I originally saw a nurse practitioner for my annual physical back in March 2024. We had recently relocated from California and I wanted to receive an annual physical. Annual physicals are included as preventive services under the Affordable Care Act meaning patients cannot be charged for an annual physical (see 42 USC 300gg-13 https://uscode.house.gov/view.xhtml?req=(title:42%20section:300gg-13%20edition:prelim)). The annual physical was a nondescript experience and I answered the questions the nurse practitioner asked me. Unfortunately, I became very sick in August 2024. After a few days I tried to see Dr. Fernandez and was eventually able to get in to see the nurse practitioner. The office tested me for influenza A&B, COVID, and strep which all came back negative. I told the doctor my son had experienced similar symptoms a few weeks earlier and eventually developed pneumonia. I went home with no medicine. Five more days passed and I was feeling no better and had developed a hacking cough which led me to strain my oblique. It was incredibly painful. I again called Dr. Fernandez's office and was able to get prednisone and a Z-pack prescribed to me but not a cough suppressant because they wanted me to be seen again in a couple of days. They also wanted to perform a chest x-ray which could not be done on site. Because I was feeling so terrible and was in so much pain I ended up going to receive Total Access Urgent Care. There I was able to receive an x-ray the same day which revealed I had pneumonia. They were able to provide me a shot which gave instant relief and a cough suppressant to help moving forward. This was done at a cost of $150 after insurance was provided. I informed Dr. Fernandez's office of this diagnosis and, to there credit, they were apologetic about the care I received and they stated they wished I had seen Dr. Fernandez for my annual physical instead of the nurse practitioner because we had no prior relationship. There appeared to be a lack of trust on the Dr. Fernandez's end in what I was saying because of the lack of relationship. However, if new patients are not provided the opportunity to meet the doctor I don't know how I could have handled this differently. Now to the part that has me incredibly frustrated. A few weeks back I received a bill for the August visit which I don't dispute. However, tacked on to the bill was a charge of roughly $200 for the annual physical in March. At no prior point had I received a bill for this service which made sense to me because the insurer has to cover the entire cost of preventive services which includes an annual physical. Unfortunately, Dr. Fernandez's office had coded the care incorrectly causing a dispute with my insurance company. Currently, her office is refusing to change the coding leaving my insurer unable to cover the full cost of the annual physical. I would highly recommend not seeing Dr. Fernandez as she likely won't be able to see you in person as a new patient, won't trust what you tell her as a patient when you are sick, and then try to screw you on billing. I could not be more disappointed in the services I received from this office.

She had a folder of all the information we were going to cover on services and pricing so I could focused in taking this all in. We took our time on the tour looking at each room and getting information on how to utilize under a spa pass, monthly membership or annual membership. There is a gym, a cafe, even an area to bring your laptop or books to have a quite space in a relaxing environment. Went here on Monday for a spa day and started off with an amazing massage from Bronson. This was then followed by a custom facial with Jody. My face was breaking out pretty bad prior to this facial and it has been soo much better since! After those services, I had lunch in their cafe, followed by the salt room, cryotherapy, sound focus and biomat. The sound focus was new and something I had never done before. I m still super curious about if it works or not! By the end of the day, I was super relaxed and ready to go back to work the next day! It was easy to set up an appointment and their location is convenient. I had only a 5-10 minute wait after I arrived. My doctor was professional, friendly, authoritative. I was accused of being non compliant with my stimulant medication by my provider (Nicole Carr). She…read moreprescribed me a stimulant medication and was drug testing me for amphetamine monthly. The only problem is I was not prescribed an amphetamine. She suddenly discontinued my medication and put it in my medical records I was non-compliant. I was then treated like a drug addict and criminal by a member of the front desk staff when I called to follow up. All Nicole had to do was google if Ritalin is an amphetamine. She had multiple opportunities to speak with me about my negative drug tests but chose to try and catch me in a "lie". At best this is human error, at worst this is plain negligence. If Nicole wasn't comfortable or familiar with prescribing ADHD medication, she shouldn't have taken me on a patient as I told her getting my ADHD treated was my main concern. I wasted a year of my life trying to get adequate treatment from Nicole Carr and she failed me. I now see Katie Padberg at Sunny Day Psychiatry who has been compassionate and never once made me feel like I was a druggie or "medication seeking" Stay away from Nicole Carr if you go here.
