Stopped by after dropping off a package. From the outside, they appeared to be closed, but then i saw another customer leaving out. Once i entered in, it appeared to be closed, minimal but yet cool decor. I was instantly greeted by a worker. He asked if i was the pizza delivery from Jets. Lol. I stood there quite clueless, but eventually put two and two together. It's meant to be a strange encounter. Since i have never been here i was recommended to try the gooey butter cake donut. It was so soft, moist and tasted just like a gooey butter cake. I also ordered a maple bacon donut. It was delicious, not overly sweet, and just the right amount of savory! Finally visited for my first time after watching all the social posts with amazing donut pics! My hopes were high!! As I walked in, I felt I walked in the back door of a restaurant kitchen. Large kitchen equipment. No menu. No store front presence. No signage. One small table in the corner of the window. But no ambience at all to make you want to sit down. I was very confused. Very friendly lady working who explained the entire menu and daily donut selection. Wow kudos to her!! The strange funky selection for the week was none that appealed to me. I selected 5 random donuts from long John's to special hot peachy fritter to cinnamon roll. All were ok but nothing stood out and made me want to come back. The lack of a menu (even a basic one) is odd. All the donuts are out in the open on kitchen trays. It felt dirty and unkept. I really wanted to love this place and their donuts. After years of talks,I finally got a chance to check out strange donuts. They're known for their unique flavors and rotate them monthly. While they had a nice selection to choose from, I opted for something relatively light and went with the classic blueberry. Unfortunately, my high hopes were short lived as I bit into a cold, dry donut. It was thick and wasn't as flavorful as I had hoped. I think she said there was a light glaze but if there was one, it was really faint. Although that donut missed the mark, I'd be willing to give one of the others a try. We came in and were the first customers there. We were promptly greeted as soon as we came in. The female went over the types of donuts that they had for the day and what was special about them. They did have some classic donuts as well, so it was not just strange donuts. Love this for my kids that don't ever want to try anything new so they can have the classics while we try new donuts. They had a vegan special so I decided to finally give them a try. Layers of raspberry jelly, lemon jelly and vegan cake donut in a cup for $5. There's a lot going on in that cup! The cake donut was good and fresh. The jelly was sweet and...jelly-like. Pretty simple. It was good, but way more than I could handle alone. I only ate a couple of bites, the rest sits in the fridge. They don't really advertise their vegan options unless it's a special like the aforementioned one. I wish they 1- offered more vegan options (the special was the only vegan option on the day I went.); 2- advertised more about their daily vegan options The only thing I really disliked was how the employee used gloves to touch high-touch surfaces and containers, then used the same gloves to handle my donut. Walking in, I felt like I was in the wrong place with all the industrial kitchen equipment by the door. Then I see racks and racks of donuts just out in the open, not covered or anything. Soooo... I asked a young lady are they warm? I don't know if she understood me, so I asked again is it hot? I believe she said they're fresh...But not warm . Stopped in bright and early this morning around 6:30am to pick up a few donuts as a birthday treat for my husband. The business almost looked closed, and the space was very uninviting. No smells of freshly-made donuts or coffee brewing. Low lights, mostly blue neon. A sample of each of the donuts is out on the counter, but no menu is posted, nor are prices of anything. Not sure the donuts were made fresh that morning. 2 of the 4 were totally under-baked/fried & raw in the center (carrot cake and the chocolate cherry yeast donut). The blueberry cake was OK but had a very artificial blueberry taste. Rainbow pony (standard cake with blue icing & sprinkles) was the best. Saturday donuts with the nieces might become a tradition after going to Strange Donut on a Saturday morning. Ever since I moved to the area I noticed this location after often going to the Maplewood location many times throughout the years. It's a pretty small shop but they do have room for a table and some chairs in the corner for those lucky enough to snag it. We ordered and I feel like there maybe isn't as many choices as the Maplewood location? But they did have 8 or so options and that was enough for our needs. They were good donuts but I'm sure they would have been better if we got up earlier (we got there around 10:45am) they would have been fresher and better. First time to this location. Haven't been to strange in awhile and it was good. Plenty of parking and it wasn't crowded. Went there for the stranger and it didn't disappoint. For $5 I got a large donut with an apple inside! Officially the Fuji fried caramel apple done. There was a lot of cinnamon but it wasn't too sweet. I enjoyed it and recommend for anyone that likes apples. The donut crust was good. Tried the maple bacon and enjoyed it. Flavorful and not too dry. But I would've liked more bacon. The spiced pear was ok. The dough was dry so not something I would get again. A good visit. Staff was very friendly. Price a little steep to get a lot for the crew though. read more

