Best decision ever! I can't believe I waited so long to go. Initially I thought it was expensive but the time I have saved styling my hair is priceless. Alternatively I have used the brazilian blow out which is so short lived and very damaging long term to my hair. Victoria was amazing. She was careful not to fry my hair, and walked me through the process so I felt very comfortable the whole time. The salon was hustling when I went in and I couldn't believe there weren't more reviews. My hair was very curly; being that I am Creole and Spanish. I was a little skeptical since I hadn't found reviews from people with similar hair, but once in the salon I saw 2 girls with very curly hair like me! Thats when I promised to post a before and after on here! Initially my hair was a little dry although she had trimmed me up. She gave me very specific care instructions which I followed precisely, no hair dye for 2 months or hair cuts. My hair was stick straight for a few weeks and the tips were a little dusty (mind you my hair has been bleached and processed countless times before). Getting ready now is soo so easy in the mornings, rolling out of bed and not looking like a train wreck was the absolute best. I just got my first hair cut after 3 months and it looks so healthy! The stick straight chilled out a bit and I constantly get compliments on how shiny my hair looks (first time hearing that). I can go a couple days without restyling my hair, I go swimming without fretting over my afro emerging, and the rain and humidity do not scare me anymore! One of my biggest concerns was what would happen when my natural hair started growing, especially since you have to wait at-least 6 months in between touch ups.I have about 1.5" of regrowth, but its pretty manageable, I just blow dry my part and hairline with a paddle brush and I'm out the door. read more

So I had come to Victoria many years ago probably 2008-2009 for straight perm, and although pricy my hair always looked great. The years after that I went elsewhere bc I moved but I made the big mistake of coming here earlier like end of March this year (bc I was out of town and needed to get roots done) for straight perm. I trusted she knew what she was doing but something went horribly wrong. She had a male assistant and a student also work on my hair with her but at one point she was busy with other customers, and I over heard the student had made a mistake about one of the products in my hair. I'm not sure if that was it, but basically they straightened all my hair even the bottom half (which already was straight from previous treatment) and they fried my hair! They should have assessed my hair first known it had been done months ago (because they did ask and I told them) and supervised what they were doing. It still hurts till this day I had beautiful hair. After I washed it I knew right away it was bad and frizzy and dead. I panicked and called the salon and Victoria said for to come in the following weekend and I did. She ended up chopping most of my hair off and giving me layers because the damage was so bad. And just gave me a free conditioner. Honestly, looking back I should have asked for a refund ($300) for ruining my hair! It's been horrible and I've cried about it. I've had to keep cutting my hair which I hate because I loved my long hair. And even then, some damage still remained so I've been using other products to revive and help my dead, sad hair. Even my regular stylist I go to said they should have just done the roots, they should never touch the bottom part already straightened. They messed up and I paid the consequence. Lesson learned I should have stuck to my regular salon, I would NEVER trust them again. read more

WORST BEAUTY SCHOOL EVER! Don't waste your time and money. I'm surprised that they're still in business. I called last Saturday and they said I could come in for a root touch-up. It took me 40 minutes to get there. When I walked in, I was told that they don't have any students at the moment. They didn't even apologize for wasting my time. I decided to come back today and give them another chance. The Asian lady with short hair was super rude and bossy. I told them that I wanted to go with a light brown color but she insisted on doing dark blonde instead. She started arguing with me and was also mean to the student who was just trying to help me. I don't color my hair but my coif can get quite unruly without obligatory blow drying after shower. Decided to try Japanese hair straightening aka tiki at the suggestion of a friend who had it done. Free parking in back. Whole process took about 3 hours and the damage was about $250. Clean establishment, common to have two people working on you at once to get the job faster. This was my 3rd time patronizing the facility, and the first two times were absolutely awesome. So it was absolutely appalled by my experience this time around. I arrived and told them I was there for a manicure. I had called before hand so I had expected that someone would have been available and ready. I had to pay which took a few minutes, and then she "called" the manicurist that seemingly walked in from the back parking lot which took another few minutes. I had been there for about 10 mins and had not been seated, and there was no