Cool Hand Lu says: Good food and comfortable beds made a nice stay. Midway between driving from Brooklyn to Kentucky, we stopped at the The Casselman Inn for the night, The original inn served as the where we checked in and also where we ate. The actual rooms were a very short walk behind the main building. The short walk is not without some scenery, as there is a nice wooden bridge with benches that crosses a little winding stream that runs the length of the motel unit. I'm sorry I didn't just sit and listen to the water run. My father and I stayed in the inn for one night driving down and one night driving back. The rooms we had on our first night were pretty much the same as the rooms we had on the second. Upon entering, the rooms were clean and neat which I was happy to see. After hearing so many hotel horror stories I purchased a small black light for just these moments. I was happy to see that the bed and the bathroom were both clean with no disturbing or confusing stains. The television in the first room we had were old cathode-ray TVs which obviously in this time don't give the greatest picture anymore. The remote control also was a pain to use as the buttons were unresponsive at times. The second room had flat screen TVs and working remotes which made a huge difference. The bathrooms were as expected and I didn't have any issues with water pressure, hot water or toilet malfunctions. Understandably this isn't the Bellagio and they aren't making nearly as much money but the washcloths and towels were a bit stiff and scratchy. Some fabric softener would have been greatly appreciated. The most disappointing aspect of the room was that there are not nearly enough outlets there as I would have hoped and expected. There wasn't even an outlet next to the bed, which didn't make much sense to me. The food was cool. The first night I had the salmon cakes and my father had chicken. He mentioned to our server that his food was unfortunately a bit cold. The apple butter was both of our favorites though. I unfortunately forgot to buy a jar. We missed dinner the second night cause we forgot they closed the kitchen at 7:00. That was a bit surprising... The breakfast was the better of the two meals. I had the french toast the first night and eggs the second. My father had the vegetable omelette both times. The coffee was good and thankfully they kept it coming. All in all, we had a nice stay. It was a nice break from the drive and I had a nice rest. I'm sure on the next road trip we'll stay there again. Just make sure to bring an extension cord or two to make life a little easier.

Not sure if they are slipping, as another writer found his recent experience boring. I had the baked cod with bread crumbs and mashed potatoes (no gravy). Side salad was a bit small but adequate. Mashed potatoes were about a half cup, probably small by usual restaurant standards. Baked cod likely was frozen. There were too many bread crumbs, and they were drenched in butter for flavor, but so much so that they were soggy. I had a good rib eye steak last time so I think I will stick with plain and simple if I return. I am watching what I eat and most of the stuff as presented would have to be modified. So maybe that's the key. Tell them exactly what you want, and how you want it prepared.

    French Toast (wheat bread)

So glad we didn't pass by this place again! We decided to try a different place on our drive back home, and so glad we did. Super good French Toast (I got wheat bread). It was eggy and so satisfying. My husband did poached eggs and buckwheat pancakes. He said his eggs were poached to perfection. He tried apple butter along with the pure maple syrup on his pancakes and loved it. The coffee was good and hot. The staff was super friendly and overall the vibe was nice. We will be back.

The buffet in the restaurant is definitely not worth the money for the quality and taste of the food.

The breakfast ends at 9:30 which is understandable. i got there at 9:25, at 9:32 my waffle timer went off. The breakfast employee came out moving lightning speed shutting things down, I had the cup in my hand she had switched off the juice machine I said can u flip it back on so I can get my child some juice. She said no. We were standing right beside it I had my kids cup in my hand. I asked the desk for a manager they said don't bother he wants it that way. (this isn't either lady's fault, I'm told the manager watches camera's and she gets yelled at if she does any differently). What a hideous representation of customer service. To take 2 seconds at 9:32 for me to get juice for my child. I understand breakfast ends at 930 but I got there before that and was cooking a waffle. It was so rude and cold and unnecessary. We have all worked for a bully cheap skate owner/manager like this before. For the sake of dignity please avoid this hotel. On top of that it smelled like a sewer in the lobby the whole time I was here. The place is old and dilapidated and dingy. Don't give buisness to an owner who treats customers this way. Better for them to go out of business and give your money to the motels that are gracious or at least respectful (and don't smell like poop!)

I told her my whole body could be covered in transmittable disease, and I don't even know. I understand the towels get washed by 3rd party services but someone is at least folding them and putting it up for use. Please take care to remove these from customer use, inspect them first!! Change your cleaning company!!! Also the air con/vent is super loud, despite me putting it on auto where it goes on and off, it comes on super loud, very much aware of it all throughout the night.

My two sisters and I (and our significant others) came to celebrate a milestone birthday and were beyond impressed with this place. The ambiance is fantastic! The courtyard is beautiful as well as the patio in the back. The decorating that Kitty has done throughout the inside of the house is really beautiful. And as David says, "We want to concentrate on two things: The bed, and the breakfast." And that is exactly what they have done here. Each evening, David will come to offer your breakfast choices for the following morning. And it's not just bacon and eggs people... these are GOURMET offerings all made fresh on site using fresh ingredients. We had a choice of a peach cobbler oatmeal that had peaches from the tree in the backyard even and it was delicious! There was also one addition that just made my stay even more superb... a little dog named "Jack" and he is the most precious (smiling) doggie that I have ever seen! So stinkin' CUTE! Anyway... if you are ever in the area (checking out Frank Lloyd Wright's work) you should definitely give this place a shot. They are phenomenal! Thank you David and Kitty! I hope we get to come back again soon. :)

With one minor exception everything in the room worked and check in was a breeze. The location is right off of 68 and it's quick and easy to anything in Cumberland. What didn't work: Contrary to a few other Yelpers, IME, if you're in a room facing 68 you can definitely pick up some traffic noise from the highway especially when the 18-wheeler of your choice engages their Jake Break. If that bothers you in the least, try to get on the other side of the building. The one thing in the room would be the bathroom door, aka the sliding barn door, which is beginning to rust at the rolling wheels and become difficult to open & close. You really needed to put your back into giving it a good shove in either direction. The breakfast also needed some love as the oatmeal had the consistency of a bisque and the sausage links looked like they were cooked on Mercury. No issues with things not being available, more like a few of the things that were available were not rendered correctly. Overall, this is good one with only a few minor things that wouldn't deter us from a making a return trip if ever in the area in the future.

Might even be the highlight of the hotel. The pool and workout room were rather disappointing. The pool was so cold thst we only stayed in for 10 minutes. There were also little black spots floating in it. Not enough to cause concern, but still strange. The workout room was large and had 3 different machines (treadmill, elliptical, and bike) along with freeweights, a bosu ball, and a foam roller. There is a main TV and smaller tvs on each machine. I couldn't get any of them to work so I stopped by the front desk. According to the worker, none of the smaller tvs work, only the main TV.