I know this shop has been here for a while but they look like they just opened and ran out of money before they finished up. The front door glass is disgustingly dirty. My first impression was ... sadness. It just looked rundown. The cashier was sweeping as I came in and stopped to assist me. Instead of moving the pile she created or sweeping it up, she left it and requested I walk through/step over it - strange.... Hmmm As others have said, no menu no prices listed anywhere. The cashier was very friendly and described each donut. I made my selection, gave her cash and requested a spoon. She gave me my change and then handed me a an unwrapped spoon that she was holding by the spoon part, not the handle. The donut... maple bacon was definitely not worth the $3.31. We got donuts delivered from Door Dash on Saturday morning. I was visiting and had heard good things about this place so I wanted to try it out. We ordered a half dozen variety, which gave a good mix of glazed, iced, and filled donuts. I have a feeling they didn't travel particularly well but they were still tasty. These were my nephews first donuts. He particularly liked the Cheesecake one (it was topped with graham crackers). Very weird experience. As soon as you walk in, there's a bunch of equipment as if you came in the wrong way. No menu or prices, just old and unappetizing looking donuts in a case. I got two different ones and they both were cold but slimey?? The icing was melting off but like I said they were cold. Couldn't finish the first one and didn't even try the second one as I couldn't get it out of the bag without everything falling off and getting my hand and arm completely sticky. I love donuts! I love Strange Donuts! This location is currently getting their supply from the Maplewood store since their kitchen is not set up yet. So once they are out of a particular donut there is no one in the back baking up more. I've been to the Maplewood location once and now this location once. I've enjoyed both visits. Friendly and helpful staff and of course they keep it strange with their donuts. We tried the Linzer and the Hot Chocolate donuts. The Linzer was a December specialty donut with raspberry filling, topped with cream cheese icing. The hot chocolate was like a double chocolate cake donut with a marshmallow on top. I definitely want to go back when they have the STRANGER donuts available. They are over the top specialty donuts that sound amazing. Apparently they are only available on the weekends. read more

Long story short, it had been a minute since last I ate a Strange Donut. I saw their weekly 'stranger'-a weekend only, specialty donut-was their take on a Little Debbie Christmas Tree Cake. I had to have it and I'm here to report it was exquisite. I'd like to say it was hard to believe I jammed that 2lb donut down my gullet in a few minutes, but I'm a glutton so it was right on brand. I really wish I liked this place more. The staff is courteous and helpful. The location and idea behind it are great. I'm just not crazy about the doughnuts. I had one here a couple years ago that I thought was great - just a riff on an old school glazed and frosted cake. We got there late and I missed the Rainbow Ponies!! I'm 35, but I for sure pouted a little bit, because the 4 year old in me REALLY WANTED SPRINKLES!!!! Nick suggested the gluten free. My first and last experience consisted of the following... walked in and the store looked like it hadn't been cleaned in a month. Empty donut racks all over the place. One staff person tinkering around without any concern for the customers who walked in. No sign displaying the flavors of donuts. We were just supposed to know instinctively or guess. Actual donuts served had icing applied while the donuts were still warm, so everything looked melted and spread apart. Ordered 8 donuts for 3 people and had to ask for napkins. STRANGLEY disappointing. DOUGHT-NOT think this place is worth a trip out of the way for. The Maplewood location has the largest selection of donuts by far. The Creve Coeur location is good example of the dangers that come with expanding too fast too soon. The first time I went I was very disappointed for example the donuts were dry, heavy, cakey and not fresh. Almost like the donuts were made at a different location, refrigerated (which could explain the dryness) then transported days later for sale. The donuts tasted like they came from a DIY cake box. I went back and tried again thinking this was a one off moment and sadly it was not. The filled donuts were not very full. I have more fillings in my teeth then these donuts did. What little filling was present ould be described to be lacking in flavor and was bland. It was essentially old butter and sugar, no vanilla or hint of flavoring. This is not what I would expect from a boutique premium donut restaurant. I would expect these donuts to be the kind you find day old at a gas station or a complimentary hotel breakfast. Additionally it is a shame they put their beautifully decorate donuts in plain sack for them to be sloshed around on the drive home. I would expect a box or some type of container better suited to transport when your paying premium prices. I did enjoy the original location and hopefully they can bring the quality of their Creve Coeur location up to par. read more

I would love to give this donut dive five stars like everyone else. But I can't. I tried a total of three different donuts and was not amazed. The rainbow pony ($1.25) is a vanilla cake donut covered with a blue (vanilla) glaze and topped with sprinkles. The donut was dense and sweet. Decent. The second donut was the Black Forest. A chocolate cake donut covered with a cherry glaze. That's it. A little lame. How about some cherries in the batter. The third donut was one of their specialty donuts, a carmel apple fritter ($2.50). How appropriate for the fall. My only complaint is a lack of apple. Too few apple chunks fell into the batter. A sweet caramel icing drizzle tops this doughy delight. read more
