The moment I walked into the office of Ahmadur Rahman, MD the staff was terrible not helpful very rude, the doctor was irritated because it was closing time + I was not seen and didn't get offered a rescheduling option I highly don't recommend this office. I asked the staff for the doctors information so I can update my insurance and she got annoyed because she did not know this information and got irritated with me. This is the medical field people should not be in this field if they do not have people skills. If you don't want to see patients after a certain time or close to closing the schedule should not be available. I have been to the top of the line and some pretty overbooked clinics I have never received the service I experienced today. I was not treated well by this doctor at all. I had an intake that lasted less than 15 minutes, he did not even take a history (the office doesn't even have paperwork for it!), and refused to support me around scheduling an urgent appointment for a biopsy, after explaining to him that my former doctor had their staff help me because I have some issues with cognition. He did not tell them what I explained, he did not ask them to help me, I had to explain to them what was needed. I left that office fully dissociated because of his treatment towards me, and walked six blocks in the wrong direction before I woke up. Anyway, They agreed to send me the referral before the end of day. I waited for two days, then had to ask where the referral was. They sent me a doctor that didn't take my insurance. I called and complained, the receptionist told me that staff had been actually instructed to tell me to do it on my own. In other words, The doctor was upset that his staff recognized my needs, suffering ego problems, surely, and essentially ordered them not to help me after they recognized my needs and offered to do so. So, I waited on hold for over an hour, called two numbers that were disconnected, and ultimately did not get service from the insurance company. Because that is what calling your insurance company is in this country now. And the presenting problem? A growth that needs to be tested for cancer. That is how urgently this doctor shows concern for your welfare. Beware. read more

Sharing a few things about my experience so it will hopefully assist other patients. I have seen Dr. Rahman 3 or 4 times. My last visit was a routine physical exam. My biggest concern was to check my cholesterol and blood sugar. Upon entering and checking in the receptionist let me know there would be a co-pay. Prior to giving her the co-pay, I double checked with my insurance company and was told that a routine physical exam would be covered. I confirmed with the receptionist and then she said the co-pay would be for a diagnosis. I let her know I was just in for a routine physical and she briefly spoke with the Dr. and then didn't ask me for a co-pay. I had a very brief exam. The Dr. had me do a blood draw and provide a urine sample. Then an assistant in the office gave me an EKG. There was no discussion on why they were doing this. I have never had an EKG as part of an annual physical. I received the test results a few days after my visit. The form letter (received by email) with instructions about cholesterol and blood sugar was identical to last years email. I decided to take a look at the test and they neglected to mention some issues with the urine exam. This lead me to have to go to another Dr. for an appointment to confirm the issue. A few weeks after my visit I received a bill in the mail from Dr. Rahman's office. I was confused as to why I was getting a bill. After making several calls I realized they charged me for the EKG. That this was not part of the routine physical exam and I was not made aware of why this test was done or that there would be an additional charge. I called the office twice after receiving the bill. The number for billing is either the number for an answering service or the reception at one of his offices. I explained the situation and was told twice that someone would call me back. I asked when and they said they couldn't confirm. I also sent an email. No one got back to me. Now 5 weeks later I received another bill. I called today and was also told someone would call me back but they couldn't confirm when. I do not have great insurance and I found it helpful that Dr. Rahman takes the insurance that I have. I understand that he must have to see an excessive amount of patients as he may not be compensated as well with the less than stellar insurance plans. I still don't think it's an excuse to provide this type of less than stellar service. read more

I was happy with him for many years, but his staff seems to change every time I go. Then last year, they never put one of my claims through insurance. They said they couldn't do it because I already paid. I had to pay because I didn't have my new insurance number yet. (I told them I just switched jobs and had new insurance that his office takes. After years of my whole family going to him, they didn't trust me! They made me pay upfront. If they just billed me, this wouldn't have happened.) I called the insurance company, they said of course I'm entitled to my refund. Then the the doctors' billing person told me I had to put in the claim myself. The insurance company will not take claims from patients. I spent hours trying to get my money, they wouldn't even credit my account. I just gave up. Even worse, he rushed my last visit and forgot to renew 2 prescriptions. Looking for a new doctor for my next exam. I think his Google reviews are fake. I went to the office for a blood test and was not called back with the results for over a week. A standard test takes usually 3 days to return the results to the doctor's office. After calling the office for 3 times and sending an email. Dr. Rahman's secretary told me again and again that she would follow up which she did not do. During my last phone call I asked to speak with the office manager or Dr Rahman personally which she declined. I emphasized that I will leave town in a couple of days and would like to get results and she insisted that she can not transfer my call to the manager and the doctor is with a patient. I checked with my insurance and verified that the lab had billed for the test and the blood sample was received. The doctor is usually a cool person but his staff is seriously lacking professional attitude. After calling the main office in Queens, I finally received a call back from the Doctor explaining the delay which should have been done in the first place by his staff. read more

