have been a patient 20 years before he started at NYU. His level of care and commitment when Im in my appointment is outstanding. But the level of care has dteriorated in some ways. 1.5-2 hour waits. Its months to see him or his PA or a nurse. I see Urgent Care more than him quite often. The level of communication has also greatly deteriorated. For important issues...I have to resend messages. When Im in his exam room, its great. He couldnt be a better. But the rest is quite troubling to a patient of 20 years. read more

Dr. Habor is just great. I want to give 5 stars but there is an area for improvement (below). He is really friendly and attentive, almost feel like chatting with a friend. And very funny.. I always laugh he puts a blue snoopy bandaid on me after blood test. heh.. Most of all, he runs around doing every measurements/tests by himself in his office. It feels to me he really knows what he is doing and mostly very thorough. But not overcharges or anything like that. He was such a huge help in some emergencies in the past and his referals also mentioned how great and thorough he is, which is a very good sign. His office assistant Rich is such a great one as well who knows how to deal with a lot of right there issues to making appts. Not to mention how friendly he is. The office is small but cozy and since Dr. Stuart is very thorough, your appt always starts a bit later than scheduled, but you get to have all the time with him. My only throw back is the new female assistant. I've never saw her but dealing on the phone with her was so terrible. She makes you hold and forgets about you and answers like new call. Every single time. I probably cancelled appts at least 5 times just bc annoyed with her. Dr. Habor, she needs to go. read more

Dr. Haber is my general doctor. He successfully addressed a wide range of issues I consulted him for: torn up knee joints from running, infertility issues, prostate exam and blood work for long term preventative health (glucose, cholesterol). He has an awesome personality in my opinion. I am a 40 year old, science-oriented person and appreciate someone who can explain my medical issues and be caring about them too. He is always both human and technical at the same time. A really nice, smart guy. Things aren't always serious there. I don't want to give anything away but when I had to get the dreaded prostate exam, he told me to turn my head to the side and there was a tiny picture of Lady Gaga about 5 inches from my face and I started laughing a little. The exam only hurt about half as much because I was half laughing at seeing the little photo there that was deliberately put there to distract me. And the staff has all the time in the world for you. I recently made the rounds of several of my doctors and dentist to get copies of my medical records and when I came to Haber's office, the clerk was able to pull my file, and make me photocopies right on the spot. It's like she dropped what she was doing and instantly made copies for me to take with me. That's really kind and I think it's typical of what you get at this small personable office. It's the total opposite of going to NYU and sitting in a waiting room with 20 patients and 4 receptionists and nobody gives you the time of day. Haber's staff is really nice and helpful. read more

I was a patient here for while, not of Dr. Haber's but of an NP, Cathy (forget her last name) who works out of the same office. Cathy was nice and professional. I've actually never met Dr Haber. The problem with this office is that they are wildly unprofessional about getting back to you about anything. Seems likely that this is a front desk issue, but who knows. I had numerous minor negative experiences with not getting my calls forwarded to Cathy, or getting calls back. A very large straw broke the camels back. I needed to get a reference from my doctor to do a genetic screening test. Doing this test doesn't depend on any pre-existing condition, so it's just a trivial doctor's note. I called the office and asked for it. They said Cathy was on vacation, but that Dr. Haber would look at it, and asked for an email with the info, and said they would respond later that day. I emphasized that my appointment was at 3pm the next day (everything happened very quickly), and they said it wouldn't be a problem. To be clear: I realize it was last minute, had they said they wouldn't be able to turn it around, I wouldn't have been upset. I didn't get an email or phone call that day, or the next morning. I called at 10, and was told I would hear soon. At 2 I called (it takes me 30 minutes to get to the site of the screening test), and was told I'd get a call back in a few minutes. 20 minutes later I called and cancelled the appointment for the test. 20 minutes after that I resolved to find a new doctor's office. But first I resolved to warn people about this doctor's office. And here I am. Stay away from this place. I don't care how good the doctors are, sooner or later a ton of your time will be wasted trying to do something simple like this. I hope Cathy finds a better office to work out of. read more

I don't write many reviews, but while reading Dr Haber's, I wanted to share my experience with him over the past 5 years.... Dr Haber is truly the most caring and competent doctor I've ever had. It's BECAUSE he takes his time with his patients, that occasionally there is a wait to see him, but the flip side is that he is incredibly smart , very thorough and easy to talk to.....and in today's world where we can do much of our personal work / emails and games on our smart phones, having an occasional wait doesn't bother me because of the care and personal relationship which is so easy to develop with him. His two recent PA's Cathy and Jenifer have been SOO incredible... they have really been an asset to his practice. To me, it's a mark of a quintessential doctor to attract such talented, competent PA's / nurses to join his practice. (By the way I've never had to wait to see them!)... and feel just as confident/ comfortable when I've seen his PA's as I do with him. The office is intimate and relaxed... and you get the feeling of a authentic family doctor who puts his time / energy and assets into the personal care of his patients rather than a glitzy showy office. Dr Haber truly is very intelligent hyperactive energizer bunny who has laser focus and a fantastic "bedside manner" without typical "Doctor ego" ... he's approachable, easy to talk to about personal issues and extremely competent. I can't recommend him highly enough. It saddened me to read the negative reviews which clearly were from disgruntled individuals not focused on the right issues. It's such a shame that those reviews lower his overall rating. The bottom line is getting the best possible care and having compatibility with the doctor and his PA's / nurses and for that he TOTALLY deserves 5 stars!! read more

