From the moment we arrived, the front desk staff was rude and dismissive. The experience continued with both the day-shift and night-shift nurses, who made us feel as if we were a burden and inconvenience, as this wasn't a life threatening emergency but more of uncontrollable pain that needed urgent attention. When he rated his pain as a 10/10--the worst pain he had ever experienced--he was told that it could not possibly be a 10. At one point, he got up to use the bathroom, and the doctor and nurse made comments/jokes implying that because he was able to walk to the bathroom, there was no way his pain could actually be a 10 or as severe as he was reporting. I am a nurse myself, and I understand how difficult and stressful healthcare can be. I understand that ERs are busy and that pain management requires clinical judgment. However, I could not believe the way this patient was treated. Pain is subjective, and a patient's report of severe pain should not be mocked, belittled, or dismissed simply because they are able to walk. There was a complete lack of empathy and compassion. He eventually received a very strong medication, which understandably left him loopy and impaired. Despite this, the front desk staff gave him paperwork to complete. He filled it out incorrectly because of the effects of the medication, and instead of recognizing the situation, the staff became upset with him. What was most upsetting was watching him lie in the room helpless while the nurses would not come in to check on him. We never felt like anyone was truly listening to him or advocating for him. Basic compassion, professionalism, and respect should be shown. It is unacceptable to treat a patient who is visibly suffering this way. As a nurse, watching another patient be treated with such little empathy was honestly shocking. Every patient deserves to feel heard, believed, and cared for--especially when they are in distress, regardless for the reason(s) they came to the ER. I sincerely hope hospital leadership reviews this encounter and takes a serious look at how patients experiencing severe pain are being treated. No patient should leave an ER feeling like their suffering was an inconvenience or that they had to prove their pain was real.

Exceptional, professional, compassionate, caring and attentive in listening, understanding and executing exactly what was needed from information, treatment, progress, pain management and even the food and drink items. The Nurses and staff were amazing and attentive to all I required or wanted. The doctor visits are done thru video conference and were surprisingly better than if they would have come in person, the doctors did not seem rushed, very explanatory for my situation with time for my questions and concerns. I have not received any financial obligations at this time, so I cant comment on that side yet. But I will when it all catches up to me. They quickly realized they weren't equipped to care for his needs and transferred him to Christus across the street which worked out perfect because that's where we were headed for a referral from the VA.