Dr. Rahman is an excellent doctor. He is very knowledgeable and thorough, and I was a happy patient from 2016-2018. However, his staff is the complete opposite. The office also looks like it has seen better days. The lighting is dim and the paint is coming apart. After 3 years, I finally had a billing issue. They billed $719 in lab tests to my insurance for an ANNUAL PHYSICAL. As a patient, I expected this visit to be free. I brought in a work form with 4 basic questions (height, weight, cholesterol, BP), and did not expect 10+ blood tests to be done. His staff has awful communication skills. They do not answer emails or return phone calls. I called about the issue 5 times and they never followed up until I got pushy about the topic. They will instantly defer to calling insurance or the lab, and place the blame on them. The tests they billed as preventative are not considered preventative by my insurance. Some were considered preventative for people over age 40 (I'm 28), and others were for people with pre-existing conditions. They did not check or inform me that these tests would be done. Everyone I spoke to said the office shouldn't have done these tests without checking insurance for an estimate. I sent the office a link to the list of preventative tests from my insurance for next time. Their response? They sent a rude email saying the link doesn't work. The link works by the way. You have to fill in the Age and Gender fields, so you don't run lipid tests on someone who is under age 40 and doesn't have a pre-existing condition. But reading comprehension and patient planning is too much to expect from this staff. They also insisted that it's my responsibility to check these tests with my insurance in advance; these are again tests that I didn't even know were going to be done that day. This is such an unprofessional medical staff. All finger-pointing, and no accountability. read more

I really like Dr. Rahman a lot. He is an excellent doctor. He's knowledgable, has a great manner about him, conveys knowledge and builds trust. His office is a mess, though, so be prepared for long wait times and very poor follow-up. It's a tough pill to swallow but I do so because I like him, he is good, and he's close by. But the office staff are so poorly organized. Currently I am trying to have records faxed to another doctor who he recommended to me, a specialist. I have called his office 4 times, as well as the other doctor, and the records still are not faxed. That's 8 calls in total and no action. Post visit, his team told me via email he actually wasn't able to fill it out. I thought this was strange, since I made sure he was able to during my visit, because it was the whole reason I made the appointment in the first place. Once I was told via email I wasn't able to receive the form I was promised, I visited the office where Dr. Rahman was incredibly rude and essentially called me a liar saying he never said he would fill the form out, when I specifically asked him if we could in the original appointment and he confirmed. In addition to his rude demeanor in the follow up, the office is also very rundown. It's in a great location with good reviews, so I had higher expectations. Even though I saw this doctor THREE times in a row for a problem I was having...a few weeks later when I needed a refill on a prescription, the office just said "NO". When I called FOUR times to please ask to speak with the doctor to refill my cough medicine as I was away on a business trip and unable to sleep at all from the coughing (not one decent night of sleep) NO ONE bothered to call back. I needed to be in top shape for business and instead I was a wreck. They just wanted to collect another $200 to write the prescription. PLEASE have some compassion for sick people in need. Additionally, he told me the results of my tests were fine...when they were NOT. That is very dangerous, I am glad I followed up with a different doctor. read more

I have THE WORST insurance but somehow got the best primary doctor in Manhattan? He is knowledgeable, listens, and really knows his stuff. They do bloodwork on site with fast results. His staff is amazing and responsive. Everyone is very nice and waiting room time is minimal. I feel so lucky to have access to such accommodating medical care for all my health needs. I rarely write reviews about doctors but this clinic blew me away. Not only was Dr. Rahman very informative, he had great bedside manners and his staff was nothing but helpful. The best part was the blood test results came back almost immediately. I got it done on a Friday and the results were in by Monday. Talk about swift service! Their office is super tiny and nothing fancy but it is Manhattan. Everything is expensive and hey, they get the job done. I just hope I won't receive a bill in the mail. :/ read more

Great doctor! I went to the Queens location and I came to him for an ear cleaning...and turned out I didn't even need one because there wasn't any ear wax to clean! Although he had great bedside manner, I still paid $35 to basically be told that I don't need an ear cleaning. In an age of medical factories where faceless, nameless patients are briskly ushered in and out of Doctor's offices with little more than prescriptions and follow-up appointments, Doctor Rahman is one of the rare ones who genuinely cares about the welfare and well-being of his patients. I thought i was paralysed or something and he made me feel like everything would be okay. I liked Ahmadur Rahman a lot. Good doctor. However unless you are rich I would not recommend going to this office. I made such an effort to find out about all costs before my visit (calling office 3 times + my insurance, once I saw the doctor I called my insurance from waiting room to find out exact cost again). Because I have large student loans, I need to budget and be aware of all costs. I thought that after how thorough I had been before and during the doctors visit I would not be hit with any unexpected bill. I was wrong. I have been billed random amounts twice. It has not at all been clear what this was for. I also feel that as a doctor working in the USA (unless you only treat rich patients) you should have some idea of what things cost and whether your patient could afford these charges. Because of these two separate billing issues I will not return to the office. read more
