They had the banner for best brunch 2025 hanging nicely. Diane, the owner, put us on the waitlist and also showed us to our table. Very warm welcome! We started off with coffee. Hubby had the Chorizo Quesadilla and enjoyed it very much. The portion was enough for 2 meals. Sure enough, he took half home. I had the Coconut French Toast, the small portion. Even though it's supposed to be small, I still left some on my plate. Love the fresh sliced bananas with it! There are more menu items we would love to try. Just need to come back and visit again!

To make the experience even better, the owner, Diane, actually came by our table to introduce herself. It's always really nice to see an owner who is that attentive to her customers and invested in the dining experience. For my meal, I ordered the breakfast burrito which, as you can see from the photo, comes wrapped in a great spinach tortilla and served with sour cream, and salsa. It was loaded with egg, chorizo, green and red peppers, onions, and pepper jack cheese. I was a bit surprised, though, because even with so many distinct, flavorful ingredients packed inside, those flavors didn't quite come through. The pepper jack cheese was just a little too heavy-handed and ended up overpowering everything else in the burrito. The other minor issue was that I had specifically ordered hashbrowns with my meal, but I was served the breakfast potatoes instead. They were still perfectly crisp and seasoned well, but just wasn't exactly what I asked for. Overall, the atmosphere and the service made it a great experience, but I just wish the burrito had a better balance with less cheese, and that the sides hadn't gotten mixed up. I'd definitely give them another shot, though!

The shop was empty & we got to chat with the staff, played chess, ate our sandwiches and drank our coffees. Pros: - lots of parking - lots of small vendor gems & plants - great food, drinks, & service Must get: - Whole Garden Sandwich w/ Turkey - Maui Wowie was my choice. It kind of felt like we were in Hawaii but there's snow outside the window.. haha - lemonade w/ matcha foam was good! (Doesn't compare to the Bay buttt for Tahoe? It's solid!)

First, this is a coffee and Kava lounge. I don't know much about Kava, so I can only speak to the coffee. They do also have some food, but I am not sure how that works since there was only a single employee when we visited. Maybe only certain hours? Maybe it just takes some time? Not sure, we skipped food on this visit. We ordered one of their signature matcha drinks and a cold brew. The single employee was friendly and doing the best she could, but it got quite busy and I could tell she was struggling to keep up. The prices at the register were $0.25-$0.75 higher than what was listed on the menu board. Always a bit annoying... The matcha was good, the foam texture is very cool, however the cup was more ice than beverage. The cold brew was fine, nothing special but still tasty. I liked the vibes a lot when I walked in here. It's filled with plants and natural light, but then I looked around a bit more and the space just felt messy. There was stuff everywhere, boxes laying on the ground, and generally just a lot of clutter in the space. Overall, I think there are better coffee spots in South Lake Tahoe. If you're looking for Kava, give this place a go, but for coffee I would steer you somewhere else.

On a Sunday morning, the location was empty except for the two of us. The interior had seating with books and items for sale to peruse. There was also some seating outside which would be nice for the warmer weather. The employees were friendly and we could tell that our drinks were made with care. We both really enjoyed our drinks and would make a point to visit again and recommend to our friends and family when they're in the area.

The owners of this super cute and thoughtfully decorated shop live and breath coffee & Chai culture, and they just so happen to actually be great people (some of the coolest I've met in life, really) & make BOMB drinks. First of all.. the quality of everything is there 2nd- they actually know how to balance things out, compliment, & highlight flavors and ingredients in a way that strike notes. You take a sip and you immediately know that yes - this is a good drink. And as soon as you leave the shop and start dreading the moment of your last sip, you'll know you've found one of your favorite coffee shops. Major points for making their own chai, carrying pastries (these are well balanced and not overly sweet as well) & smoothies, and supplying the cutest merchandise around. Super happy to support this neat little local shop owned by the coolest people who pour their hearts out on this coffee shop. Shout outs to Autumn & Connor. Thanks for leading the way! Absolutely love this little gem in South Lake Tahoe!…read more Stumbled upon The Free Bird (aka Free Bird Chai) on a snowy day in Tahoe, and it was exactly the cozy, healthy spot I needed. This adorable green cabin-like cafe with the "Goodness on the Fly" vibe is packed with charm--wooden interiors, string lights, and the friendliest staff behind a shiny espresso machine. I grabbed two superfood smoothies: a thick, vibrant purple acai-based one (probably the Acai or Goddess--loaded with berries and superfoods) and a rich chocolatey Cacao Bliss. Both were incredibly flavorful, not too sweet, and packed with organic ingredients like spirulina, hemp, and goji. Perfect post-ski fuel! The menu has tons of options--simple fruit smoothies, green machines, power greens, plus homemade chais (I've heard the dirty chai is legendary) and wellness lattes with mushrooms or adaptogens. It's tiny, so grab-and-go is the way, but everything feels fresh and thoughtfully made. Prices are fair for the quality in Tahoe. If you're craving organic, nourishing drinks and bites (bagels, pastries, bowls), this is a must-stop. Already planning my next visit--highly recommend!

I love a good açaí bowl but I needed something that didn't require a spoon lol So I ordered a plain bagel with cream cheese and one of their seasonal drinks, a 12oz iced strawberry shortcake latte with soy milk. I have to say; I thought my drink was good and the bagel itself was nice and crispy. Service- the lady that took my order was nice. The one thing I can say because it's a small little shop, it can feel a little overwhelming with the amount of people, and trying to see what's on the menu. Other than that, it's a solid small cafe shop.
