I have done a tube float from Murrays down the Hocking River twice now. Both times I had a lot of…read morefun on the water! However, there have been some giant trees in the water that I always seem to get caught on. I think if they are offering a service like a tube float they should attempt to clean up some of the sharp debri that is in the river. Murray's does seem to have a good number of floats to rent if you don't want to bring your own. They also offer floating coolers to rent. Murrays now requires 1 person to make a reservation for a group and to pay upfront. This does make it a bit of a headache when you have a large group but I suppose it's understandable in covid times. When you arrive they blow up your float for you and then transport you and your float upstream to drift back to the starting point. Once at the starting point they just drop you off and leave you to figure out how to group up and float down the river together. Some advice or help would be nice but so far my whole group has made it back in one piece lol.

The campsites had a small bundle of wood for a campfire and they were really well spaced out so you don't feel that you are right on top of the next site. The problem is the inattentive staff who really don't care if you buy anything or not. We walked in and were basically ignored by all staff. Too busy on their phones and just standing around shooting the breeze. Felt awkward as soon as we entered because of this. Tried to strike up a conversation with one of the staff but was just meh. Was going to buy a suspension fork, crankshaft, and whatever else I could for my new bike build but we just left because it didn't feel like our business mattered. As much as I'd prefer to support a local business, I need that business to care just as much about me and its own business as I do. Sadly, I doubt we'll go back. No real reason to drive 25 to 30 minutes to be ignored. I can get the same level of customer service online since it was hands off, impersonal, and cold. Strouds Run State Park is a gem, just a few miles from the City of Athens in southeastern Ohio…read more Lots of great trails around the lake and above on the many ridges throughout the park. Fairly large campground with spots that aren't too close together. Beach is typically dragged each morning in the summer and canoes, kayaks, and even motorized pontoon boats for rent. The motorized pontoon is blasphemy for those of us who have been going to the park since the 1970s, but they aren't so many that it is too loud or disruptive. There is one short trail that is accessible for all and there is a mix of pit and flush toilet facilities. There is no life guard at the beach but there is a safe and sizable enclosed playground for young ones.
