Despite the obsolute exterior, the gourmet store for chocolate lovers is well worth the visit. There is plenty of parking available at this eclectic mix of offerings at this mall. I am not a chocolate connoisseur, nor am I a particular fan of chocolate, but upon trying their Champagne Truffles, I was BLOWN AWAY. It was unlike any chocolate experience I had ever encountered. SO GOOD! This is my go to place for gifts for all the women in my life. I exclusively go for the truffles, as they have never done me wrong. They offer a variety of Truffles: Amaretto, Beurre, Champagne, Cognac, Cointreau and Don Juan. If my review was solely based on the truffles, I would give it 5 stars, but my review reflects the entire gourmet store experience. Every time I have made a purchase, I spent the extra dollars on the dainty packaging. It displays very well. I had all my info from the original order, I was abruptly told they don't deliver outside of Ottawa to a bedroom community. I said that would have been helpful information the month prior when they took my money. The person was rude and saying there aren't delivering at all in Dec. again then don't take orders. They did process the refund upon request but I doubt I would have unless I followed up. I would never use again! On the bright side the AnnaStubbe location had exceptional customer service and more then willing to help!

It took maybe 10 minutes to make, which is a while, but you can browse the store in the meantime; the variety of chocolates was stunning! They also have 3 types of chocolate cakes you can purchase as slices. I chose to take it to go, but if you have the hot chocolate there, they are served in tall pretty glasses. The hot chocolate was piping hot, and quite rich; the spices really crept up on you, and made drinking it an interesting experience!

Aside from my Hokkaido ice cream experience in Japan, this has been by far the best and smoothest soft ice cream I have ever had and my second favourite of all time. My favourite treat has been the chocolate covered macaroons - milk or dark chocolate. It doesn't matter which; they are both delicious! They offer "Snark" coffee - which is really good, or hot chocolate, among other beverages. Please note that the Perth Chocolate Works took over the space once occupied by Coutts, who has moved to an old building overlooking the water. This space is now more open and has no tables or seating inside, and less on display for sale, so it looks bright and clean. This might change as the holidays approach. Time will tell. Any time I go to Perth, this is one of the stops I make, so I look forward to my next visit. :-)

So all their bars were $5.99 each (they call them "Postcard Chocolates" because the bars are packaged in a way that you can mail them like a postcard. I would personally be afraid that people would steal them, and they would never reach their intended recipient, but that's just my disillusionment with humanity, which is another topic altogether and has no place in a review about delicious chocolate anyways). They had unusual flavours like "corn and cereal", wasabi, and Pinot Noir. I ended up getting a Buttered Rum and an Afternoon Tea for myself. A Chili for my brother, an Afternoon Tea for his wife and a Spiced Cranberry for each of my husband's sisters. The bars are either dark, milk or white chocolate. Their chocolate is ethically sourced. The dark chocolates are vegan. The Buttered Rum was a milk chocolate and it was sweet and smooth and had a definite buttery rum flavour to it. The Afternoon Tea was a dark chocolate and the tea flavour was way too subtle for me. I was hoping for a potent tea flavour, but it was so mild. And hopefully it's a good salary, because these bars aren't cheap. At almost $10 a bar, they are packed with homemade, high-quality chocolate filled with the most unique flavours I've ever seen. I am extremely drawn to desserts with weird flavours so the first chocolate bar I bought was the "Ramen" one. Yes, Ramen. It tasted like crunchy salted chocolate, but with ramen flavouring instead of salt and dried noodles instead of nuts. Surprisingly tasty! Then there was the tart ruby chocolate with freeze dried berries and my favourite to date, spicy wasabi dark chocolate. I just ordered Cheese White Chocolate, Donut Milk Chocolate, Rose Dark Chocolate...I'm delighted and excited. Their gimmick is that the chocolate bars double as postcards. Tasting bars for other foods have been around for a while; beer tastings come to mind; bakeries might offer a similar event. I have also been to another tasting bar for olive oil and balsamic vinaigrettes - but that was in BC. I didn't realize that there were such a thing here in Ottawa. Although your grocery stores offer a variety of oils and flavoured vinegars, I don't think they are quite at par with these... (Farm Boy has their own line of finer oils). It being summer right now, The Unrefined Olive has berry-flavoured olive oils - strawberry, raspberry, blueberry, and maybe others. I tried a clear one which was very pungent. I've started putting these on salads at home, as a dressing. And if you've ever been to finer Italian restaurants, they might offer bread dipping bowls with this type of flavoured oil and vinegar. The Unrefined Olive also offers a package of 4 small samples which would be ideal to give as a gift. While I was at it, I found humongous olives stuffed with feta and pickled in vermouth! There was also Canadian honey for sale. This is a great place to find hostess gifts. I will definitely be back.

There are little steel cups that you can use to sample everything (except for the premium oils such as the truffle oils). It would be amazing in pasta salads or drizzled on top of pizza; however, prices are quite steep, so I would use the oils sparingly! (For example, a 200ml of basil infused olive oil is $5.99 at La Bottega/Nicastro, whereas here it is $14.99...so definitely a splurge)! Overall, I would come here if feeling splurgy (or was more baller, haha), otherwise I would probably stick with olive oils from regular stores.
