The…read moreschool is highly unorganized, their text selections and curricula are at least a year or two behind industry standards, and a couple of professors are so antagonistic towards students that it hinders the learning process. But if you look past that and really throw yourself into your studies, it can work itself out. As far as the staff, some there are better suited as McDonald's cashiers than admin/staff at a technical school. It's not 100% terrible, however. There are also a few administrators there who are actually pretty cool. There are 3 professors there whom I'll never forget and to whom I'll always be grateful. It is because of those 3 people this school earned the extra star. Overall, if it is quality which you seek, then there are other schools in the metro that will give you more for your money. I wish I'd have done more research... but hopefully others will be able to learn from my unfortunate mistake.

I never post reviews, but must say if you are looking for a real education from someone who genuinely cares and knows her job, Mrs. Thompson is the person to go to. She is truely an amazing instructor & person. Going through life changes, I decided to change careers. Although I was a bit concerned about learning something new later in life, this quickly changed. I was fortunate enough to be in Mrs. Thompson class. She has a special gift for teaching that very few people exhibit. Never once did I feel dumb or small for incorrectly doing something. Mrs.Thompson challenges you in a way that makes you strive to be the best at what you do. Her teaching technique is hands on, hands on, hands on. You will do, be the best, & she will not accept anything less of you. She is very direct but fun! Mrs. Thompson is amazing in explaining how things are done & not done. It's so crazy that you have to get it on the record as I have. At first you give them grace because they are a school. They'll even ask for grace. But after months of experiencing what can only be described as a wild goose chase of chaos, you hit a point where you have to say, "NO! This is no longer about grace". This is about fundamental structural and organizational failure. What I experienced went far beyond minor mistakes or student learning curves. And after speaking with a rep from the Barber and Beauty industry, it's clear that Georgia Career Instirute has systemic problems, not one-off oversights. The Georgia State Board of Cosmetology and Barbers require strict compliance with sanitation, infection control, client safety, supervision and operational protocols. This means at the very least, having fully functional sinks where gook is not coming out and making sure all sinks have continuous hot water. You can't wash relaxer out in cold water. But again, this is minor, however, it undermines sanitation, safety, and basic professional standards. Think about it. If a school can't reliably provide hot water, it signals a much larger breakdown in oversight, infrastructure and accountability. Again, this is minor. There are way bigger problems over here, and I'm certain if the State Board did a random visit and/or disguised as a client, this entire school would be shut down. I do NOT recommend this school under any circumstances and believe it should be fully dissolved to protect students, clients, and the integrity of the profession.

I went here many years back and returned recently for Alumni Weekend after 20 years out of Atlanta…read more I'm glad to hear that they actually have changed for the better from students, classmates who got into in leadership roles and recall those bad old days too well, staff members and so forth. I attended a number of events and was thrilled to hear the President say they weren't trying to exclude and alienate conservatives from the community + still teach critical thinking skills (one of the positive aspects of my time there). Gone are the good ol' boys and now diversity (including being a first generation student) actually seems to be considered and appreciated where that wasn't my experience. The bad old days were so bad I had nothing to do with the school for about 10 years due to the presence and protection towards a group I found loathsome (and would be completely inappropriate in our modern times just as it was 20 years ago). Since my most recent visit, I can say with pride that I went to this school and am proud of my classmates for stepping up and being change so others don't have to go through what I'm sure some of them did.
