We come here at least once every other week. Last time we dined it was very disappointed. We came in on a Wednesday with a party of 4 adults and 2 children. Place at the time was fairly empty. We placed our order, pretty simple stuff: burgers, childrens menu and soft drinks. After 15 min. the place started to get busy, but our food was not coming out. We started noticing tables that arrived much after we did getting their food. I approached three different servers, and still nothing. 30 minutes later our food came out. Some cold, my chicken sandwich, which usually is a large juicy piece of fried chicken breast, was a thin breaded overcooked pounded chicken. Some sides came after we finished our meal, etc. No one seemed to take charge and fix the situation. Just an overall mess! Never seen this place out of sync like this. It was a Wednesday. Yes, this is a very popular place. We got there on a Saturday morning and there was a thirty minute wait time to get a table. The inside looks like a huge cafeteria . There were maybe four to five waitresses serving a very large room. There were many young children running around the place. The ice cream counter was your typical multi flavor area dispenser. We decided to forgo breakfast and walk across the street to check out the fruit. This is where things went downhill. The strawberry packages contained rather soft over ripe fruit? The peaches, for the most part, also were over ripe. The blackberries were rather mushy. The one fruit we really liked were the small plums. They were delicious. For the most part, we like our supermarket fruit much better than Strawberry Hill. We like choosing individual fruit instead of ones in a package. The watermelons come from Florida. It is hit or miss whether you get one that is not over ripe. Fruit tastes are subjective and this is only my personal opinion. read more

I've been making the trip here every season for years. Went yesterday (5/16) and for the first time ever was very disappointed. Don't know what's going on with this place now but it was just the old bait and switch that you can get anywhere. Small pails with nice berries only a couple deep then the rest misshapen and unripe. Met my cousin and his family here on their recommendation. Thought we had missed it. Just kept driving and seeing very few cars. Then we arrived and there were all the cars! There appear to be two parts of Strawberry Hill. One a fresh market with local fruits and veggies on south side of road. The other a homestyle restaurant with traditional choices and an ice cream parlor with delicious ice creams. The six of us were seated right away and brought menus. We ordered two single hot dog plates with chili & coleslaw & tots, one grilled chicken salad, two hamburger steak plates with corn & green beans, and a pulled pork sandwich made with vinegar (East Carolina) sauce & coleslaw & onion rings. Our food came quickly and was enjoyed by all. My 94 year old aunt cleaned her plate! I really enjoyed my BBQ - just the way I remember it! There was some discussion about their famous peach cobbler, but our party split. The four girls piled in one car and headed for casino nearby. My cousin and I went to his house to watch old Cowboy movies. Later we met back up to head to home or hotel. My wife was deliberately slow. After everyone had left, she said "Let's go try the peach cobbler!" We did, warmed up and with a scoop of butter pecan ice cream. It was sooo wonderful! I had to fight for a couple bites!! Great food and ice cream, great service, homey feel. Breakfast at this place is not really what I was expecting, the special peach pancake was really a pancake with peaches cut up in pieces on top and peaches were not even ripe. My 5 star review stands for the Strawberry milk shake but that is about it. Loaded hash browns were greasy I had a Coffee milk shake and it didn't taste like coffee at all, maybe it is made with artificial flavors. I love visiting the peach/strawberry shed on one side of the road and then crossing over to the restaurant for homemade ice cream. I haven't eaten a meal in the restaurant- just Ice cream. We drive 3 hours every year to get peaches. Drove today to get red globes and there wasnt anyone that spoke English in a "USA" supposed patriotic place. The peach cider wasnt frozen in machine but sold it anyways and says no comprehend. Their prices are over the top. The watermelons had tags on them from Florida. They didn't even grow them? There is more peaches in the baskets than if you ask to put in a box. But they will put them in a box and leave the extra out so don't ask for a box. Also over 1/3 of the peaches sitting out in the 1/2 bushels were rotten. What used to be a good family trip turned into "I will find another peach place." What a neat Find!! We decided to take a ride today and we like taking different ways back home. We ate Dinner not far away and decided to head this way home. A bit of a different route for us. He was going to get 2 scoops but she went to put more and he said wow! She let him know this was the one scoop!! Amazing! I opted to go with one scoop in a cup. I actually got 2 different flavors. Since one scoop is like 2! I got black cherry and a raspberry. The black cherry had huge pieces of black cherries! The raspberry had pieces of dark chocolate through out, like mini chocolate cups like a ressee miniature cup. Very good!! All homemade. Not too sweet. And thank goodness we got one scoop it was plenty!! She was very good with customers. They were getting the place ready to close or I would have asked more questions about the place. I love this place! The food was excellent and was a super deal! The service is great and friendly and the cafe is nice. The ice cream is so good and they give you samples to help you decide what flavors you want to get. We had a group of 8 and they seated us quickly and our food arrived in a timely manner. This place is a breath of fresh air in South Carolina. It is tucked away is a very quaint little spot and has beautiful scenery all around especially in the fall with the farmers market across the street. The service here was fantastic and the food was amazing. I recently moved away and dream about their chicken fried steak sandwich on a buttermilk biscuit. I know companies have "rules" and because we were a party of 5, we had to wait 50 minutes for seating as most coming in were parties of 2 or 4. Think they had 3 tables for over 4 seating. After 30 mins I asked if they could put 2 smaller tables together, but waitress just smiled. Sure she had been instructed to smile at anything said. We drove a little off the beaten path to come to this place on trip back home. It was about 10 miles off the interstate, but what can I say-- we wanted peaches. When we arrived we noticed on one side of the road you have the ginormous fresh produce market and on the other is a diner/ice cream shop. We stopped at the market first. They had a variety of tomatoes, peaches, corn, and strawberries. They also have fresh honey and jams. After that, we drove across the street for some lunch. We got cheeseburgers and hotdogs. The food was good and the service was also pretty good. We also got some ice cream before we left and that was my favorite part. It's a MUST! We had a great visit. We were driving the scenic highway 11 route, saw the signs and pulled over as we like out of the way, small cafes. It was busy inside (Friday at 12pm) but we got a booth right away. The menu is pretty straightforward. I ordered a club sandwich & fries and my husband got the all american burger & fries. My club was good; lots of crisp bacon, fresh veggies and plenty of fries. His burger was huge; two big, cheesy patties and a bun substantial enough to keep it together (for a minute, at least). Overall, this is a good place to stop and have a quick, simple lunch. Too bad we were so full or we'd have tried some of the ice-cream! PS if you want to get their special (menu said spaghetti on Fridays), I suggest you get here early because they were already out at noon.
