I've come here for a few years now and have loved getting my hair cut by Rachel! She is fantastic, super friendly, is very knowledgeable about hair, and does a great job! If I was rating just her, it would be 5 stars all the way! In reviewing the salon itself, it's pretty average. The prices are decent but they recently raised them which made me sad because a big reason I loved coming here was because of the great deal it was! It's still not bad though. I do love that you can make appointments online because it makes it easy! Just make sure to do it well in advance if you have a specific person you want, because some stylists book out quick. I did have an experience with returning an item that didn't go great... They accepted my return but I never saw it come through on my bank statement, so I went to ask about it. They apparently had zero record of it and whoever processed it originally didn't do it right so they were skeptical of what I was claiming. I had to go through a lot of stuff with managers before they finally agreed to return my money. I was grateful for this, but wish that the girl who processed the return for me in the first place would've done it right so I didn't have to go through all that. My rating can basically be broken down like this: 3 stars for my experience with their customer service and returning items, 4 stars for the overall salon, 5 stars for my stylist, Rachel! read more

I been getting my hair done by Elena. And she does a fabulous job. When you have black hair you have to realize that your color goal can be a process but it's been an awesome color journey and I've enjoyed My hair colors on this journey. I'd like to add that they also do the most amazing pedicures here! My feet stayed tingly for a few hours from the fantastic product they use on your feet. It feels and smells wonderful. They apply this mask on your feet that I have never had done in all the past years I've gotten pedicures. I recommend you stop in for a pedicure here. You will not be disappointed. I went here once and it was the absolute worst experience of my life. Not worth how cheap it was. I asked to get my ends cleaned up and for some long layers but the hairstylist took a chunk of my hair and just chopped it off. There was a CHUNK of my hair missing. I didn't realize how bad it was until I got home. I went back the next day and got a refund and went to a new studio to get it fixed. So sad to leave such a bad review but if you saw the haircut, you would too. read more

The salon takes the place of an older and smaller barbershop. It is a full service salon but I have only been here for men's haircuts. I strongly recommend making an appointment as it is often booked out. I usually wait 5 min but have waited 15 after my allotted time frame. Some of the services may not set apart enough time for full services. I have been happy with different stylists. My issue is I often do not decide on a haircut until a few days prior, so. I end up having to make an appointment with whoever is available, a week or two away is more ideal if you want a particular stylist. I like the vacuum on the head to suck up loose hair at the end. They have a repeat customer card which kicks in on the 6th haircut. Also, their is usually some hair style discount of the month here, sometimes $2 off a mans haircut. Advice from a friend. Men's haircut = $12. A stylist friend said the stylists really rely in tips not on hourly wage, so tipping here is extra important. Some barbershops pay stylists at least a minim wage. It's a Utah thing, I believe. In short, $3-4 tip is recommended, if not more! read more

BYU has opened a newly revamped hair salon inside their student center and it makes the cut! Usually I would be skeptical to try out such a place, especially with the name Paul Mitchell attached to it, but considering that this was a *professional* salon and not a student academy I figured that there was a better chance of them not screwing up my hair -- and I was right! Or perhaps lucky...? In any case, I was pleasantly surprised by my experience. The place is new, clean, and kinda fun. The staff are nice and my hair stylist, Caroline Quinn, was a cool girl. She's young (19, I think) but she knows what she's doing! I got partial highlights on the bottom half of my hair so as to blend more evenly with my top half and low-and-behold she did a good job. If you've read my other hair salon posts, I'm very picky on who touches my hair because I had a horrible bleach job at a beauty school 2 years ago and it scarred me. So I was being very daring allowing Caroline to highlight my tresses but she passed the test! My hair looked good and FELT good... No damage! I gave her a nice $10 tip and told I'd come back. Which I will, though I'm curious now to try some of the other girls out... If you haven't tried this place I'd recommend giving it a go! They have very reasonable student-discounted prices which is the main allure. $20 for a haircut (women) and $45 for partial highlights... Not bad! I could save $20-30 going to Aveda academy (which I'm curious to try out) buuuut I'm also risking ruining my hair again. I think I will stick to the sure thing and make another appointment with Studio 1030! read more