Dr. Haber wonderful doctor. Front office staff unprofessional and incompentant fot a doctors office. They are not responsive and completely disinterested in their job. This reflects unfortunately with the experience of the doctor. Sitting next to the 2 waiting to be called in it is obvious to all , and calling the office is very frustrating. Four stars for Dr. Haber, no stars for the front staff and 2 stars for the appearance of office. read more

Dr. Haber is fantastic. His office is small but very comfortable. He truly focuses on you when he's with you and really cares about his patients. When I was very sick earlier this year he took the time to call me at home to check-in on me. The only downside is some of his front desk assistants are not amazing, but I've definitely dealt with worse so I can't complain too much. read more

Doctor is knowledgable and nice, but administrative staff makes the experience incredibly unpleasant. They do not answer and/or return phone calls. Scheduling an appointment or obtaining any information is incredibly challenging. On one occasion, I had scheduled an appointment on a Friday anticipating that my visit would be with Dr. Haber, and unbeknownst to me, Dr. Haber was on call at the hospital that day, so I was scheduled with the nurse practitioner. If this information was known in advance, it should have been communicated prior to walking in to my appointment. Overall, I would suggest finding another office in NYC. read more

The only thing more filthy than the actual condition of his office is the lack of professionalism and courtesy of his administration staff. I have had to make multiple calls, send multiple emails, leave messages with answering services and post info on his portal to get a simple prescription refilled. Conveniently located in the West Village, Dr. Haber provides top-notch primary care to many patients who come from throughout the city to see him. Formerly employed with the now defunct St. Vincent's Hospital, Dr. Haber's specialty is infectious diseases, however he is very knowledgeable on personal primary care for all his patients. Loved the fact that his quaint office is located in a historic district of the West Village, which is convenient to many subway lines (A,C,E,1,9) and that as a patient you receive excellent care and guidance with regards to all aspects of your health. While I no longer reside in the city, if I plan on residing there again Dr. Haber (if he's still in practice and not retired) would be my first choice for my primary care physician. read more

I cannot find words to describe how amazing this practice is. I have lived in different countries and had experience with many GPs. This team is truly one of a kind. I have never felt so looked after. I always see Cathy and she is the sweetest, most attentive and competent NP you will ever meet. Dr. Haber is a knowledgeable and though physician, who has a keen attention to detail and an excellent memory. He is specialized in infectious diseases but has also served as my primary care point of reference for the last 3 years. He will take his time to answer all your questions and address any concerns you might have. From a follow up point of view, he sets the bar very high and I only wish I could receive the same from my other MDs I occasionally interact with. I wish we could split this review into two parts, one for Cathi Nicklas and the other for the rest of the office. Cathi Nicklas may be one of the best "doctors" I have ever had in my life; she is the Nurse Practitioner. However, Dr. Haber and the rest of the office fall into the category of as my husband says, "liability over life". I don't really know where to start, as this has been my primary care for the past five years. I have not really had any major health scares since moving to New York (thank god), however the true colors shined this past year when I brought my husband with me (as he needed a doctor and I always thought mine was really good). When I first brought him in he was treated by Cathi for the things going on in his life at the time. It was almost like an angel from heaven had come down and wrapped him in their arms to protect him. We left feeling like we had really accomplished something; multiple issues fixed and/or moving in that direction. This continued until my husband lost his job earlier this year, and that is when the treatment ended. Let's just put it this way, regardless of how bad things got, there was always an excuse for why he could not be treated. I am confident Cathi wanted to help but had her hands tied by Dr. Haber. When someone is crying out for help, you either a) help them or b) refer them to someone who can. The last straw happened when Cathi was out of town in Ireland. Her and I had a fairly good relationship and we often emailed back and forth so we were on the same page with the health concerns of myself and my husband. After surgery he was referred to his primary care for pain management. When he got there Cathi tried to give him something that would work, but mind you this was a major painful surgical procedure and so what they gave him did not have the efficacy they had hoped for. Dr. Haber tied her hands when she tried refill what the surgeon and home health care nurses recommended. Shortly after leaving the office and realizing this medication was ineffective, he called to let them know and because Cathi had left for vacation, as always, they say they will call back and never do. Unfortunately, when you tell someone you are going to call them back after major surgery and do not, there are consequences. This time it was him crying all night in the bed in pain until he brought himself to the emergency room to get treatment. They treated the pain for the evening in the ER and referred him back to primary care for further treatment. We both called the doctor the next day after the emergency room that evening and Dr. Haber could not be bothered with helping my husband. Mind you, my partner had six inch wounds, that because of fear of infection, were left open, so even the visiting home health care nurse was asking why he didn't have any effective pain medication. Unfortunately Dr. Haber did not want to help, and after speaking with the front desk, they advised me to have my partner come in and Dr. Haber would help him upon presentation of emergency discharge paperwork. When he arrived, they had him wait two hours and then somehow Dr. Haber came out into the waiting room, after miraculously attaining some confidential health care files, to let my partner know he would not be treating him and good luck. I just cannot understand how someone can take an oath to do no harm, yet is haphazard enough to announce his private medical records to a waiting room of people, and to refuse care to someone who desperately need it and has it documented not only by labs and doctors but also hundreds of email exchanges between Cathi and us to prove it. I don't blame her at all. I am confident it is Dr. Haber who judges patients, doesn't treat people he doesn't deem worthy of his treatment, and is so scatterbrained, half the time isn't sure what he is seeing you for. I won't even get into him discharging my husband as a patient and falsifying medical records and charts because that is more of matter for the courts, but I just wanted to paint a picture of what you are getting yourself into by going here. I think it is important to warn you. Don't go here unless you want to ask yourself five years down the round, why you waited so long to get real treatment. read more

