Ace has AWESOME customer service! I was there just today, walk in, someone greets me, takes me to exactly the 2 items I need and I'm out the door in 5 mins or less! 2 weeks ago I needed some replacement screws, nuts and bolts and walked in to an aisle of one million little bins with one million different types of screws. Out comes the nuts and bolts guy and it literally took him a second to find the exact matches out of all those bins!!!I would have been there for hours(if not all night)!Thank you & keep up the good work! read more

I've been coming here for a couple of years for my gardening supplies. The two ladies that work in that department are always friendly and very helpful. I came in this Monday just before noon pick-up seven plants and a cubic foot of soil. As mentioned before I've always have gotten very good service in the gardening dept. I proceeded to the check-out line and waited for the cashier (who I have never seen working here before) to call me forward after helping the lady in front of me. She Left me hanging for a half minute before hitting me with a very off putting "are you ready" -from that point the cashier had me helping her do (what I thought) was her job. ie asking me to call off prices and then showing her the Price? She also had me repeat the price on one item 3 times?? I finished paying for everything and ask this cashier for box to carry the plants out with. No response -on the third request still not acknowledging me nor making eye contact she grabs the pa and asked for an associate to bring a box up to check out. When the clerk came up and asked me what can i help you with? I said a box for these plants. He then grabs the box from right behind the lady cashier who was "helping" me.. read more

Love this place! As a woman it can be intimidating to go into a hardware store when you are not exactly sure what you are looking for. I get nothing but top notch customer service here helping look for the items I need. And a big plus, they have the cutest gift shop section by the front cash registers. Fanatical customer service! If you have ever been to Home Depot or Lowes, or any other giant home improvement store for that matter (and who hasn't?) you'll get what I'm saying. Sometimes you can wander the isles for what seems like days trying to find someone (anyone!) who can answer a simple question. Where are your hose bibs? Will this gasket work with this fitting? Is the sky blue? And when you finally track someone down, they have no clue what your asking or they tell you that you need to speak with Tony in plumbing, but he's on his lunch break...great... But Schemper's is not like this at all! Literally, within seconds of walking in the door, you are greeted by one (if not several) of their helpful employees asking you if they can help you find anything. And they actually know how to help you. Once, I brought in a specialty lighting fixture looking for a bulb and they opened up several bulb packages trying to find me the right one. Another time I mentioned that my string trimmer wasn't working so they asked me to bring it in and they helped me get it started for free. Schemper's has a home town feel that you would want from a corner hardware store. They treat their customers with respect and go out of their way to help you. Because they are a smaller hardware store and not a big box like The Home Depot, occasionally they will not have a part or a tool you need, but more often than not they do which is why they will always be my first stop when working on a home improvement project or when I need a part for my lawn mower. read more

I was contacted by Ace yesterday regarding the Weber BBQ issue of not delivering to Manteca. They have apologized for the wrong info and offered the same deal of putting it together and delivering it at no charge whenever I'm ready. Excellent customer service has restored my faith in the one hardware store that really is a hardware store and not just a big box store. ACE has people that can answer your questions. They have most of what I need and have even provided several referrals of local folks to help with various things from sprinkler repair to stucco repair. The previous reviewer, Bao, has it wrong. Apparently he has been convinced by big box stores that customers should have to fend for themselves and bumble through a store to find what they are looking for, which is often a sales associate! By the way, I am a 64 year old female Caucasian who has frequented this store for over 30 years. I, too, am asked by every associate who sees me if I can be helped in any way to find something. If I turn a corner and encounter another, I am respectfully asked the same question. They are TRAINED that way on purpose to ask EVERY customer this question. It's called CUSTOMER SERVICE! Many who have come from larger cities or frequent big box stores could mistake this interest in you as suspicious or racially motivated. I assure you that I come under this same 'scrutiny ' by the associates but choose to be delighted with the extra attention to my needs. There are two ways to look at any situation. And yes, they wear earphones and communicate to other associates in the store regarding products etc. This is done on many stores - BestBuy for example- in an effort to best serve the customer in a timely, efficient manner. I'm sorry that Bao felt targeted, but he should try going in again with a new perspective and observe how ALL customers are treated in this store. He may realize that this store exercises an old practice of putting the customer and his/her needs first. Enjoy it!!! read more

