plenty of custom cake options. In the last couple of years they've renovated their aisles and they even have a section that is gears towards specialty "healthy food" options. The kind of items you'd find at a Wegmans or Whole Foods. If you're in the area and need to get some groceries then I'd say give them a try. They also have a self checkout option! read more

Have the nerve to raise prices several times on the same items Bakery cakes are mediocre and expensive.I'm going to Walmart for most of the stuff I buy from now on. I give this place 4 stars because I've never had an issue shopping hear .. Never have a issue parking because the parking lot is huge . I normally do self checkout which they have an I never have any issues either . I have been threw the regular line as well an no issues their either . I am a Shoprite shopper so I can say that this place is a little more Expensive but not saying their stuff isn't good just in my opinion pricier! I still ship hear sometimes for their baked goods as well as their selection of flowers to . I would recommend this place to a friend! read more

This shop is close to where I work and is better than the grocery stores in Jersey City. It's large with big aisles and always clean. And doesn't seem like it was built the same year I was born - looks pretty new to me. It has a huge organic/health food section - and decent selection of organic meats. They also seem to have more selection AND sales than other stores - just make sure to get a store card so you can reap all the benefits. read more

This is probably the worst Stop &Shop Store in the union. Customer Service department is a total mess. One Staff member to do all the duties is Stupid. I spend 1 hour and more in a line to buy a lottery ticket. Customers complain all the time for the long waiting. There are mountain of products getting bad on the customer service counter department ALL THE TIME. All because Western Union service is most of the people in line. There should be another staff member. I complained today for the long wait (August 1 2019 at 7:00 pm) and the lady told me that If I don't like the way the store works go to another place. I go to this store because It's the closest to my house. And at times I feel lucky playing lotto there. Awful customer service. They act and speak very rude. I believe my opinion concurs with that of the majority of people in my community. Corporate should do something about it. For the benefit of our community and for the Corporation. read more

Stop and Shops are supposed to be top notch... unfortunately this one is not!! I only come here when I absolutely have to, meaning I need a specific item right now and everything else is close... since it's 2 minutes away... I have ended up returning food because it's out of code or meats that once opened, I noticed they were rotten.. my latest escape- went in to get ONE money order for $800 dollars and the rep gave me TWO totaling up to that amount. When I told him I can't use it like this and I would rather them cancel it... and that I wish he would have told me first this is how- all of a sudden- you provide money orders, he answered No, because this is how they do it now and I would have to call western union get my money back?!?.. how ridiculous???? When I asked to speak to the general manager on duty at that moment, she came, at first, with a "we did everything right" attitude and told me that at the end of the day they gave me the right amount of money and that's all that counts??? When I did not accept that and explained they actually did do my transaction wrong and did not give me what I asked for/expected, she hesitantly apologized and told me to speak to the cash manager the next day to try and fix it.... I needed the money order THAT DAY! Money orders can be given up to $1000. I have bought $800 money orders from this Stop and Shop before even though this manager was adamant, that I must be mistaken, because in her 20 years there it has Never been done like that before?....... I have copies and receipts, btw.. It was just an overall horrible display of leadership which is no wonder why the rest of the staff isn't properly trained. It was not only inconvenient but harmful for me not to have been able to get that money order that particular day... western union does not stand by or impose that policy. Stop and Shop just instituted that policy so they can charge double or triple for a money orders. Just shameful! read more

Is the reason the deli workers wear gloves to protect them from catching something when they handle your cold cuts? they very seldom change them. They do the same things as if they were not wearing them at all. A real turn off. I was there today and I was thrilled when the worker behind the counter changed his gloves every time he waited on another customer. Ok location. The staff doesn't seem very organized, though. And sometimes the shopping carts end up all on one side so, if you go through the other entrance, you can't get one. Shopping carts also get left out in the middle of the parking lot at times so you have to navigate around them. Also, a couple of their self-checkouts are temperamental. But otherwise the store is well laid-out and the aisles aren't too tight. It's not usually terribly crowded, at least not as much as some other grocery stores in the area. I would say, however, that the staff is not the most professional group. They'll yell across the registers to one another or to call a manager over instead of walking over to get them. Plus they'll talk to each other at nearby registers about their personal lives while checking out customers, which I don't think is appropriate. There are a couple of very nice cashiers with great, friendly attitudes, and it's nice when they have people bagging for you. read more

This is my second time buying meat at the stop and shop In Elizabeth NJ and it has been spoil. The first time was about 6months ago I bought two packs of chicken an di was getting ready to cook and I smelled a very bad odor so I sniffed the chicken and it was totally spoiled but it didn't look spoil at all it was still pink, Now I bought some lamb and opened the packages and both of them are also rotten but they look fresh. And both times the manager just said sorry and that he would give me gift card.I believe that they are coloring the meats so that they look fresh, please don't buy any meat from stop and shop they obviously don't believe in freshness. this grocery store is conveniently one block away from my house but i travel 20-25 mins to other stores because i find the quality of this place shameful. there is no salad bar, their ready to eat salads are embarrassingly shameful, they seem to only have fried food and offer no healthy options, no organic options, no fresh products without msgs, no natural ready to eat meals. I think management should visit ShopRite on rt. 22 in springfield or Shoprite in Garwood so they can see what grocery store should provide and perhaps they will have my bussiness. read more

I moved to the neighborhood not so long ago, and Stop and Shop is the nearest supermarket to me. it looks very recently renovated, it's bright, and the employees are helpful and friendly. Sometimes there are good deals. BUT there have been few times where the meat i bought was not good. I've never ever been in a position before where I felt helpless until tonight. After being stuck on a train for 4 hours and a dead phone i had to get off the train. I started to feel sick from being on there for so long. I walked to the nearest open store (you) and as soon as a saw a police office I started to cry because I had no money and no idea where I was. Then the late night manager came up to me and requested me an uber. I literally cannot thank this man enough. I'd like to pay him back but being overwhelmed I didn't catch his name. I live close to this stop and shop and its the only larger market close by. It's convenient for that reason but often there are only a couple cashiers ringing at peak hours. That leaves the self checkout which really sucks, most people can't figure them out and they take forever. The selection of food is not bad but certainly limited. If you plan on making anything slightly exotic save yourself the trouble and don't go here. You can grab the basics pretty easily but that's about it. 3 stars. read more

Dear,scary Elizabeth! My last trip to the east was one of the rare times I rented a car while in the NY / NJ area. I just happened upon this grocery store on a short errand from the hotel. It must be their version of a Food Lion or an Albertsons. There's something so institutional about these chains as though their existence depends on the basic level of ensuring there's a place where people can buy food. There's lots of parking if you're feeling brave enough to walk in the dark across the lot but most cars were huddled towards the entrance. The aisles are fairly clean and the food choices are decent. I like that they had a good choice of deli turkey cuts in pre-weighed sizes packaged that day. I managed to find a small bag of unusually large whole wheat flatbread and similarly pre-weighed and packaged cheeses from their deli so I walked out quite satisfied with myself. I managed to stock myself with sandwiches for that night and the entire next day for under $20. read more

One of the nicest staff of workers I,ve ever met. This is my new store! A great shopping experience! Fresh fish is the best I,ve seen in ANY supermarket. Deli staff was very friendly and eager to slice my cold cuts the way I asked. Actually showed me the slice before proceeding.......I really appreciated that. I asked a man in the meat dept where I could find peanut butter.....he stopped what he was doing and took me right to the spot it was located. I was happily shocked! Truly a 5 star store. read more