one else there getting their nails done. Now typically, there are ALWAYS manicurists waiting around so I figured I would sit as soon as I got there, but NOPE. Now, I took off of work early thinking, ok the most this could take is like 30 minutes, MAYBE 45 minutes, and then I could go back to work. But NOPE, apparently that was hopeful thinking. When I asked MIMI PORTER at the front if it would take an hour, she made it seem like it would be less than. So I sat but I had a sinking feeling, I should have just passed on the service, especially as soon as I paid and I could tell it was going to be a minute just to get set up. I sit nonetheless because this weekend Im going out of town for my TWO YEAR ANNIVERSARY and I thought to myself, I need this and its shouldn't be that bad. WHAT A WASTE OF TIME! The girl doing my nails was nice enough, but it was TAKING FOR EFFING EVER for the nails to dry. After a while, I realized I was going to be back to work late, so I removed my hand from the dryer to text. I did that twice. The nice young girl doing my nails was nice enough but I was getting more and more anxious as I still had to grab lunch and travel back to work. She noticed that the machine was not working because my nails weren't drying, she went to the back, and when she returned she stated that machine WASN'T working. WTH?!!? WHY ARE STUDENTS GIVEN SUB-PAR TOOLS AND EXPECTED TO DAMN GOOD JOB? That isn't fair to the student, and the person they are practicing on. She returns with her own machine, which I am sure actually worked, and at that point, I had to leave to return to work. The job was NOT done, as the nails had NOT dried but I had to leave, regardless of the fact that I had already paid. As I was leaving, I told her that I would call and ask for a refund. About an hour later, I decide to call and ask for a refund. MIMI PORTER answered, and she, before I could even explain the main issue, she was talking over me and she said that I kept removing my hands from the dryer so that is why my nails were not dry and that the job WAS done. I had to leave to get to MY job, that doesn't mean that the job WAS done. She wasn't supervising the job, so how in the heck can she surmise anything. THE MACHINE WAS BROKEN, yet it was MY fault that my nails weren't drying. WHO TALKS LIKE THAT TO CUSTOMERS? People with no training. So I made a point: your school is designed for people to help other people, that is what the training is based on. She said: I Understand. NO. YOU. DONT. She was adamant about not returning my money and that the job was done and that if I don't like, it then tough. I asked her if the owner was there, of course she was not. Then I asked if I was going to have to talk to the owner instead of her, and she said yes. WOW. I requested when the owner would be in, and I told her real fast, don't say that you don't know, she spat back, don't try to read my mind. WOW. I wasn't rude, I was very up front, and my tone was neutral. But this lady wasn't feeling me from the jump, and it's not like I know her personally. Please, save your money on the cheap stuff, and pay more money for a)better service in a timely manner and b) where you feel comfortable and relaxed, and c) where the staff won't give you a damn attitude problem, without any resolution to the true issue. I AM SO UPSET that during my anniversary, my nails look FREAKING HIDEOUS, and that I have to spend some of my anniversary weekend at a damn nail shop to a) fix my nails, and b) to FREAKING RELAX. I called my boyfriend IN TEARS because my nails look so ugly, and it made me feel ugly. I go to the nail shop to feel pretty and nice, not so that I walk out upset and unsatisfied about the job. And the thing that makes me the most upset, is that MIMI PORTER, seemingly is another Latina, and she is acting that way with me because I am also Latina. If I were Asian, or White, would she have acted the same way? I highly doubt that. And if I were a man (gay or straight), would she have denied me the refund? Probably not. Thank you MIMI PORTER for giving me the proverbial EFF YOU, and allowing for this to be such a crappy experience. You did nothing during the problem to fix the problem, and you did nothing after the problem to fix the problem, you simply blamed me for the problem. Some people say it's harder to find a good stylist than it is to find a boyfriend. And, if you've met me, you might know that I have quite the discerning nature when it comes to personal style AND gentlemen suitors. This is my favorite spot to get my hair cut and styled, and when I mean my spot, I mean this is THE LOUIS VUITTON DON - Helen is my stylist of choice; accept no imitations. My only fear is that the secret will get out and I won't be able to get an appointment when the time comes. She, unlike other stylists, does NOT get all cutting-happy and butcher your tresses six inches when you asked to cut off one or two. She advises you regarding what you're asking for, how it will look on your type of hair, and also consults you on what the maintenance would entail for the style that you're requesting. In other words, she'll tell you what it is you're really getting into with the style, not just push the upselling for the salon. Helen is the only stylist in Los Angeles whom I trust with my