I am in Schemper's Ace almost every week. They have just about everything I need, and have great service. Generally they go above and beyond with product recommendations and even helping me plan out my entire (and it was huge) sprinkler system for my new house. Sometimes you will get two or three of the almost over-zealous employees asking if they can help you with anything, depending on how many isles you walk down. It's a refreshing change from the big orange store where the employees run like heck when they see you coming or just say "uh, not my department man" It's worth the couple of extra bucks to shop local. read more

If you're not caucasian you'll be followed around the store & continually asked if you need help because they think you're stealing. I live right down the street & it happens to me all the time. I even hear them talking through their headsets sometimes to other employees to make sure to keep an eye on me or the individuals I'm with. They say it's good customer service, but no, what they're doing is really uncomfortable & it pushes me out of the store because I feel like I'm being harassed. read more

If this place was closer to where I lived I would be shopping here all the time instead of Home Depot. I don't think I've been in a place of business that is friendlier and more helpful. This hardware store is one of the best I've been to. Everyone that works there are so helpful and friendly. The night before I called the store and asked if they can make me a duplicate of my VW key. My key was the laser cut / sidewinder type key. I called almost every locksmith and hardware stores but they don't cut those type of keys. My only option at the time was the dealer. I almost spent $200 for a spare key from my local VW dealership. Luckily I searched online and someone suggested to try Ace Hardware. To my surprise they offered this service. I spoke to Ward ( I believe he was the store owner) and said he would gladly try to make a copy of my key for me. The next morning I was greeted by a few people who were expecting me. The owner told them I was coming down and to expect me. When I got there the person who actually was familiar with cutting this type of key wasn't available but they were going to try themselves anyway. Luckily an ex employee (I think his name was Collins) came to the store that morning. He had experience cutting these types of keys. Even though he didn't work there anymore he volunteered to cut the key. That's what I call team work. Now I have a spare key for my car at a very reasonable price. A big thanks to everyone at Ace Hardware and especially to Collins. I highly recommend this store. read more

In a way I kind of feel like I'm at the strip club there, well without the nudity because almost all the girls are super cute, and unusually nice to me, I almost feel like they really like me at times ,but then when I leave and females in public generally pay little to no attention to me as if I am non existent at times. After moving to Ripon I needed a few things for my new house. I went to ACE. The service is fantastic! Employees are always willing to help you out. I shopped at this store for years. It gets two stars from my past positive experiences; however today was much different. I purchased a stihl weedeater 16 months ago. When I purchased it, the salesman told me if I purchased oil for the weedeater the warranty would be extended for a total of two years. Well about a week ago it wouldn't start. I went through the motor and knew it was the fuel system. I took it in and told them it was the fuel system. They informed me if I purchased the oil extending the warranty it would be covered. Today I received a call my weedeater was done. I inquired before I went in about the warranty. They told me it wasn't covered due to it being a fuel system issue, (California gas.) After telling them when I dropped it off I told them what it was and they informed me it would be covered, they told me there was nothing they could do. It wasn't covered. It would have taken me 20 minutes to replace the part at a cost of about $40. I lost $80 in this transaction because I trusted them. They are a friendly store but do not stand behind their warranties. read more

About 3 weeks ago I was in the store for something else and noticed the sale on Stihl battery operated equipment. I spoke with a salesman who told me the battery and charger were separately priced from the equipment but that they were sold as a package. I went home and researched the various models of the hedge trimmers and got the specs on the compatible batteries. I called the store and a manager searched but could not find the standard battery for the model of hedge trimmer I was interested in but told me they had the larger, longer lasting one in stock. I asked him the price and he told me $169 for the package of battery and charger. A few days later I went back to buy the entire setup up but found they did not have any batteries in stock compatible with that specific hedge trimmer model, even though I had been told they did, but that they had them on back order. That salesman also told me it was a package price for the battery and charger, $169, and he even filled out a special order slip in my name with the $169 pricing for both the battery and charger so they could set aside the battery for me. I went ahead and purchased the hedge trimmer with that understanding of the pricing for the battery and charger. When the battery came in and I went to the store to make the purchase, someone had added an additional $79 to the special order slip in a different color ink as a separate price for the charger. When I asked about it I was told someone had made a mistake filling out the form and telling me it was a package price. I refused to make the purchase at that time but several days later I went ahead and purchased the battery with a much cheaper slow charger. I will have a hard time ever going back to a store that does not honor the price quote given to be by two separate salesmen and a manager. read more
