There is no kind customer service. They won't take a payment if your debit card has a Visa logo only MasterCard., they don't provide any information unless you poke up their ribs and ask questions they do not provide friendly answers either, I made a huge mistake of transferring over my loan and refinancing with them just to save $20 a month which is bogus and they are not lenient whatsoever. read more

Credit unions are not-for-profit, member-owned, and offer lower fees and better interest rates on loans and savings accounts. I've banked with Strata before their rebranding. At that time they were known as Kern Federal Credit Union. I've always had a nice experience with them. I've moved out of Bakersfield but still choose to remain a customer of theirs based on my customer experience and perks in being part of a credit union. One perk people hardly think about is life-insurance, which Strata provides $2,000 for free (at least for me). People don't think about how helpful these perks are, but always do your homework. Banks are for profit organizations that make money off of us. I particularly commend Strata for their member perks they have and their customer service! You're working with PEOPLE, you get to talk to a live PERSON, and you don't have to deal with a robot for most of your coversation. read more

I've been with Strata Credit Union since the Kern Federal days, when I worked with the county, and for many years, I was a loyal customer. Unfortunately, over the last few years, things have gone downhill fast. While I rarely need to visit the branch (thank you remote banking), the ATMs are frequently down, forcing me to go into the branch--usually the downtown location (close to work). The atmosphere there is incredibly cold and unfriendly now, and it's really disappointing to see how much the service has deteriorated. Recently, I had a series of issues with my account card not working and dealing with fraud. I tried to get help at different locations. The Coffee Road branch did what they could to assist, but I was still left with ongoing problems. I even requested to speak with someone in the executive team, gave them my contact info, and... nothing. I heard nothing back. When I finally went into the downtown branch for help, I was told that there were no executives available due to a remodel and, more shockingly, an employee outright told me not to expect any follow-up from the executive team because they don't even respond to their own staff! That was an eye-opener and deeply concerning. At this point, I've started moving all of our funds to my spouse's account at a different credit union, which we have never had problems with--we will be sticking with that ONE. I'm really sad to say this, but Strata Credit Union no longer has my (and many others I've spoken to) trust or my business. A new coat of paint can't fix the problems with this credit union. read more

Bank personnel are Amazing! The new branch locally has an amazing atmosphere and appeal. Downfall / their Strata MasterCard is junk! Do not get! They can't even report the right balance to the credit bureaus. I just had strata report I had 4,000 on my freaking credit card to Experian when I in fact have $0.00 balance. I banked with Strata before they were Strata and were still Kern Federal Credit Union. My parents banked with them before I did and decided to bank with them after terrible experiences at actual BANKS. Strata has been a great Credit Union to bank with. I moved to Portland, OR, and still have them as my Credit Union; they are lovely. If I cannot get in touch with someone right away, I leave a VM and typically hear from someone within 1-2 hours. Total thieves.. wont let you make a payment after 5pm online without charging you a late fee!! even if you try to pay a day before your payment ie home, car, loan payment is due, if its on a Saturday they wont acknowledge it so don't break you keyboard trying to punch it todays date they wont let you the current date. Also they raise your payments if you make extra payments guess what all of a sudden you are expected to pay the 20 bucks extra! its disgusting, this company is 110 NOT FOR YOU!!! Go else where!! feel so sorry for anyone getting screwed the same as me for their 10 dollar charge to make an online payment and if its after 5 oclock on the day its due, guess what?? NOPE they charge a 30 dollar later fee every time, so 10 plus 30 over a dozen times has turned my 4% loan into a 7% loan over the last 5 yrs alone!! So very disturbing and sad to see this and with 0 compliance to our states laws. Change loan company's asap!!! Don't allow this corruption, they do it to all the poor people or people whos 1st language is Spanish I have been told over and over and and my first language is English and its easy to see how many innocent hard working people this so called company has exploited!! I've been banking with Strata Credit Union for little over 3 years now and I'm satisfied with the customer service. Everyone is always friendly and accommodating. However, the staff is often quite young and lacks the experience, knowledge and education to help me with more complex financial matters. That said, they try their best to help me with my needs and are always polite. For basic/starting checking & savings needs, I would recommend them. Additionally, the dress code could be slightly more professional for a financial institution - it's a bit too casual for my liking (workout attire, hoodies and jeans). read more

