Brent at the Carson City Blue Zone is an absolute rock star. I addition to being kind and helpful he is amazingly knowledgeable. My wife bought new boots, not at this store, and had problems with the fit. Brent bent over backwards to help her out and after several adjustments over multiple visits they now fit her perfectly. He is one of those boot fitting geniuses, that the Tahoe area needs. I have talked to him multiple times about skis and bindings and he really knows his stuff. Prior to the 2024/2025 Season, I had not skied for maybe 25 years? I don't remember why I stopped this personally enjoyable sport, other that family and professional obligations probably filled up the timescape. After moving to Genoa in late 2020, it took awhile to direct my attention to skiing in general and Heavenly in particular. That happened through a combination of conversations with friends, a good deal on an EPIC Tahoe Value Pass, and realizing that it was about 20 minutes from the House to Heavenly's Boulder Lodge Parking. As far as the Skis, bindings, and boots went, I opted for a season-long rental package through BlueZone Sports in Carson City. I had to buy the poles separately and I already had Helmet, Goggles, and Ski Bib in hand. I ended up with Fischer RC Fire (165) skis with RS9 bindings, and Dalbello Vantage 4F Boots. Looking back on the season, I think that was a good combination, lacking any frame of reference to what might have been better. I went out to Heavenly 8 times during the season, which wasn't a lot, but was a good start, largely on groomed Blue slopes. I'll definitely be out next year and probably with purchased equipment. The BlueZone Sports shop at Lake Tahoe has a Labor Day sale for previous model skis and demos, so we'll see what happens. I was happy with the service that BlueZone provided at both the beginning and end of the ski season. I particularly appreciated the patience shown to this "old guy" as he initially ventured forth and then finished up with a great deal of Alpine satisfaction. read more

Went in recently and bought an ice chest. Took it home and set it in the garage. Couple of days later, when going to put it away, I noticed the lid would not stay open. Stopped by the store and tested another lid on the same model. Stayed open. Asked the four young men standing around the counter if I could bring mine back and exchange it for one in which the lid stayed open. Was told I could. The morning I took mine in to exchange it, there was an older gentleman at the desk. Black hat and black shirt. Once he acknowledged me, which took a while, I explained what was going on. His response, "And?" Wow. He went over and checked one out and found it wouldn't stay open. Basically, told me that's how they are. Not sure about most people, but I have never bought an ice chest in which the lid won't stay open allowing you to load it with both hands. I asked for and received a refund. Seemed this fellow didn't care about my business at all. I was in not a couple of weeks before and had a great experience with a young employee who helped me pick out some running shoes. The older gentlemen obviously doesn't want my business, so I will take it elsewhere in the future. We are surrounded by multiple outdoor recreational opportunities in this area. I was ready to spend more money at this place. That is until I was shown how important I really am. PS, I have seen that reps from the store respond to the negative reviews. My neighbor and I made the trek over for equipment for his bicycle. He's a serious cyclist so I won't elaborate on the details. Point being you won't find these tools and supplies at most stores in the area. He admits that in the past he was forced to go to Reno prior to finding this outfit. It's a massive building filled with top of the line gear. I was impressed with the great service and attention to detail. They spoke his "language" and knew exactly what he needed to do the job. Like a local hardware store expert for bikes. I didn't know these stores are all locally owned. They hire employees that are industry specialists or Tahoe experienced "adventurers" with a love for the area's outdoors. My neighbor also conveyed that their prices are very competitive with the national stores. That with the proximity make this (for him) a win-win. BlueZone is the best sports shop I've ever entered! Melissa helped me order a new Pivot bike for myself and a year later a new bike for each of my sons. She was helpful, kind, easy work with and kept me updated throughout the process. Don in the bike shop built up the bikes and has been so great to work with. I've taken my bike in for tune ups and he also took care of the warranty on a cracked wheel for me. He is very knowledgeable, super responsive and always happy to help. Don is also passionate about backcountry skiing and helped me get the gear I needed to get started this winter. I also purchased a wakeboarding vest from BlueZone that I had been searching for online. I liked that I could try on the vest before purchasing to check sizing. These are very expensive Lange boots bought at another company. I could not be happier with the customer service, expertise and professionalism I received. Not at BlueZone Carson City. Don C assisted me right away, he gave me nothing but respect and kindness. He so obviously has a passion for his job and has a fantastic customer service attitude. He got me exactly the spinning shoes I needed, asked me about cleats and when I didn't know what I needed, he called the place I take my classes at to find out!! Straight from his own phone!! As a retail store owner, customers are our number 1 priority and that is EXACTLY how I felt I was being treated. He showed me the correct cleats, installed them on my shoes and explained everything he was doing. When all was said and done, he gave me his card and encouraged me to text him with any questions. After 20 years on a wheel set on my road bike they started making noise. I figured they could be repaired but opted to replace them with new. I went to Blue Zone and spoke with Deana Davis the store manager and she directed me to Shawn Scott, bike and ski mechanic. Shawn had worked on my equipment before so this made me happy. Shawn helped me choose a wheel set that suited MY needs and gave honest evaluation of available products without bad mouthing any products. Blue Zone also did the install and transfer of tires, tubes and cassett for a fair price and the work was completed when they said it would be. Oh man, I wish I could remember the gentleman who helped me. I think he's a supervisor and maybe name Daniel. He was awesome. I always buy my snow boots online because they are so much cheaper. However, this year my boa is failing and I told my hubby I wanted a new pair. He chose blue zone for it. My feet are getting bigger due to my pregnancy so I wanted to get a bigger size. Submitted a complaint regarding Blue Zone Carson City ski shop screwing up 3 pairs of my skis. I paid for major tunes on all 3 and 2 of the pairs were unskiable. After a couple weeks I got one call from Brett/Brent. Returned call two times and had to leave voice mail. Almost two weeks later, no return call from customer service. Decided it was finally time to replace my ancient skis after talking to Jacob last week and Brett today. Brett came up with just the right package for me and made an offer I just couldn't refuse. Great fit, great service, reasonable pricing. My son and I were ready for some new equipment and we ended up working with boot fit techs at Truckee and South Lake. Excellent job.
