A very friendly couple/owners checked us in with a welcoming glass of a very tasty whiskey or sherry. All of our rooms faced the Loch, what a view. The hotel is a smaller but so up to date and freshly decorated and painted and you could tell the owners took pride in their hotel. It was close to town, a very short walk and you are on the sea front. Breakfast in the morning was just as great, everything you needed and nothing you dont. The food was great and the service just as good.There was no shortage of anything. If I was coming back to Ullapool there would be no other choice.

Although we both got too hot through the night with the heavy blanket. Had the window open the second night which was fine. Room had facilities for tea/coffee etc & even some cookies. Tiny tv. Free wifi in the room which was much appreciated by us. Big bathroom with a shower over bath. Breakfast was great. Option for smoked salmon & scrambled eggs or cooked breakfast. You can also have porridge if you like. There is yoghurt, fruit, juice and cereal if you prefer something lighter in the mornings. Portions are generous so you'll set off with a full belly! Would def stay here again!

My room was not ensuite, but I had a private bathroom just down the hall, which was equally as clean and well-stocked as the room itself. Also, the room had its own sink, which I was grateful for. Was only here for one night with the tour, but will gladly stay here again should I return to Ullapool.

We stopped at The Old Smiddy Guesthouse in Laide. In the website pictures, it looks like the house is in a quiet pasture, but in fact it sits right on a busy road and your bedroom sits only 10 feet from the road, so you will get road noise and car headlights in your room at night. The room is in the owners home, which is a cute old croft style house. When we arrived in the late afternoon, the heat had not been turned on in the room yet, and it took a few hours to warm up. Then we discovered the kitchen in the B&B was not open (closed early for the season) for dinner, and we had to drive over 20 miles to the next town to get takeout to bring back for dinner after a long day of driving. The breakfast in the morning, prepared by the owners (lovely ladies), was good, and included in your stay. I even managed a quick walk in the adjoining park that is maintained by all of the residents in the town before breakfast.

We found them (thanks to his maps and good directions) the places he suggested were beautiful. I'd be happy to go back to Scourie Lodge.