hair. Hell, she's the only stylist in the country I can depend on; I get consistent professional cuts and styles at a salon where I don't get ripped off. If I had the means, I'd fly her every couple months out to wherever I am traveling so I can get my hair cut and styled. I've gotten my hair straight permed (or 'magic straight,' as the process is called), in 3 different salons in Los Angeles (Kim Sun Young, an old mom-and-pop shop on Olympic, and at Straight Perm.Com - apparently the third one for me, was, in fact, the charm). I've been to salons in BH where there have been specials, yet I ended up paying a whole lot more moolah; old mom-and-pop type of hair salons in Ktown where the old lady ended up using super cheap products on my hair. I've gone to Helen to do some damage control after getting botched services done at the other salons. I've even been to the Hair Cuttery/SuperCuts types of joints where sloppy haircuts have transpired, to the informal underground spots in Philly where the haircuts were in a makeshift salon in a basement and the clientele and styles were a bit, let's say, culturally influenced. I hate it when stylists take their own liberties, regardless of what you wanted done with YOUR hair. Ya know? Anyway, I've learned my lesson. I waited for a week to write this review as I wanna see how my hair goes after washing it for a few times. I can tell you now my hair is dry and hard even if I put on some leave-in conditioner. My hair has never been this damaged before. Because of all these positive reviews on yelp, I was convinced to do my first perm in California. I had another straight perm a year ago, but the new wavy hair grew back, and my hair was half and half (half natural half straightened) I got a straight perm for $250 last week, and I never should have done that. Victoria told me she will do "5 times for the natural hair", and "2-3 times for the straightened part" to make the two parts match better. I didn't quite understand what she means, but I trusted her because she seemed professional. After 3 hours, I walked out of the shop is dissatisfaction. I didn't need a first wash to tell my hair is damaged. The bottom part is slightly fried. The upper part is ok, but after 2 washes, I found out the newly permed part is even more curly than those at the bottom, not to mentioned how dry as frizzy my hair looks. My boyfriend, my best fd, my roommates all said the same thing when they see my hair..."your hair is so dry!" I didn't leave a one star because I think Victoria is nice to me (not to my hair). The straight perm might fit someone who has never done a straight perm before, and are looking for sth "not too straight". I came in on a Saturday morning for a consulation/hair color. I met Helen and off the bat, I knew I could trust this girl. I told her what kind of color I wanted but she told me she will only do what she thinks is best for my hair.. not what I want. Some people might take offense, but overall, she is 100% right and is looking out for your hair. I told her to just work her magic and left my hair up to her. My hair was previously bleached and dyed back to brown about 3 times. My hair was a complete mess and I wanted to go lighter again. But somehow, she magically fixed this hair of bad into a gorgeous light brown with highlighted hairdo. On top of that, I told her I am deathly afraid of hair cuts but she couldn't stand my nappy split-end infested hair and just snipped parts and layered it to make it look more presentable. So ive been coming to Victoria for years and as a matter of fact my photo is her main picture on yelp and Instagram. However, after coming to Victoria for so long i have lost so much hair. Shes constantly perming or upselling you on some new straightening technique. The problem being this causes your hair to fall out! So then i started getting extensions from her a 500.00ish each!! Id also have my dye done so i'd walk out at about close to 700.00 each time. This last time i went my weft started falling out within the first week. I went back the next week to get it fixed (she discounted the blow dry) and all she did was a demonstration for her class on extensions (the top two wefts) when i left i quickly realized i wasnt even fully blown dry. My hair was a mess!!! And i was due to go into labor the next day(that night). Her excuse was that it was a lot of work and she had her students there that day. As i left i became even more angry with her, how could you mislead me into thinking that you had done the job? Also i went into labor that night with messed up hair! They have a revolutionary technique to attach the extension that is virtually damage free on your hair. I know it is hard to believe, but I swear it is true. Another great thing is the price, very reasonable indeed, and the quality of the extension they give you is premium. After a month of calling Victoria and asking her questions about the product if it was good for my hair i have naturally curly hair and i'm african american, and she said that she specialize in african american hair and that she would do my hair and put it in and have her students just assist her nothing was further from the truth! she colored my hair as it was natural and put the straight perm in 2times and i said are you can do this 2 