A great reason to shop local on the Danforth. Value oriented store with solid selection of bulk basics at low prices. Not a fancy place so yuppies will go elsewhere, but regular folks looking for regular basics will like the simple layout and simpler pricing. Was here to buy oat bran with my 74 year old mother, who lives in the area but had never been in the store. She only had a $20 bill to pay for $0.36 of oat bran (29cents/100g) and the kind young man at the register gave a great big smile and told her to just take it for FREE. Dear mum was so impressed that I know for sure she will be back for bulk goods & vitamins. What a nice, community-oriented place. I'd way rather give my business to them than to some large slick corporation, and I hope you do too. read more

Bad service! The cashier girl today was literally being paid to browse on her phone all day. I don't expect stellar service from this place but at least some minimal help. I suppose you can't always hire those who actually want to do their job. Cheaper prices but i guess you get what you pay for as it's also very dingy and disorganized. To be honest, I did not know the name of this place (until now). But it's good as it gets when it comes to bulk produce. I wondered in here on my way to Bulk Barn. It's a small shop and it is not that great in the "looks" department, but they have all the basic goods at GREAT PRICES and really, that's all I care about. Also, there are no labels for your items. One women inside seemed to be really disturbed by that and she kept going on about that in the store. However, if you don't mind the lack of product labels, then this shop is worth the visit before heading to many other more glamorous looking (& more expensive) health/bulk stores on the Danforth. read more

I didn't realize Strictly Bulk had more than one location until I happened upon this place en route to a big fat Greek dinner. Their other location (Bloor/Ossington) is nicer and seems to have much more helpful staff. Both times I've been in this one there were some really young (13-14?) girls working. Strictly Bulk is sort of like a downtown version of the "Bulk Barn". Lots of bulk bins filled with cheaply priced spices, grains, nuts, seeds, cereals, candies and all the other bulk products you can think of. This place focuses on nutritious stuff with not as much candy and junk food products. They also carry lots of organic brands of packaged food products and lots of ethnic food products. I don't like the store set up at this location, it's a bit cramped. You still get the same awesome low prices though. read more

When I lived at yonge and Eglinton, I'd save up all my bulk shopping for my trips to Kensington, where the prices are amazing. Now that I'm on the Danforth, I mostly just go to nearby Strictly Bulk. The prices are good and the selection is pretty awesome. They have an array of gluten-free flours, nuts, vegan chocolate chips, cheap compostable bags for dog/cat poop and green bin-ables, environmentally friendly cleaning products, and more. They carry different oils and many soy products (though no soygurt *sniff sniff*). For super foods (like cacao nibs), I'll still be going to Kensington where it's significantly cheaper. The staff seems friendly - it's always been university-age guys when I've been in there. Haven't had a lot of questions but other people were asking some and one of the guys, possibly the manager, was very knowledgeable both about what they carried and about items they didn't carry. Although they don't have a way to figure out the ingredients of all their items - a characteristic I personally think is essential in any bulk store - they manager is knowledgeable and found the boxes for products to look up ingredients for me on some items I asked for. Would still prefer to see ingredients listed on bins like they do at Bulk Barn though. I'll be going there later today to pick up some TVP and bouillon! read more

I love this place. The prices are excellent--especially compared to the surrounding stores in the area. They always have what I need, and on the very off chance that they don't, the staff addresses the issue and lets me know when it might be back in stock. The staff is nice and unpretentious--I realize from some of the other reviews that some people find them to be rude or unresponsive, but I don't agree. I have always had only positive experiences with the staff here, and I've been shopping here for over a decade. It's refreshing to not be hassled, especially if you're someone like me who takes their sweet-@$$ time browsing and planning their meals and snacks... if you have a question, simply approach them and kindly ask with a warm smile, and you'll receive a response. Just don't expect them to be grovelling at your feet... they're there to run the store and assist you (should you need it), NOT to kiss your @$$ and tell you how utterly wonderful it is to see you. I love their products but their very young staff are not very helpful, some arevery rude, they hardly even acknowledge me or say thank you when I check out! I saw them once cleaning the glass on the bins of dates using Windex and spraying near the food. When another customer questioned it and wondered why she wasn't using the more natural products (that they sell) the staff member just mumbled something under her breath but didn't even respond and kept spraying the chemicals. The store itself seems clean, but when you look in the front window all you can see if the back of their check out area which looks messy and dirty. They really should cover that mess up - not a great first impression of a food store! Other than that, I love to shop there because they have great products and low prices! read more

