Stray Dog vegetarian calzone. Artichokes, tomatoes and vegetables in a ranch sauce baked in a crust

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Small bar setting serving good, simple food In a warm ambience.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I particularly like and come for their vegetarian calzone, although their primary focus is as a social bar. Service is quick and friendly.

This is a townie bar that has a couple dog-friendly tables out front on the sidewalk. Depending on the time of day, you will see all sorts of locals cruising the street and revving their engines as they go by. The food is actually pretty good (however they were out of pizza dough). The pizza must be good because a couple people went in a D came BA K out immediately when they found out there was no dough tonight. A couple drunk guys came out at one point and stumbled to their friend's car. One guy was on the phone and when he ended his call, he spiked it in the middle of the street like he had just caught the game-winning touchdown. Entertainment!

The Stray Dog Pub and Cafe is a fun little divert bar tucked in between a few other shops. Decent selection of beers on tap and a full bar. Above average bar menu with good food. Service was quick and polite.

LOVE this bar! We stopped by on a trip to Elko recently and it was great. The service from the bartender was awesome and the food was soooooo good! We had poutine and sliders and both were delicious. Will stop back by next time we go to Elko!

Passing threw town we decided to stop for lunch. We had the toasties which were great and our waitress/bartender really hustled.

The bartender was friendly and prompt with service. There appeared to be many locals there. We were seated promptly for dinner. It took a bit for our server to arrive to our table, but once there she was friendly and informative. We started with the spring rolls. They were mushy on the inside. It appeared they were wrapped with dumpling wrappers that were soft on the inside and crunchy on the outside. We didn't prefer the texture. Hubby didn't like the sauce served with them but I did. We wouldn't order them again. We chose a spinach salad as the side to our entrees. It was fresh but overdressed. It became soggy very quickly. Hubby had the braised lamb shank special. He said it was fall off the bone tender. There were parts of it on the outside though that were too hard to chew, as if those parts had been outside of the braising liquid too long. The polenta was grainy and undercooked. Polenta should be smooth and silky. The sauce was too salty. I had the Basque Pasta. I asked the waitress if the mussels were fresh and she told me they were frozen. I never should have ordered the dish. The mussels were so dry and fishy tasting I couldn't eat them, and I love mussels. I even bit down on a couple of pieces of broken mussel shells. There was hardly any sauce so the noodles were dry as well. The cheese on top wasn't melted. I barely touched my dish. The servers, including ours, were working very hard and seemed to be providing everyone with great service. I'm giving 3 stars because of the food. I know it's a local fave, but we won't be back.

I will say, our service was great and super friendly. Restaurant was clean and we got a table quickly. But the food omg. Not good. I got a taco salad and it was so dry?!?? I've never thought of a taco salad as being wet or dry but I couldn't explain it. It was hard to eat. I got sour cream, Guac and salsa with it but it was still so dry. Bizarre.... My husband got the French dip and also didn't like it. Said it also had no flavor and was over cooked. The fries were hard as a rock and came in a grease puddle. Must have been the last fries of the bunch before new ones were made but how did the kitchen feel comfortable sending them out they were horrid.... We also got the kids Mac, the kids meals do come with a lot of food so that was nice.

From the lighthearted good energy country decor with bright color mixed with softer grays, there were things like bicycle on wall greeting us with the purpose of dreez. "FOOD " with the bike wheels forming the OO's, a cute family portrait of the namesake of this cafe, Dreez and a sign promoting strawberry lemonade mimosas! Next our server gave us a warm welcome and helped make decisions that involved a food sensitivity. And I haven't even got to the yummy food yet. My husband had the smaller of the two complete American breakfasts offered and it was quite a generous portion. A highlight was the sausage patties. I chose the half and half Benedict which was perfect because I couldn't decide between the two. I selected that one while still looking at the yelp app in my hotel room and it did not disappoint! Each half was huge. And the presentation was beautiful too. Wish I'd taken a picture! A specialty of Dreez' is the chili infused hash browns. They were great and full of flavor and had a delightful mouth feel. A bit of light crispy and just enough creaminess from the cheese and cream in them for balance. Though our super sweet and friendly server did tastefully warn against having them four days in a row for comfort sake, they were not overly spicy. Great flavors! I ordered their Greek Goddess omelet, which traditionally comes with sausage, but I subbed in shrimp instead and WOW this is my new favorite omelet! The combination of the feta, sundried tomatoes, and pesto delivered a lot zest and flavor in each bite. Please keep this item on the menu forever! I opted for a side of the country potatoes with my omelet, and was disappointed when they came out covered in bacon and cheese, as nowhere on the menu did it say they came with bacon and cheese. Just a small inconvenience, and it won't change the fact that this is our new go-to breakfast spot when we pass through again in the future.
