I was recently in the area and bought fish from this stop and shop. That was a huge mistake. By the next morning, my refrigerator reeked and clearly the fish was bad. I called to report this and was told that they could do nothing about it because I live out of the area and couldn't physically come into the store. There was no solution offered to simply charge back my credit card, and even though I have a stop and shop card, they refused to do anything about it. I am really disappointed with this level of disservice as my local Stop & Shop always goes above and beyond. Be very wary of purchasing anything perishable in the store. read more

Poor customer service-- someone could have lost their life due to negligence. As of Wed 9/1 (In the midst of hurricane Ida) they told customers "they must leave" and "I don't know what to tell you.. wait it out outside" while NJ declared a state of emergency due to flooding, tornadoes, etc. NJ residents were advised to stay put- EVEN IF THEY ARE IN A STORE. Extremely negligent behavior; as previously mentioned, someone close to me could have lost their life due to the carelessness of the staff. People were being swept away on foot and in cars due to the strong winds and flooding, and these employees thought it was appropriate to almost literally kick customers away in this emergency. Absolutely disgusting behavior- I will never patronize this business. What were you thinking? read more

Let this Twitter post I just saw stand as an addendum to previous review, which continues to be dead-accurate (I stopped in there recently after I couldn't take the even-more-horrible Shoprite but didn't have time to drive to Wegmans or Trader Joe's.) Anyway: I'm stuck at the Watchung, NJ @StopandShop because of the hurricane.Roads aren't passable. The employees are staying over night but they kicked out 3 customers (I'm in my car) even though it's a national emergency and no one is supposed to be on the road. This is an update to my previous review. I've noticed a trend of many of my favorite items being out of stock with greater frequency. I understand this can happen from time to time but not on a regular basis. Also, I've had to check three cartons of eggs to find one without breakages. Finally, when you have 23 boxes of three cheese pizza and one buffalo chicken with an open box, you might want to manage your inventory ordering process better. read more

The only reason why I am compelled to shop at this location is because it is literally 10 minutes from my house. The worst part about shopping here is dealing with the two snooty women at the deli counter. They are always there, so I am assuming that they hog the hours from the other workers. One is always loud and rowdy (light skinned) never changes her gloves and moves from produce to the deli in no time flat. Like weren't you just yelling that you had to make the macaroni salad!!!! What are you doing with bananas in your hands? The other (new girl) is a paranoid PIA (glasses), Super Rude!!! There is one guy who works during the week; an older gentleman who is patient courteous and knows exactly what Customer Service means. We used to shop regularly but stopped due to rising prices and lackluster service. Went to this store April 3rd at 6 AM for the senior shopping hour during the covid19 outbreak because it of the early opening hour. Only the produce shelves were stocked and there was a employee stocking more stuff too. Other than that store was devoid of most everything. On top of that the prices were jacked through the roof. Self checkout was it's usual pita. $307.00 later was out the door. Never again, Shoprite is a better deal and has more stock. read more

This store is big, nice, and clean. The shelves were very well stocked, and customer service was fine. Aside from Westfield, this is the closest location from my area. The prices, for the most part, seem to be slightly higher than some of the other competitors, but that really depends on what you're trying to buy. I came here to buy some items that were on sale, and those prices were good. Once in a while I come here only if I need something at a good price, and recently that was yesterday. Nice Clean Store. The staff was always helpful and kind. The went out of the way to help this Disabled Veteran find and load his foods. The men and women at the deli helped me get my cold cuts and into my cart. They were always nice and happy even during the holidays. They even replied back: "Merry Christmas! Thanks for your service! This is the worst grocery store I have ever been to. Unfortunately it is less than a mile from my home so I end up here quite often out of convenience. If it were up to me I would never step through their doors ever again. Most poorly managed establishment IMO. I have had to return multiple times for refunds because half of my items were expired. During covid they couldn't have done a worse job handling crowds. They changed the check-out procedure so many times no one ever had a clue what was going on. The staff couldn't be more helpless. God forbid an employee moves 5 inches out of your way when stocking shelves. I have never left this place satisfied in 7 years of living across the highway. I wish there was an option for zero stars. If you're a manager that reads this, please don't reply, I don't need your obligatory corporate response. Spend that time working with your employees because your place sucks. read more

