Alas, I am still yet to fulfill that yearning for a taste of home. When I heard of Dognation's opening I was thrilled. Tiny, obscure Melb charm serving an American menu? Glory be! Sadly, my radar was a bit off on that one. Let me be clear: DogNation is not American, nor do they serve anything that could be called such by any stretch of the imagination. Preconceptions aside, DogNation serves sausages with a global twist. You can get a Mexican dog smothered in chili con carne, an Aussie dog complete with beetroot relish, an English dog with peas and mash.... While I very much appreciate the concept, the delivery just isn't there. I have tried so hard to like this place, but it's really just. not. good. The dogs are HUGE, messy, and rather flavorless. To hide this, they are quite literally dripping with toppings. I'd recommend you take a seat to attempt eating these monsters, but with a grand total of two chairs to DogNation's name it's not likely you'll be able to. I wanted to love you, DogNation, but your dogs just aren't doing it.

Mmmm, I honestly didn't know what to make of this place…read more I saw young faces everywhere, in fact, too young. Faces that made me second guess my decision to come here and think maybe I shouldn't be hanging out here where kids who just graduated from high school flock to. It's random inside, like not even a surprising random, kinda dingy, kinda it is what it is random. The pizza board had a lot to choose from, but no, I don't recommend going there late to grab a pizza. There's too much of a ready to party it up scene going on, your cheap pizza could get lost along the way. Bartenders came across very abrupt, not rude, but if you ask for a jack and water, that's exactly what you'll get, jack in a cup, and water separately in a cup. Drinks are cheap. In trying out their flavored vodkas, I wasn't too impressed with any of them. I've had much better flavorful infused vodkas, but hey they were only $9 each. The Bubblegum wasn't great, the salted caramel should be paired to mix with something equally intriguing, and the apple pie one was average. After visiting and trying a few drinks and taking it all in, I was over it.

I'm torn about how to rate Bimbo Deluxe and I almost wish I could write two independent reviews:…read moreone for the food and one for the bar. I'd give the bar 4 stars and the food 3 stars. The bar has a cool divey atmosphere. The ground floor has a large bar and plenty of seating. Couches and sofas make up a large portion of the ground floor seating. There's also part of an aeroplane gracing the down-stairs area. The upstairs area features an outdoor bar and seating area decorated with a large mural. It's a nice place to sit in the evening, especially when the decorative lamps overhead are switched on. One of the draws of Bimbo's is the super-cheap pizza. At certain times of the day, they server dinner plate sized pizzas for $4! They're the thin-crust variety and there's a good selection to choose from. The pizzas I tried were okay but by no means outstanding. The friend I ate with claimed that they're usually better -- perhaps they were having an off night. Despite being a little disappointed by the pizza, I feel that Bimbo's is a venue that I'd be happy to return to in the future. And the pizzas had enough promise that I'd be willing to give them another chance. (Plus perhaps there's only so much you can expect for $4.)

We shared a Turkish borek, porchetta panini fr Rubens, and a char siu meat pie fr Amelies. They have a ton of prepared food options like baked goods, sausages, fried chicken, ethnic food, charcuterie and raw seafood. First of all, the borek was a nice starter. It had a lot of fillings, and made me want to go to Turkey. On the other hand, the pie was a bit disappointing. It was bland and the crust wasn't flaky. Lastly, the porchetta was fantastic. The pork was really tender and nicely seasoned. The crackling on top was genius. Regarding the ambiance, the grounds are massive. The food hall has prepared food on both ends, and fresh meat & seafood in the middle. A lot of people come w/ carts. All of the vendors were super nice. We even bought some bread, charcuterie and marinated octopus for later. I highly recommend QVM if you visit Melbourne. They have something for everybody.

Tried to go on our first evening in Melbourne, but unfortunately the place was closed due to a private function (Christmas party). Came back a few days later. The weather had changed so it was unfortunately not the sitting outside kind of weather we had hoped and what looked like Trunk was designed for. Decided that we would go to the diner side, instead of the Italian side. Walked in and what struck us immediately was the noise! We had our hearts set on trying this very cool little spot. We initially had to wait for some seats to be cleaned up, even though there was a number of open tables. Once seated our server(s) were very friendly and we had our food on the table in no time. I went for the burger and my wife went for the chili salad. My burger was ok, but the bun was such that it nearly disintegrated and I was left trying to eat a squished out mess. I tried my wife's meal and it was definitely very tasty. Overall, The food was good, but not fabulous, like I had hoped. Even though the place was only 1/2 full, the noise levels were such that we had to nearly yell at each other to be heard. The entire place is glass, hardwood floors and metal chair (which make a seriously loud noise when moved). This would have been a cool place to linger and chat, but unless you have a blowhorn that's just not possible. Out servers were very friendly and good. I think had we been able to sit outside this would have been a fabulous spot. I'll go back, as long as I can enjoy my meal outside.

My first time in I got the pharma burger and fries with the 'Mexican' sauce. Did not realize the fries or sorry chips would be such a large portion size! Crispy "chicken" on the inside. I've also tried their Melbourne hotdog and I was kind of freaking out because it tastes just like the hotdogs I remember eating as a kid!!! May be my new favorite menu item. Also, try the nuggets with sweet chili sauce. Just do it.

Offering tasty vegetarian and vegan fast-food options (similar to what you'd find at your local burger joint), LOTF has an amazing range of burgers and condiments for every type of non-meat eater out there. I have personally sampled everything on their menu over their years and have never had one complaint, LOTF is as good as it gets (for me, anyways). My personally favourite is their Chicken Burger and LOTF nuggets. One thing that no one can go past (even my devout meat-eating friends) is their chips (or fries, whatever you 'd like to call them). They have the most delectable chips i've ever tasted (with so many sauces too)! This is one of my favourite places to spend on my 'guilt' day!
