In 1 session he figured out what my issue was and was able to give me tips and solutions to target and resolve my issue. Me: I am a 31 year old active female. I am 5'6 140lbs. I play basketball 1-3x a week. I am an amateur lifter and I am a certified yoga teacher. I practice yoga 1-3x a week. I have more of an athletic build. Why did I go to him? I was having trouble squatting heavier weight +90 lbs (relative to my body weight 140 lbs)...Yet I could deadlift 150 lbs with way less trouble. I showed him a few body squats, then some squats with various weights. He quickly found the issue that I wasn't engaging my core/diaphragm area enough to stabilize. Me not doing that made other parts of my body compensate and thus me not being able to lift heavier weights i.e. +90 lbs for me. After he showed me how to engage my core properly I had a WAY easier time squatting and could feel my squat was largely stable and stronger. Compound exercises like squats and deadlifts require proper technique and form - these are things you can get from watching videos online without getting injured if you plan on really increasing your strength and your weights. Okay where do I even begin…read more A little bit of context about me, I'm a guy in his late 20s that has done light exercising and lifting sporadically throughout my adult life so far. I've never been able to really reach my fitness goals on my own even after countless hours of research of so many different workout regiments to gain mass. I decided this year that I was no longer going to create excuses and wanted to go all in with a trainer that I could trust to have my best interest in mind while still being able to push me past my limits. When I started looking around I went to a few different trainers but ultimately chose to work with Peter after a consultation, his friendly demeanor and seemingly endless knowledge that he's always eager to share gave me the confidence that I was choosing the right trainer. Over the past 3 months or so I've been working with Peter and the results have been substantial. He's given me a solid foundation on powerlifting and in the short time I've worked with him I've almost nearly doubled the weight I can push for each of the big 3 lifts. Dr Ryan was experienced in treating these issues and over a short period of time under his care, I was pain free and back to normal. On my first session, he asked many questions about my sciatica. The most impressive thing he asked was what type of activities that I'd like to get back to doing if I didn't have sciatica. For me I wanted my short term goals to being able to do yard work, to be able to carry my dog into the car so I could drive her to a park for our daily walks and to be able in 3 months to dance with my grandkids at a annual community festival. With my short term goals understood, Dr Ryan made sure his exercises were geared to allow me to achieve my short term goals! At each session, he gave me massages that helped relieve my stiffness and his stretching and strength exercises during my hour session helped me feel better each day. The 90 minute session includes acupuncture around my lower back, as well on hands and shoulders. While the needles are in, a deep tissue massage ensues, in my case focused on my full left leg and lower back. Kevin is crazy knowledgeable on pressure points, and conducts the deep tissue massage while some needles are still in place. Post surgery I went in for one session about every 2 to 3 weeks for a year and am convinced this commitment fast-tracked my recovery.
