An ok driving range, really your only choice for a driving range in Philadelphia (5 iron golf excluded unless money is no object). There's always enough Tee boxes to spread out, I wish there was some sun cover, they're all just very open. $15 for 90 balls, $20 for 125 balls, perhaps a touch expensive for the quality. read more

Great hidden gem in Philly that has recently reopened. Location is great from Ucity being a 15min commute rather than making it all the way out to Tees or Camden. The price for a large bucket (~90 balls) was $15 cash or cash app only. Not that many targets to hit at yet but just a great, convinient location to get some hitting in. The mats are in beautiful condition with rental clubs available as well. The hours I was told was 7 Days a Week (10am-8pm). Thursdays close at 5:30pm to cut the grass! read more

He seems like a really nice guy and I'm def. glad I got to hit the range at a good price. Although they are now "reopened", the new ownership is still trash, and has done nothing to ensure that this driving range is being operated with any sort of common sense or care at all for the customer. Still no website, no phone number, no set hours of operation, etc. There is no way to tell if they are open other than getting in your car to drive over. Since they have been "reopened", I have gotten burned a handful of times by driving over there to find that they are inexplicably closed. What a wasted opportunity by inept humans. Rudest guy working the register. I brought $10 and didn't realize the normal size bucket is $12. So I asked for 2 of the small chipping size buckets which were $4. I asked nicely if he could just dump them into a medium size bucket bc I only had one hand....easy enough? No, he told me that would be $12. Last time I checked 2 buckets of 25 balls equals 50 balls. And 2 buckets of 25 balls dumped into a larger bucket for convenience, is still 50 balls? No, the guy told me I was pulling a slick one and gave me a ton of attitude. I got my money back and left. Quick drive to Strawberry Mansion above the Art Museum and I'm swinging clubs. It's never packed where I have to wait to jump into a tee box. No frills, nicely maintained, and beautiful views of Center City from any tee box. Stoney is a super nice guy and besides his comedic banter and excellent hospitality, even provides a few tips to improve your swing. They also have batting cages there, but I have never taken advantage of them. Top notch operation for someone looking for a nice friendly place to get out and swing the clubs. read more

I visited the Strawberry Green Driving Range the morning of August 10th for about an hour and soon came to learn the man running the place at the time is easily the most offensive and rude person in the city of Philadelphia. I was having a perfectly fine time hitting balls for about an hour, down in the grass area past the mats. When I initially checked in, I asked him if this was ok as I saw people hitting from there on other days, and he said yes but to stay behind the cone because he "doesn't want to be responsible if I get hit by someone else's sliced ball." Weird and kind of patronizing interaction, but I understood what he meant, and went about my business. Truly no problem. After I finished and walked back to the shack to hand the bucket in, he asked me, word for word, "would you have hit balls like that if this place was owned by whites?" I was shocked initially, and after some quick prodding he apparently took issue that I was taking some divots on my iron strikes. Because when you hit a golf ball, dirt also comes up. It's literally unavoidable. He also made no effort in the hour-plus I was there hitting to talk to me. He kept going back to the "owned by whites" question, to which I did not dignify with a response. I just picked up my bag and walked out, during which he yelled, multiple times, "go walk back to your white country club." I'm truly sympathetic to whatever this guy has dealt with in his life that causes him to go looking for such a fight, but it's also so sad that he's going to run otherwise good people and good customers away from what I fully expected to be an awesome driving range in the city. Other online reviews indicate many others have had run ins with this man's rudeness, to put it lightly. I moved right around the corner and planned to come here many times each week, but I'll never be back as long as he's involved with this business. read more

That said, you hit into grass (versus a field of dirt or turf) with markers at 100, 150, 200, 250, and 300 yard (just in case?). There are approximately 15 tees, all at ground level, about 5 of which are covered. Easy-to-get to location with plenty of parking. Hours in the summer: 9a-9p. Closed Mondays. Set up right on the eastern edge of Fairmount Park, now that spring is here the range is a verdant oasis in the middle of much blight. And only 10-15 minutes away, tops, from most of the more western sections of Center, North and Northwest Philly! I've read the other reviews. It's not a dump. I don't know what some of them were expecting, but It's a driving range. A place to rent and hit balls. What more do you need at a range than grass for everything other than drives, turf tee stalls for the babies, yard markers, and a building that rents balls, sells tees, and even has Gatorade and Water for sale on hot days? Strawberry Green has all that, not to mention that they offer lessons upon request and absolutely have established business hours (Mon-Sun 10:30 am - 9 pm). It's a local, informal business, however, with a lot of dead time-- do yourself a favor and don't show up at 10:30 am on the dot and be pissed if the guy doesn't open til 10:45 or 11:00. And don't show up at 8:30 pm and be pissed that he shut down early for the night. It's just a seasonal driving range in the middle of Strawberry Mansion. Also, there are no overheads (no pavilions, no stalls with roofs, whatever you want to call them), so when it's a rainy day they are most likely closed. The two reasons I've been futiley but fun-ly working on my game here since my parents forced me to go to the City's Golf Camp when I was 10: - Double Bubble Plaster Bucket of Balls! When I started it was like $3. It's only $12 now. Just moved to the Fairmount area and my fiancé and I were excited to find a driving range so close to home. When we showed up the range said closed but a few people were still finishing up. My fiancé went in to find out the business hours for future reference. He said to the worker "excuse me just wondering what your hours are?" And the reply from the worker was "what is it with you people? Don't you see the sign that says we are closed?" And proceeded to yell and follow my fiancé out the gate. Legit. This driving range run out of a double wide trailer is inexpensive, casual, and exactly appropriate for those who share my unskilled-but-eager attitude about golf. I am a horrible golfer, am way too impatient to properly hit balls at the range, but my parents are so obsessed with golf that I took lessons as a 12 year old. Yeah. So my golfing legacy has brought me to this moderately sketchy driving range on the edge of Fairmount Park and I wouldn't have it any other way. There do seem to be a lot of folks who know how to golf and are working on their game, and I am glad there is a driving range where we can all coexist. read more

Can hit on grass and it looks like there are some new mats, always plenty of adirondack chairs and they've had a couple canopies out recently too which is nice to have a bit of shade on a hot day. Located just outside of center city in the Strawberry Mansion area, Strawberry Green has everything you need for a good driving range: 1) Cheap rates, 2) Plenty of level mats, 3) Grass space for irons/tee work, and 4) A great atmosphere. Closest range to the city so buckets are expensive but if you get the largest bucket it is somewhat comparable in price as other ranges. A lot of space and well marked distances. You won't get great customer service but they let you bring drinks and hangout so it balances out. No putting or chipping green, but fine for everything else. The range in Camden is nicer and cheaper but they use floater balls so pick the lesser of 2 evils. read more

It's just north of Girard on 33rd, and has a pretty great view of the Philly skyline. The guys who run it are awesome. And you can hit off of grass or turf. Not much to complain about. This is my regular routine driving range now. It's Ok if you only want to practice on mat. Grass area dirt is really hard. I won't practice with my own clubs. No green. No bunker. Interestingly, some of the balls are partially painted with red color and will leave a light pink mark on your clubs. Not sure it is on purpose. It actually helps me know where I hit the ball.