My home loan was just given to another company, basically giving me a headache of having to set up a new payment system with a different company. Oh, and this was done just a few days before the effective date. So I have to deal with something I didn't ask for. Bank somewhere else! Do not try to get any home loan products from this place. I applied online for a home loan refi one week ago and have received no response whatsoever from the numerous emails, voicemails, and in-house urgent messages left with Ashley (their only mortgage loan officer). I've been trying to cancel the loan and I can't get verification that my messages were received. During this time I also tried to do a balance transfer with my credit card, which I've done by phone in the past, and the csr had no idea what I was talking about. I had to tell her to go ask someone else about it and she came back to say "we can't do that by phone anymore, you can try online". I just called again and was told their computers are down so they can't transfer me to the mortgage dept because they can't pull up the contact info. This CU has become a joke. read more

Absolute worst website and online support. Absolutely non-user friendly process to retrieve a forgotten log in or password online. I have many bank accounts, credit card accounts, etc., and all of them are infinitely better than Strata on this issue. I have been trying to reach someone to help me with my forgotten log in and password for online banking for days. First I'm told the system is down, call back. Then I'm told they have to call me back, that the phone representative I reach cannot help me. Second, my "debit card" is rejected 9 times out of 10 times I try to use it. I have gone into the bank to tell them it is not functioning as a debit card, that the card only works at the ATM, and they check it and tell me its fine, then once again it gets rejected at a store. I only use this credit union as a savings account. Extremely unhappy with using it for anything else. read more

Like many of the other one-star comments, I would have to agree that the biggest problem is the non-responsiveness. I called them to ask questions about a HELOC and their voicemail instructed me that all of their loan personnel were on other calls; however, I would receive a return call ASAP or by the end of the business day. No response. I called the next day. Same voicemail, same non-response. I went in to speak to a loan officer directly. Ashley answered my questions but when I emailed her with a few more questions...well, I'm still waiting for a response. I have been in contact with other loan institutions who have been much more responsive so I will probably make my arrangements through them. read more

I'm so irritated with them. We have our car loan through them. When I mailed the payment last time, I mistakenly sent them the wrong check. I called to ask them to hold it, but the person I needed to talk to wasn't available. I forgot to call them back, but they cashed the check anyway after they scratched out the payee's name and scrawled KFCU in. I'm anticipating a headache trying to get that money back. I would just pay the thing online, but their online setup charges an extra $10 a month for that. read more

Wow, day/ night change with this bank due to new management. I can get in and out of the line during the lunch rush in a few minutes so i still have time for lunch. The new online website is better all around than its predecessor. The staff even seems friendlier much to my surprise. The teller Adaliz is usually who I get, and she is always friendly and helpful. I want to sincerely warn anyone from doing business with Kern FCU. Aside from this institution not being accepted into the CU Service Network (the network of accredited Credit Unions that work together to service all credit union clients....and it's no wonder why they don't qualify) and aside from giving misinformation or misrepresenting themselves by not giving all of the information that the member needs to make a decision regarding a variety of loans or accounts, they simply aren't loyal to their customers. After my father had a number of fraudulent charges on his account they revoked his ATM card and yet kept his money. They accused him of allowing people to access his account information...A 73-year-old man in a nursing facility trying to recover from severe wound infections. So instead of protecting him while he was vulnerable they made him the culprit. He's was a county worker for Kern for over 30 years and a member of Kern FCU For over 25 years and he was at fault for having fraudulent charges. He had seven accounts with this institution that he kept all current until one year when things got difficult. We even appealed to the EVP Jennifer Bruker who's rudeness and disdain for my father's situation was clear. She could have cared less that he was a member for 25 years or any of the other circumstances surrounding the fraud claims... which by the way were never refunded. I have also never experienced a bank so so slow in their processes. Every single thing takes 5 to 10 business days whereas with a normal Bank it takes 3 to 5. I mean go ahead and open an account just don't ever need anything from them in a timely fashion or ever get sick or have your fraudulent charges refunded and never ever expect this institution to have you back. Is there any option for zero stars? I am such a fan on small businesses and I myself am a part of a credit union and I have never been treated or talk to in the manner with my own banks but what I went through alongside my dad was just shameful. Refinanced a car loan with Ernie Sanchez at the Downtown branch. This was the worst decision ever. This guy was so improperly trained. Our auto loan experience from Sanchez to Webb and finally with the CEO, Ivie. Someone there should care about the members and accept some responsibility. Great place to bank. Their checking accounts offer high interest, unlimited atm reimbursements, Cashback, and Amazon /itunes refunds. Their Saver account offer high interest rates. My only complaint is getting in touch with a financial service representative can sometimes take weeks but if you call at 9am they always answer. I have banked with Kern Federal for 20 years. Recently I was reminded why I prefer banking at a credit union. I needed to make a wire transfer and was mistakenly given the wrong amount.
