Had an okay stop at Strawberry Station General Store. The store itself is nice and convenient with a good variety of snacks, drinks, and basic supplies. It is a helpful place to grab things if you are passing through the area. Unfortunately, the service experience left a bad impression. I overheard the owners talking negatively about customers after they thought they had left, just because those customers asked a simple question and were not locals. That felt unprofessional and unwelcoming. Overall, the store has what you need, but the customer service and attitude could definitely be more friendly and respectful toward everyone. read more

Neat shop, great snacks, friendly people, and a great place for snowboard/ski rentals. It wasn't too busy around 8:30/9am on a Saturday, and everyone in the store was so friendly. They got us set up pretty quickly and out for around $40 for boots/board for the day. They had some good snacks in there too so definitely a good place to stop regardless. read more

Fantastic storefront to get ski rentals! we were helped out by the nice couple who own the shop, as 2 of my friends needed ski rentals for our day trip to Sierra at Tahoe. They were so helpful and did a great job of explaining how to adjust our boots, ensuring everything fit properly, and overall were so kind and accommodating. Rental process was very quick and easy. I rented my skis from a different shop in Sac and the customer service was truly day and night from my experience - I wish I just went here instead! Their rentals are also great quality, they have newer skis and boots (and from what the owner informed us, they replace skis every 3 years, tops) hence why everything appeared to be in such great condition. When traveling to or from Tahoe on the 50, this store is located just about in the right place for restroom and snacks for the road kinda stop. It's an easier stop if traveling westbound as it's on the north (right) side of the road and you don't have to cross busy traffic to pull off. They even have electric car charging stations if you need and you might having an electric car. I have gas to no need for me. The inside of the store is nice and clean and seems organized like a normal store with the drinks and snacks easy to find. Prices are normal convience store pricing, so yeah same stuff is cheaper at Walmart, but this ain't Walmart out here in the mountains. Staff was efficient and checked out my purchases fine. This place is located right across the highway from the Strawberry Lodge. All these little towns along Highway 50 have small gas stations and stores, but I would stop at one where the store is in your direction of travel, it's way dangerous trying to cross oncoming traffic on this busy road ... and you really don't wanna try crossing traffic in the winter with chain controls up! read more

Just a beautiful little way-station, out on highway 50. Food? All sorts of drinks? Espresso machine? Oh, and worms? (an assortment of fresh fishing lures) It's basically a little general store that has most anything you need but only in small amounts. The public bathroom is nice and clean even if there is a line some days. I don't need them but I saw electric vehicle charging stations outside. read more

A great pit stop on the way to or from the Sierra. The store is stocked with lots of goodies and is very clean. We rented skis there today and the process was so easy. We were in and out in less than 15 minutes and the prices were much cheaper than at Sierra at Tahoe where we skied. The staff are great: friendly and efficient. I have driven by this store so many times without stopping but now it will be my go to place on Highway 50! read more

If you're heading up this way towards Tahoe. This is a go to place if you want somewhere to stop and shop for things you might need on the road or for when you get to your location I believe it's family ran. They are very friendly helpful. they have things for you to rent as well as a bathroom for those that need a place to use the restroom but don't just use the restroom. Be sure to check out their store and buy a few things that you could use during your trip to pay it forward for them having their bathroom open that's just my opinion and my morals and ethics talking, they do have some good choices for snacks and food so don't miss out on stopping by this place. I do see a EV charger as well for those that have electric vehicles that may need a charge so if you're in this area heading up towards Tahoe or away from Tahoe. Wow! It just doesn't get any cooler than this! I hand I can time but a place to socialize for the locals! Squirrel and Jennifer are two awesome people that run this little store! And they've got more than you think! You should definitely stop by! Oh yeah and if you're all electric like I am in the car world, they definitely have the EV go chargers here for you too! Ask where or what the story is on how the chargers got here! they have lots of pretty cool stuff inside! This place definitely deserves 5 stars all around - customer service, gear was in great condition, cleanliness, efficiency, and extremely well-informed staff. First-time snowboarder here but came with experienced friends for clothing/boots/bindings/board rentals, wax, and to set up the bindings on my board. Left with knowing how to set up a board on my own + a lot about the different kinds of boards, etc. Even my friends learned a few more things from the staff. Will definitely be coming back if I need anything last minute because they took care of my group of 4 for all the mentioned services above in less than 30 minutes. Return is also so simple and fast. So happy with this cute joint. It's like a big mom and pop shop. They are so friendly and easy to talk to that I feel comfortable enough to have this phone number on my phone so that any time I am coming to Tahoe I just phone them and ask if I need snow tires. They are happy to serve us and I want to make sure I stress all the good stuff first. Incredibly cheap prices on everything and priceless advice. Although the driveway is a bit tricky once you pull in with winter snow weather. So much so my escalade could not get out from the exit. We kept sliding around. Super spooked we attempted to go out the way we came. Success! Just be careful out there. I seen many cars trapped there. read more

