Frustrating and Disorganized Experience…read more Freshman orientation and move-in day were both a mess. Students stood in line for over 7 hours and still didn't get clearance to move in. For a school with such a small student body, this should never happen -- especially when families have spent months preparing and confirming everything in advance. The lack of organization is unacceptable. Something as simple as processing students in alphabetical order could fix most of these issues. Staff also need to return calls and respond to emails -- basic communication could have prevented much of the chaos. This is a historic school with great potential, but first impressions matter. Unfortunately, this experience made many parents and students question the quality of the education and overall administration.

I have an ex-girlfriend who works here and a sort of current girlfriend who goes here, so I'm intrinsically connected to this University. I last hung out on campus just a few weeks ago and it is as friendly and warm as always. Carolina girls always are, and the boys are pretty cool too. One of the coolest things about it is that it's close - walkably so - to Raleigh, but also close to Cary and Morrisville and Chapel Hill and Durham, all of which have some real food gems in them. So as long as you have a car you can eat really well at this college. And not too expensively either. Did I mention how much I like the girls here.

The hall where the play was performed is majestic, historic and is the centerpiece of campus. However, as with older buildings, there are steps to climb and bathrooms were located on another floor. But, an elevator is available if needed. Small and intimate setting inside Theatre, which was set up with seating on three sides. No bad seat in the place. No concession stands either. Thanks to Peace University for hosting RLT as they undergo renovations. Peace also has offers performances done by their students. I look forward to returning to this beautiful campus in the heart of Raleigh.

My only complaints would be that there isn't a whole of space to study. The library is quite small, and many people come to study/work on projects together, so it's a bit noisy. Also, this is not a high tech atmosphere. If you're looking for unlimited Macs and fancy lecture halls/seating, I suggest you go elsewhere. In addition, this is not a place that is recognized for prestigious research or anything. But don't get me wrong, these people do great work for their students and community. As a grad student, I'd have to say, their tuition is so, so worth it. Very affordable and they also offer assistantships. Reaching out and making a difference here is easy if you commit to it. Highly recommend!

Great experience at NC State as a parent of an undergrad. Their internet presence is…read morewell-maintained, with an easy to understand website for parents, the Brickyard, regarding all things from payments to newsletters. The campus is exactly what you'd expect in the south, the classic and conservative layout with old red brick buildings lining the original main streets of campus. There are iconic landmarks throughout campus known by the students and the Belltower, of course. There are also updated and extremely modern buildings spanning the large footprint of this growing campus in downtown Raleigh. The campus is kept very clean and there are student, faculty and paid parking lots for visitors throughout. There are apps available for the difference activities and needs on campus, including a safety watch app for parents so they can remain in the know about happenings, even if they're out of state. The campus is very walkable and a lot of students walk to Hillsborough, a road defining one of the edges of campus. There's plenty to eat and shop for on this road. There are several parks on campus and near campus. There are also, I think, around seven gyms across campus, a few of which are designed, especially for the college athletes. Cafeterias also numerous and spread across campus and students can discover their favorite while studying on campus. My son stayed in a pretty traditional older dorm for four years as RA and had a pleasant time. The facilities were a little old, but he had all of his basics. There was a men's and women's restroom on his floor, a laundry room, usually a community kitchen, and a sink and closet in his dorm along with electrical hook ups for his computer and everything else needed. Desk and bed provided as well. There's a Costco in a Trader Joe's in town nearby that you could drive or take the bus to. Campus also had its own bus line for students.

Fun Fact: In 1983, when Coach Jim Valvano led the men's basketball team to a very unlikely win in the NCAA Championship, the "Wolfpack" became registered and it's logos became federally licensed trademarks. Also, alumni can get a gym membership for a fee each month. Having had a few college tours under my belt thanks to my son and his journey to find his perfect fit for higher education, we went on the Admitted Student Tour at NC State! It was well organized, informative and walking around that campus, my son just seemed at home. The one thing I can say about NC State is there are a lot of bricks! The gym is outrageously big and has a rock climbing wall.

A lot of the females students cared more about their weaves, how many boys could look at them and their outfits more than their education. A lot of students were from the hood, but many of them refused to leave their hood and high school ways behind. Many fights broke out of campus and there were times when the male students would disrespect the female students. The hood students from DC (And NJ too) thought that they were actually better than the students who were from NC, but yet they chose to attend school there, I guess they had no other choice, since St Aug was a second chance school. The DC students, especially the females thought they were the best dressed ones around. They mocked the fashion of the NC students daily. Many of the students had no respect for the professors, their peers or even themselves. The students would act downright disrespectful to the ladies during staged pageants/events by yelling out rude remarks. The food was served to students was below average and there were no kitchens in the dorms where students could cook meals. The professors and staff weren't too bad. However, St Augustine's University failed to link students with internships and jobs in their field of study, so many graduates were left with tons of debt and no good jobs. Many students complained about St Aug mismanaging their financial aid/refund checks. Some of the students seemed illiterate as well. Colorism, STDS, and down low behavior among the male students was sickening. This is NOT the HBCU experience you would see on TV.

I'm taking graduate classes now but my transcript from NC State had more weight than my BFA, which I got from a private art school.
