New York Piano Works - The action of the piano is a complicated machine... We can help!

I have two pianos that needed tuning and some key issues attended to. I called and the appointment…read morewas quickly made and arrived on time. My Young Chang baby grand had not been tuned in many years and also has a Pianocorder system installed back in the 70's. Chris fixed a couple of piano key issues and carefully tuned the piano. The action and sound is a pleasure to play and listen to. Chris had to leave to be on time for another appointment and later the same day returned to tune my Yamaha CP80 Electric stringed Grand Piano which had not been tuned since the '80's. Finally, both pianos function beautifully and bring their wonderful sounds back into my home. If you are looking for someone you can trust with your prized possessions you can depend on New York Piano Works to give you great service and value.

Sharing my review from Google - If you love your piano, this is the guy to go to!!…read moreMy baby grand piano is over 100 years old so I didn't think there was anything that could be done to improve how it sounds. It had been tuned before by someone else, and it sounded "ok" for awhile, but there were keys not responding, with some even sticking, and it just didn't have the responsiveness that made playing it enjoyable. And after having just been tuned, it didn't sound like anything more than an old "tinny" piano sound. So it sat for over a year not getting played. I lost interest because it was just "too hard" to play. After reminding myself that time passes whether we accomplish anything or not (let's not forget 2020), I called Scott to come look it over and see if I could find some enjoyment in playing again, with a piano that sounded better. He looked it over carefully, determined it could be tuned and serviced, and explained how all the little pieces worked, or didn't work, in my case! It was fascinating to see the inside workings! Scott went about dismantling it, showing me all that it needed, but discussing with me what could/should be done now vs. what could be done later down the road, like replacing the keys or refinishing. The result - a spectacularly sweet "voice" emerged out of MY piano that I never thought could happen from a piano this old! Who even knew that my piano had a distinct "voice"?? And the "action" of the keys was significantly improved! I couldn't believe it! I spent the whole next day in front of the piano practicing! If you are concerned about quality service, need an honest assessment, and really care about your piano, call Scott. He emailed appointment details and a reminder, and then a follow up "thank you" email, to check in, and he listed everything that he had done. While at the house, he explained clearly and thoroughly what he was accomplishing, and was very personable, even making friends with my cat, who seemed to want to be a part in the action! Bottom line: Scott can help you with your tuning requirements or really dig deep to making your specific piano everything you want it to be!

I can't imagine a better experience than buying a piano from Isaac at Prosper Pianos. I reached out…read moreon a whim after seeing a post about the business. Though we've wanted a piano for years, we had looked only casually before being struck by Isaac's philosophy: taking pianos and touching them up or even restoring them to sell to people across a wide range of budgets and skill levels. When I reached out, Isaac responded promptly, and we had a long conversation assessing what we were looking for in a piano. When we went to his shop, he explained the origin of the pianos he had and what made each different. He graciously let us try everything from a Baldwin spinet to a beautiful late-1800s Steinway (which he knew was NOT in our price range!). We ultimately settled on a warm Charles Walter upright, made by a smaller American company we hadn't been familiar with but that - - besides making great pianos - - has business values we appreciate as a bonus. The piano movers Isaac works with are excellent: they arrived promptly and carefully navigated the piano up several steps through a narrow entrance, in and out within fifteen minutes. Now we're beyond excited to have this beautiful piano sitting in our living room and highly recommend Isaac and Prosper Pianos.