Great little stop on the way up to the resorts. It's about 7 miles from Sierra at Tahoe. Ski rentals, lift tickets and coffee to warm you! Some clothing, mostly high priced, but some nice choices. The Market is an integral part of the small community of Strawberry, an American gem that's increasingly rare these days. The only market between Kyburz and Tahoe. Super friendly service in a quaint mountain town. If it weren't for the market, I would have to make a lot more trips to Tahoe.. This store literally saved our butts from being stranded out in a cold winter night. You will also meet some friendly and generous people that run the store. As a new Tesla driver on our first long distance journey to South Lake Tahoe in inclimate weather, we almost ran out of juice trying to reach our destination. Long story short, had it not been for Squirrel, one of the owners, and his CHAdeMO to Tesla adapter, we would have certainly been stranded that night. They even kept the store open past closing time on Black Friday so we could finish charging and asked for nothing in return. If you drive an EV, you should stop by here for food/snacks, supplies and a quick charge at one of two EVgo charging stations. If you drive a Tesla, go inside and let them know and they should be able to hook you up with the adapter. This will definitely be my stop for future Tahoe trips! read more

I stopped here on the way up to Sierra at tahoe. It was my first time snowboarding and I decided to rent my snowboarding gear here so I wouldn't face long lines. The man who helped me was super helpful and gave me my rented snowboard according to my size as well as experience in riding. He also suggested a helmet which was so needed! I would stop here again. This place was a great stop. I was happy to make a purchase in order to use the restroom. Even though I could've just walked across the street if that was a big deal. We bought a couple of candy bars and a specialty bottled soda ($10.67) There are bear carvings all over that seem to run from $200 for the smallest one to much larger figures. They were beautiful. The man at the counter who helped us said the guy who does them was in the back and that he's been doing it a long time. You could tell! If we had a cool cabin, or even a secure front porch, I would've tried to haggle the price down ad brought one of the cuties home with me! read more

What a great place. In the traffic snarl of chain requirements as we approached the summit, we were running out of range in our electric car and were thankful Strawberry Station had an EVGo charger. However, we quickly learned that the charger wasn't compatible with our car so we resolved that we _should_ be ok on range. We then asked if he was ok if we stayed in the (otherwise unused EVGo) parking spot in his lot to put on our chains and he could have easily said no, as part of his business was installing chains on nights like these...but he was clear that his lot would be the safest place for us to do so and allowed us to stay. Long story short the chains we had were a tangled mess and the borrowed pair I had test fit last spring on my driveway went on much smoother, I gave up and got in his line for installation. He not only installed them but showed me how to install them myself correctly and some tricks to make the installation and removal more simple. At this point we had lost more range waiting in line and he invited us to charge on his private L2 charger that he uses for his own electric car. This made for a significant reduction in range anxiety in the car while we bought and shared beers with him and his staff after he'd closed. He also mentioned he had a CHAdeMO adapter for charging our make of car, but it wouldn't work with our model. This is not a cheap charger and he's bought it expressly for the number of cars that need it on the hill. After a bit of research while in Tahoe we found that it was compatible with our model we stopped on the way home to test it to confirm the internets, and it worked. So if you're having range anxiety as you approach the summit on Hwy50, Strawberry Station General Store has you covered for power and a warm friendly place while charging. And they are fast and efficient in getting chains on when you need them. read more