Don't be fooled by the exterior appearance of this store and forget bulk barn. If you're looking for bulk basics you'll find it all here and for much cheaper. They have a good selection of flours, including gluten free, spices and herbs, coffee, tea, nut butters and more. For gluten free people they have a good selection of other grocery items for cheaper prices than the big carrot. I buy all my almond milk here. When I was flirting with being a vegan this was my source for tofu and tempeh. They have goat milk and goat butter for those you you sensitize to cows. Protein powders are reasonably priced. They also have a great selection of "green" household cleaning products as toiletries. read more

Strictly Bulk's prices are cheaper than The Big Carrot which is a few intersections west of Strictly Bulk near Chester station. They don't have as many selections but I usually shop here first, and then if I need stuff I can't find here, I'll head over to The Big Carrot. I like shopping at Strictly Bulk more though read more

Shopping in this location this afternoon - came to front counter check out - 3 employees eating pizza and wings while cashing out customers - young woman at my cash finished off a chicken wing in front of me, licked her fingers, grazed her fingers over roll of paper towel next to her and proceeded to touch my food items - told her she should not be licking her fingers and then touching my food - said nothing, somewhat insolent - left, walking by window looked in and saw all three young kids laughing. Disgusting and insulting....shopping here for 25 yrs now and will not go back... Strictly Bulk, your employees should not be eating at front cash and certainly not licking fingers, their saliva all over our bags, which we then touch .... disgusting. read more

I haven't been in since Covid but I LOVE this place! It is a small store but well filled with many of the basics for cooking & baking, tea drinking and cleaning too. They have a nice selection of natural cleaners (one of the product lines that I always use - Nature Clean - a good cleaning set of products that don't test on animals - important to me, they are Canadian! and the products work well - and this store carries the entire line! It is hard to get even 1 or 2 of Nature Clean products in most "regular" stores). Also their prices are very good and their spices which I have purchased (before Covid) have been excellent - and as someone who has always been known for my food I know a little about quality! In fact, they have carried THE BEST curry powder mix that I have EVER found. I hope that they are still able to get these products as many businesses have been affected around the world by Covid. I have been so glad to have found this store & I am so glad that they are still in operation! (In fact, I am actually in need of a bunch of their products right now!) If you want a sparkly, roomy store with a lot of the baking extras ie. cookie cutters, sprinkles, confectionary display bags & boxes etc. this isn't the place to come to, but for the actual food ingredients (& cleaning up later), there really isn't any place better! -- It appears that a mistake has been made saying that I am from the U.S. instead of from right here in Toronto. My 5-star review really is for Strictly Bulk on the Danforth & not for any American store - just to make sure there is no confusion! read more

Excellent and cheap, high quality and honest. This Strictly Bulk is a bit smaller than some, but they pack a punch. There's a big advantage in shopping at this small outlet: it's well-run and the bins have high turnover. That means your grains, spices, and other items are FRESH. Take, for example, the spices: they are very high quality, pungent, and at the right moisture level. And, they provide clean spoons for you, so that you never inadvertently mix. There's a clear commitment to the environment and organics in this shop, which is well-done yet not pricey. Indeed, it's flat-out amazing how much food you can bring home from here with the change in your pocket. read more

I have been shopping at the Danforth location for a number of years now. Prices are often cheaper than your local grocery store (and way cheaper than other "boutique" health food stores), and can be made even more of a bargain by buying by the case (e.g. rice pasta, almond milk). It is not a one-stop shop, but it carries a wide range of items, some of which are hard to find elsewhere, and often at better prices. Staff are a little more laid back than I'd like, but they are generally helpful if you approach them. read more

This store has a great selection and great prices. I don't like how the serving scoops are left right in the bins of food - not very hygenic, but then most a lot of bulk places are like that. I agree that the staff can be rather surly - I had that experience today. I came in - it was snowy out, I cleaned my boots at the door since I know they prefer that, looked at the guy at the counter who glared at me. Then when I checked out, he wouldn't even look at me and I got this hostile vibe. I asked a question, and he barked at me, like he was in a really bad mood or something. Just a bad experience - I'd never had that experience there before - gave me a different feeling about that place. read more