I have been a patient here for several decades, to some extent out of familiarity. Dr. Haber's manner is always professional, if slightly manic and rushed. This appears to be caused by chronic overbooking, which also results in wait times of never less than 30 minutes. This week, despite an urgent issue, the wait was 2 hours with still no hope in sight of seeing the doctor or NP. I was forced to return the following morning to see the NP, and even that resulted in a 20 minute delay, despite being the first appointment of the day with no other patients in. No explanation or apology is ever offered. At best this practice seems to think its patients have nothing else to do or accomplish. The front office staff are, at best, soporific and confused. I've never once had a voicemail message returned. I am, after all these years, moving to a practice that shows even a modicum of courtesy towards their patients. read more

I have a complicated medical history and I recently saw Dr. Haber for the first time. I was so happy to talk to a doctor who took a very thorough history, showed genuine concern, and thoroughly examined me. His bedside manner was great. On follow-up visit with bloodwork results, he explained everything in detail and in a way that was easy to understand. I've been to many doctors over the years and I feel compelled to say that I feel Dr. Haber is top flight - a great physician and a class act. read more

I've been a patient of Dr. Haber's for over a decade, and I recommend him without reservation as a primary-care physician. I trust his medical knowledge and experience. He is thorough. He tries to get to know you as an individual--i.e., you don't feel like you're passing by him on an assembly line. For issues outside his purview, he has always been able to refer me to other excellent doctors. Although he is always heavily booked, my understanding is that--for reasons not worth getting into here--it's a necessity within his specialty to book tightly, so I get it. While he's busy, he does slow down and really focus on you once you are with him. Also worth noting is that he's well attuned to some of the specific medical needs and concerns of gay men: For people in my community, this is a very important and good thing in a doctor. I've looked at some of the more mixed reviews on here, and I think most of them just stem from honest mismatches between the practice and the patient. Everybody has his or her own sort of "medical personality," and if very smooth administration and nonexistent wait times are your top priorities, there might be practices better set up for you. But Dr. Haber's office has been an excellent match for me, and I look forward to remaining a patient there for a long time to come. read more

Physicals should be routine and straightforward, They didn't tell me to fast for my physical (since it was late afternoon, I would assume they don't expect me to fast, otherwise they should have suggested that I have a morning appointment), so I had to come back in for fasting labwork. They billed this separate visit as a complete doctor visit, which it was not (I've never even met the doctor), and it took months for them to finally remove that blatantly incorrect billing error. However, the worst part is they ordered the non-preventative versions of several of the tests, and since the lab processed it that way, the damage was done and insurance won't cover them as they would have if the preventative versions were ordered. I tried to get them to correct their mistakes, and even to write a letter to support an appeal, and they tried to get me to actually come in for another visit to discuss it, under the pretense of following up on one of my labs. However, the full lab results (which took months to receive) indicate that the lab value in question, while high, was also based on a sample that was compromised, that is, they mishandled the blood sample, likely resulting in the high result, and now they want to charge me for third set of bloodwork and labs. Overall, the impression I got is that everyone, from the doctor, nurse practitioner, to the adminstrative staff are either extremely incompetent or are engaging in fraud by working the system for their financial gain. It's not worth months of headaches calling and emailing them to address the problems that they simply refuse to fix. Stay away. read more