I've shopped at this store many times without a problem. Their prices are a bit higher than the local Shop-Rite but the selection is better. My problem is with the older black man at the cold cut counter last Saturday. He finished with the last customer, looked straight at me and walked away. He returned a few mins later and still ignored me. Finally after I called him, he asked me what I wanted. I asked him if he had a rare roast beef and he replied, snarkly, "All our roast beef is rare". I asked for the price and he did not reply. I had the impression that he didn't like white guys, or just didn't like his job. I won't shop there again knowing I got such poor service. read more

I've been coming to this location off and on for years as it is in the way home from work. In the past year I've moved closer to this store and have made it my primary because they have a good selection of grocery goods at decent prices. I've always been happy with this location until yesterday evening. I did my regular shopping and headed to the deli. The number machine wasn't printing but no biggie, there was only one person in front of me. Luckily the person in front of me was getting the same deli ham as I was. Unluckily, the deli worker helping the person in front of me was stepping away from the counter and turning it over to another worker to help me. The new worker had been gathering trash in the rest of the deli. As he pushed the cart of trash bags full of god knows what the side, he slides on gloves and asks me what I want. I asked if he was going to wash his hands as I had seen him elbow deep in trash 30 seconds prior. His response was "I just put on gloves, they're clean". Uhm...no. I told him I'm done, I couldn't order anything from him after hearing that. In today's environment, the absolute LEAST he should be doing is washing his hands. Unacceptable when you are working in food service. He's not dealing with prepackaged and sealed items but loose goods that will be ingested. Don't come here. Management sucks!!! there freezers leaks a lot of water and it smells like mildew because they catch the water with rugs. Most importantly I was sexually harassed in this store by another customer. When I informed management of what happened he offered to walked with me around the store to continue shopping excuse me I was just touched why would I want to continue to spend money here? I WANT THE POLICE CALLED NOW! Camera system isn't readily available to catch whomever it was.. I have to wait 3 days until someone comes and look at the camera system. This is completely unacceptable. I will NEVER EVER EVER SHOP AT A STOP & SHOP again! Today was the first time I dealt with the store's customer service and it is the last time I will shop there. I shopped here on a regular basis because the store is cleaner than the competitor stores in the area. Products are overpriced, but I was willing to spend a bit more to shop in a clean environment. I was returning a defective product today and got a really bad attitude from the customer service staff and the floor manager. They acted annoyed and rude. I wish this place was a Super ShopRite. The prices are too high. The layout of the store is sometimes confusing. I try to buy all my fruits and veggies and a few side items at Somerset Farms and buy only what I need here. Still, I walk out feeling ripped off. Although it's relatively close to me, which is helpful, I had to come to Yelp to vent my frustrations. While it's a nice big store, w/a decent selection, as SE pointed out, it seems a bit mismanaged and disorganized. The reason for the "1 Star Review" is because despite coming here for several years, they almost never have more than 3 or 4 lanes open...which forces customers to utilize their self-checkout lanes, which back-up because not enough regular lanes are open...if you've ever attempted self-checkout, even on their best days there's almost always a problem...whether it be mechanical or the customer...in the sense that these machines are confusing for the typical shopper, I think. That typed, most of the employees seem somewhat nice and helpful, although the younger ones seem to be goofing off at times. The Westfield NJ store, despite being smaller, is even worse in some respects. read more

It was better when it first opened but has declined. High prices, often cannot find better brands whereas their brand is in abundance. Got bad fish there once and won't buy it there anymore. Smells fishy ...bad sign. If u go later in the day they do not restock and aside from deli dept., staff unfriendly. The one in berkley hgjts is much better, but shoprite beats both in quality and prices. It's a convenience stop in a pinch but never my choice for a big order. read more
