I contracted with them to move my elderly mom but one day before our scheduled move day my mom took very ill and ended up in intensive care at the hospital. I had to cancel the move altogether due to her health changes. The people at Don's were understanding, kind and easy to work with. They refunded all the money I paid towards the move and even asked how my mom was doing. I was so touched and impressed with them, especially Rose, Glen & Charles, that I would go to them again should we have to move and would tell anyone they would be in good & caring hands. read more

Organized a $1,500 move from a 2 bedroom to a house. Set the move up 2+ months in advance. Spoke with Tony about 3 times re: various things such as, updating the inventory list and date for move. Super unprofessional and unreliable. I had to call back because the new quote hadn't been sent to my email. Called and confirmed with Tony again and had the quote sent to my email and I signed it. No phone calls to confirm. Movers didn't show up the day of the move after getting the permits for no parking, arranging time off of work and family members to help. Don's was my first call to do a "military" move, I've not a regret. Super happy, super-duper grateful and just very appreciative of all the guys, from Dylan, Glenn, Manny, Snoop and the other guys whose names, I'm sorry, I don't recall. I could share horror stories from acquaintances who were somewhat haphazard in choosing businesses for their move pretty much by picking someone at random out of the Yellow Pages. I'm very glad to have been given a recommendation for Don's by relatives and also to have been able to see prior reviews. Now I get to pass it on! Setting up my move of a handful of large items was very easy: One phone call to arrange it and a second one less than half an hour later to confirm the estimate, which was very detailed. Moving day went without any problems at all. The movers arrived at the specified time, and they were quick to unload and set things up at the destination. A little more paperwork, and done! My movers were quite friendly and helpful as well. I had originally thought I was going to have to rely on a national moving company, but finding about one right here in Albany to do the job was great. read more

Quite unprofessional. Moved many things not on our list. Refused to move many things on the list such as the refrigerator, king size mattress, etc. This was supposed to be "pack and move; smooth moves just like you're our family". No way. The 3 movers they sent were so SLOW and kept calling their office for 10 minutes at a time. While everyone stood around. We had 2 locations to pick up from. When they arrived we had a parking challenge due to living in the city, even though we out no parking signs out for our move. So we rolled with the problems because they claimed to have no supervisor on site. Mom tipped them each at the end of the day. We assumed the office would take care of the challenges we were facing. Nope. This morning I called and was told to handle it ourselves because we weren't nice to the movers. On the contrary. My mother was nothing but kind as she asked them to keep it moving please. The rates were reasonable, they were extremely friendly and professional, and though they arrived a little late on a Friday evening (an earlier job had taken longer than anticipated through no fault of theirs) they gave us advance notice and we worked it out. I needed a small move done somewhat last minute, a bed and about 20 boxes - 15 miles. Several of the local movers were booked, but I managed to receive quotes from two local companies when I called Don's, one was a little too early for comfort and the other was pretty expensive for a small move. Don's had good yelp reviews and quoted me a reasonable price for the move, and were available two different days! One of those days was Memorial Day, and was quoted at normal prices. These factors led me to snap up Don's for my move. Four days pass, and this morning (Friday) I got a call from "the manager" at Don's stating that they would have to charge me an additional ~$300 because the move was happening on Memorial Day and encouraged me to seek other movers. They could care less what they had originally quoted me. They could care less that they had originally given me a choice between two different days, nor that it was probably too late to get a different mover. "The manager" wasn't even able to admit that he was at fault, constantly blaming his incompetent employee - with that knowledge, I sure am glad I didn't let them handle my belongings. I believe this exchange has shed some light on the type of business being run at Don's. It's worth reading the BBB exchange they had with someone else as well, they eventually resolved it but not without a bunch of kicking and screaming. read more

I can not recommend Don's moving and storage strongly enough. I needed to help my father with a fairly complicated move. He was downsizing, so we were going to move part of his household from Albany to New Hampshire and the rest cross country to Oakland, Ca. They came on time exactly as scheduled, did a great job packing everything up and were done very quickly and efficiently. The next day they delivered the New Hampshire shipment. They were polite, efficient and took great care with the furnishings and the property. They also arranged for the cross country shipment which was delivered with equal efficiency and care. They were very responsive leading up to the move date with all of my questions. Very reasonable pricing when compared to other moving companies during my search. On the actual move date they were on time and worked fast enough so that the final charge was below the quoted price! My ONLY issue (which is why 4 stars) is that they moved your belongings as is. they did not wrap any of the dressers or couches and as such there were a few nicks and dings. Nothing major and they do provide insurance but still a little annoying. I would just recommend making sure you protect everything, but other than that I would definitely recommend! read more