times and color she said i've been doing this for 30yrs don't worry meanwhile she has a student do it who had been there less that a month was just as confused and she wouldn't let the Asian student who was more experienced do and she wanted to do it! after it was done i called and said my hair is coming out alot she said that was normal shedding and i said it looks so dull and dry i tried everything she suggested and it didn't work i went back to her 2 times to do a treatment which was the same shampoo and conditioner she used the first time and each time i came she wouldn't touch my hair and she would always take the caucasian or asian customer who would come in after me with no appt ant do there hair and never mine and she treated the mexican young lady horribly who was her student would give the class info in her language only and that student was fallen behind because of it and she mention that she complained about it but she didn't do anything about as of yet! and when i went back this last she told me to come in i came in from las vegas and she refused to do my because i complained about my hair fallen due to her straight perm and asked her to please let's try and fix it. and she refused because i called to her let her know that my hair was falling out constantly and i had spent $1000 on products and nothing was stopping the breakage! she treated me in a very racist manner and as if she was in her country where she can get away with not being accountable for action and her work she so proudly stand bye! but she's a liar and racist and i have receipts Victoria! read more

Magic Straight Japanese Straight I was afraid to have anyone touch my virgin hair and it was with my better judgment to pay a little more for the no cut corning, no hold on solutions and meticulous job they did on my now beautiful straight hair. Salons usually end up over processing with solution before the straight to save money. These people processed, washed out to see if my hair was ready then processed again (full head of solution) for just a few more minutes. Appreciated! Again its a little more expensive by $50-$75 but considering it is your hair you wear until it grows out please do yourself a favor without having to tear your hair out... check this place out, get an evaluation, shop around but get it done here. Also, last time I went they gave me a discount for paying in cash.... so you might want to ask about that (but do it on the quiet side). My hair is about shoulder length... CRAZY CURLY, grows ridiculously fast.... and I go about every 3 months (trust me that last month of curl is painful) and it costs me about $270 each time (w/ the cash discount). I give this place two thumbs up. Its been almost 10 months since I straightened my hair and true to their word -- and more -- my hair has been tangle free, wave free and duck tail free for the past ten months and still is holding out perfectly! I finally chose this place after mulling the idea and reading review after review. For some reason I called them -- guess cos they specialized in straight perming compared to other places which did styling and other hair care treatments. It was kind of an impulsive move on a work night and very much at the last minute since I had an unexpected opening in my schedule -- sure enough they were gracious enough to accommodate me at 4pm -- half an hour before I called -- and spent about 2.5 hours - 3 hours on my hair. my hair was basted, aluminum foil wrapped and my head was halo-ed under two moving eclipse bars, that gently played baby-mobile music as it gracefully danced around my head. No heat, nothing harsh-- just a ping-pingy sound of what reminded me of a fairyland ice cream truck wafting it's child like music above my head. So Japanese :) My East Coast hair which had been shocked and hardened by the West Coast water, since I moved to LA -- now feels silky soft and looks back to it's licorice black color -- the straightening process has strangely moisturized and reconditioned my hair to feel and look much healthier than in it's natural state subjected to LA water. Do you ever have a day when you are just driving, you see a hair dresser and you just feel like going in and getting a cut? Well, I had one such day one day. I got assigned to a male hair stylist who took almost an hour to cut my long hair... seriously, an hour!!! just for the cutting!!! (and all I wanted was a simple hair cut- nothing crazy or elaborate) and charged me $60 dollars. While he cut my hair, he kept saying how he was educated at some salon in Beverly Hills and how I would have to shell out $100 to get the same cut if I were in Beverly Hills. Woohoo! This place is as good as it gets, at least when it comes to my hair. I got a Japanese straight perm done on Saturday and it is now Tuesday. Althought my hair is not stick straight - it has a slight wave to it - it is as smooth as can be, it feels super silky, and it is not frizzy at all, all of which were my hair goals. My hair is shoulder length and it is naturally wavy/frizzy. As soon as I start to sweat I look like the lion king. Ain't nobody got time to be straightening their hair in this California heat. just one word... AMAZING ! I had my hair done yesterday and they are shiny, beautiful and most importantly... STRAIGHT !!
