I walked in and it immediately took me back to my childhood minus the tvs on the walls vs a big projector screen. Lol It was a bittersweet to see that there was hardly anyone dining. -Bitter because I believe there servers was attentive and the dining rooms were cater to many rooms to fit the environment of many and -sweet because I currently was in a mood desiring quiet and it was quite. Straw hat has been around Manteca since before I was born. It used to be a great place. But at one point it shifted owners and really went downhill. I've recently starting seeing that another new owner took over and was hoping to return it back to its original glory. So I gave them a try today with no expectations. I used door dash and ordered a hot hat and a drink. To my surprise the food was delivered almost immediately even though it estimated an hour. I got more than just a hot hat. The food box was also full of potato wedges and a pickle and a serving of ranch dip. The food was fresh and delicious. The only critique I can say is that the wedges could be cooked just a tad longer. But they're still edible. Great job. I'll be rooting for straw hat to make a comeback! read more

I used to come here a lot with my dad back in 2012 or so. It's been a while since Ive been here, and my family and I decided to come and get some pizza. Well, I have to say I was very very disappointed. There was not beer on tap. The soda machine broken. Only ice, and beer in a bottle. I paid for pizza with creamy garlic ranch sauce. Pizza came with red sauce. The pizza did not taste the same. Must be using some knock off brand of dough and sauce. To top it off, I ordered a 12 piece chicken wings. They came with 11 small pieces of some budget size wings (two legs, the rest flats). Look at the picture. You'll see what I mean. I'm not sure what happened to the place I used liked so much. I'm done with this place . About a year ago I ordered through door dash on a Sat night . A pastrami hot hat and a veggie pizza. Pizza was raw , sandwich was greasy and nothing but gristle. Just nasty . Called to complain as it was totally not edible and mgr at the time blamed it on "it being a busy sat night but never offered my money back a discount on next order nothing . Needless to say yesterday was the first time I've ordered in a year trying to give them another chance . Ordered a lemon chicken pizza and a pastrami hot hat. I get my order through GrubHub and the sandwich is burnt and the same greasy fatty pastrami . At first, we were upset with our order previously placed, never being taken or prepared as we easily had over 50 guests with us. I've been coming to this Straw Hat for 24 years, pizza was always awesome. Saw this place come and go with different owners but as far as the new ones, other than the pizza and food, this is horrible they doubled the prices on the pizza. They have no coupons whatsoever. They do have a deal on Tuesdays for 40% off, but that's only for dine in or takeout not delivery and they don't even have delivery drivers anymore. They make you use DoorDash what even makes the price go up even higher. Whoever is running this place you need to do a better job. I am stop coming here until they make it more customer friendly, don't get me wrong. The employees are very nice and friendly but if you looking for something to take home or delivery, I would pass this place up. You can get pizza much cheaper somewhere else and this is coming from a customer of 24 years I am disabled and I can't get out much so I depend on delivery, it's sad that they take that away from me and other customers read more

If I could give this place a negative rating I would! By far the most insanitary restaurant I've been too. We attend my sons basketball team party at Straw Hat, waited in line for over 45 mins just to order and waited another 40 mins for our order. I knew they were short staffed so while I waited for my pizza I ordered a salad buffet plate to hold me over. I walked over and started to make my salad as I passed the lettuce I started to take notice that the rest of the vegetables had looked wilted and rotten. I picked up a few onions and notice some green hairy fungus on my red onions I laid on my plate. I inspected it and realized it was MOLD! I immediately went to the cashier and requested a refund and for them to change out the contaminated vegetables, I sat there for another30 mins waiting for the salad bar to be changed out, it was never done. In fact, the cashier kept selling the salad and allowed customers to eat out of the salad bar. Just before I left I reminded the staff once again to change out the salad. This place should be shut down! My next step is to report them. read more

When it WAS my turn the gentleman at the register told me I would have to get into the other line (order line) I told him that was not going to happen, since I had called in my order and waited in the take out line I was not going to wait an other 30 minutes line to get a cold pizza. I told him I'll take the pizzas or you can eat them. I guess he ate them. I called Guido's Pizza an picked up in 15 minutes. Guido's is the best pizza in Manteca. Ok small store, quiet when I went for their lunch special (salad bar, drink, and pan pizza for 7.42 TOTAL) A bit pricey but I had 2 salads, pizza, and 4 refills on the Gold Peak Tea machine (which I had never seen before, but gold peak is my FAV sweetened tea "on tap" so to say) and I was stuffed healthy actually. Pizza didn't wow me per say, but it was good, little low on the sauce side sadly so I can't tell you about that so I kinda figured my personal pan size was the reason of little sauce, it was a little pizza. Cheese good, crust is just how I like it. Its a nice crispy mid-range size with garlic flavor. Salad bar was fresh, and this is why I gave it 4, the salad and free refills were just good wholesome healthy choices for a pizza place. I got my protein fix on the eggs and cottage cheese with salad. The place is clean, wait staff is nice, and it wasn't busy at all making it easy for me to sit in front of the flat screen TV by myself and do work while watching and eating lunch Fun Story: Some old timers rolled in hassling the clerk about picking orders for lunch, ingredient by ingredient and had a calculator for their order! this is basically the best place to get pizza in manteca. The cashiers are your buds and never mess up on orders. Do not leave without having our soda, its like nothing else in town. But seriously I work here, and have nothing but good to say about this place. If you're into a relatively quiet pizza place in town this is it. We went for dinner buffet. $10 a person for pizza, garlic twists, wings and salad bar. Definitely a great deal! The staff was all friendly. Salad bar was clean and stocked. They have the touch screen flavored soda machine which is always nice. The pizza wasn't fresh when we got there which is understandable and only 1 wing left. There was only 2 pepperoni slices left so my husband grabbed those and waited for more. There was still about 70min left for the buffet and no sign of them putting out more. We finally had to go ask and they made one but was still a little disappointed that they weren't switching out left overs with fresh pizzas, wings and twists. My husband and I went there today and had a great experience with the wednesday dinner buffet. It was $7.99 for a soda and the buffet. The buffet had the salad bar, potato wedges, groovy cheesy bread twists, BBQ wings, buffalo wings, 3 different pizzas at the time. The soda was cool because there was a sweet tea option :D I love sweet tea! The only thing I didn't really like was that I was expecting jalapeño poppers or green bean crispers but it was still an amazing price for unlimited wings, pizza and potato wedges. Me & my boyfriend came for his birthday June 2 around 6. There was a terribly ghetto and disruptive group in the front of the restraunt so we sat in the back by all the big tvs. We ordered a large pizza & twists. They cranked the basketball championships so that was fun. The workers gave excellent service and always had such nice attitudes. They really made me happy.