Called the police on them. They blocked my street, and would not move their truck. You'd think that movers would know that you cannot block a public street, but apparently they don't know or don't care, despite there being room for their truck. A very disappointing move with Dons Moving on 8/23/19. One of our new leather recliners got ripped and now they will not address the issue. Rick personally said he would take care of it but did not. The first day, 3 men came at 9 am and at 10 am took a one hour break. One guy came in after 30 minutes, the other two had to be called in after one hour. The next day five guys came and one of them was constantly on his cell phone. He had to be told twice to get off his cell phone. They forgot to empty two very important draws in the kitchen with pots and pans and also forgot to bring the snow blower. They told us not to empty the contents of the dresser and chest of drawers and that they would carry it straight up. But then they turned it sideways/upside down with the result that everything got stuck behind the drawers and the draws will not close and we cannot retrieve the stuff. They wasted a lot of boxes and packing paper which was not needed. Where they could have used one box, they used two or three. They wasted unnecessary paper packing used Tupperware and other stuff which would not break anyway. They also packed two TRASH cans full of TRASH!!! We still have unused packing paper and unused boxes lying around. They could have saved us at least 30% of the packaging material and 20% in time. read more

I read the good reviews about Don's moving and thought it was worth paying a little more for quality movers. I was completely wrong. I had ask for my fairly expensive items to be appropriately packaged or sealed which did not happen. Unfortunately, my furniture came with scratches, small stains and chipped wood. My art work and specified pieces of furniture were not packaged as requested. My hardwood floors were scratched. Oh yeah, and my bed collapsed in the middle of the night. I could tell fairly quickly after seeing everything piled in a bin such as my paintings (without packaging or bubble wrap) that the young gentlemen cared more about moving quickly instead of protecting my belongings which I explicitly asked for. Maybe there was poor communication between management and movers. I can't in my own good conscience ever recommend Don's after my move. My belongings were damaged and I have to pay to have my hardwood scratches repaired. Use this service at your own risk. read more

I contacted the office because I needed assistance moving into a new apartment. Glenn helped me out and gave me an accurate idea of both the cost associated with the job, and the process as a whole. On the day of the move, both gentlemen arrived promptly at the old apartment. They loaded my belongings into the truck, taking extra care with my more delicate pieces. It was also nice that they placed a carpet down so the floor stayed clean! We arrived at the new apartment, and all I had to do was unlock the door for them! They gently placed everything exactly where I wanted. This made unpacking and settling in so much easier. I will be using Don's for all my future moves. I would like to give a better review, but when it comes down to it, it's all about service and money. The movers I had were good and they were cool -- Dee and Cheese. I listed everything that was moving, but there were a few things I just forgot about like lamps or whatever. I was quoted 2 guys and a truck and it would take 3 hours and $345. Granted, the guys were careful and nothing got beat up, but they were slow. I was charged from the time they leave the office until they get back. I didn't realize that at the time and thought it was funny why I was putting 8:40 on a sheet when the time was really 9:10 and I only lived 7 miles from the office. Add onto that I helped the guys move some of the stuff, they left quite a bit of other stuff because it wasn't on the list, and I had a freight elevator that went from the first floor to the 2nd floor! Anyway, what was supposed to be $345 for 3 hours came out to be 5.5 hrs and $632. I didn't pay that amount as I called the office and worked a better price, but still, that's pretty ridiculous to be that far off in price. So, like I said earlier, I would like to give a better review because the guys were cool and careful, but the rest of the experience was thumbs down so I can't. read more

The person on the phone did not explain that I would have to pay for the time that it took them to drive the truck to my first house and from my second house. I'm not talking about the drive from one house to the next; I mean the half-hour it took them to drive from Don's and the half-hour it took them to drive back to Don's. That's an extra hour of time. Additionally, I told the man on the phone that I lived on the third floor, but this didn't seem to have been communicated to the men that arrived. These guys were awesome. Nick gave me a very fair estimate. Then Raph, Matt, Jeff, and Alex moved my wife and me from Albany, NY, to Springfield, MA. In Albany, we lived on a fourth-floor walk-up with no elevator. Unlike Charette Brothers, the guys who moved us from Syracuse to Albany, Don's Movers were real professionals. They were pleasant. Don's movers (David, Cheese and Snoop) moved us today and they were beyond amazing! They showed up on time and ready to move quickly. We moved out of the second and third floor of a brownstone in downtown Albany to a single family home in Schenectady. With transportation time it only took them 6 hours! Transportation accounted for an hour and half of that time so it really only took them 4.5 hours to move us! I would recommend using them if you need to move!