Yesterday I got the worst haircut of my entire life here. Apparently "shoulder length with no layers" means "chin length fugly bob with so many layers that I can't count". Do not go here. If you do, you might end up like me with a completely unsalvageable founding-father haircut. I look like coconut head from Ned's Declassified. Miscia; you have made me so violently ugly. All the ladies that have cut my hair have been absolutely fantastic. Dakota, Amy, Whitney, and just recently Carly (I hope I spelled their names right). They cut quickly, and the salon does not offer complimentary hair washes like most places, but the ladies always have done a fantastic job on my hair. They are busy, so you better know what you want! Once you let them know though, they are quick, efficient, and incredibly skillful. Zero complaints! For someone who is always moving and really doesn't have 45 minutes to wait for a dang haircut, this place is ORGANIZED. It's really nice. I would recommend this place for men's cuts all day, particularly any of the women I mentioned above. My wife had her hair cut here once, and seemed to like the job they did. I have been here for most of my haircuts while at school at BYU. I can only comment on the men's cuts and I really don't know how they do with women. I've had some good experiences and some haircuts that were kind of mediocre. I think the biggest thing to realize is that there are a lot of people working there and some of the girls are more talented than others. I wish I could give the names of the girls that are the best but I just haven't really made the effort to figure out which one is the best. I've had a couple of good cuts from a girl named Aimee who works at the first station on the left. If you find a girl that you like just keep requesting her and you should get a consistently good cut. All in all its a good place to try out especially if you are a student because it's super convenient to go to the wilk. The vacuum they use to suck the loose hair off your neck is nice so that it doesn't get itchy if you can't go home and shower immediately. Appointments are a must if you want to go during a busy time. The easiest way is to just call them and avoid using their website where you have to make an account or some nonsense like that. read more

I had an appointment at 10:30am. Got there at 10:31am. The receptionist was rude when talking to me. Did not greet me, just told me to sit down and wait. I waited for 10 mins. Hair dresser called alena lopez, finally came out. Did not even say hi, just ask me how to say my name!! She looked so impatient, and seems very irritated by something! The bad experience has just started! I showed her a picture of what I want and ask her if I would look good with the style. She said you have to style it to look as nice as the picture. I said we won't go with the style and told her just cut it the same as my original hair style. I said I would like an A line for the hairs that are on the side. She did not even carefully listen to what i want, and did not communicate with me about anything. She only cut for 10 mins. Literally 10 mins, only cut the back and did not even cut the front. She gave me a mirror and showed me the back. I was shocked! She literally cut a A for the back of my hair. I want my hair to be about neck length. I ends up with a "A" shape at the back. The "A" shape was very obvious and very sudden, no transition at all! The layer was awful. It has no layer and looked cricket and chunky!!! I pointed out very nicely and ask her if she could layer it more and fix it. She got mad, and start to argue with me. She said it looks nice and said I asked for the A line. She has absolutely no sense how to cut hair, has no techniques at all. Her attitude was horrible!!! She asked another stylist to come and see my hair. The other stylist told her how to fix it. She keep saying "I am a visual person, I dont know what you mean". She tries to fix it, ends up cutting the back of my hair to a "stair case" shape. I had to tell her where to fix. I am so mad. I was a little apprehensive to come here because of all the bad reviews, but I really needed a trim, and was going to be in Provo for the day. Booked my appointment online which was nice and convenient/easy. Everyone was nice when I came in and I didn't have to wait long. Alexis was super nice, but not overly chatty, which I appreciated. I am only giving 4 stars because they were out of the conditioner I prefer (lavender mint moisturizing). The best part of today was that Alexis was so good at styling. She really took the time to blow dry in small sections so that by the time she was done drying my hair she only had to flat iron about 3 pieces on top. Usually after cuts I don't like how my hair is styled but Alexis nailed it! read more

TERRIBLE! My wife went there and the girl had apparently worked there for three years, but she couldn't cut my wife's hair, with the simplest instructions you could ever give a hair stylist. She gave the "stylist" a picture of the hair style she wanted done on her. In the middle of the hair cut, the girl asked my wife if she liked it so far, and my wife noted that the front wasn't what she asked for and wanted it fixed. The girl told her she would fix it and she could "totally" do so. She butchered it though. She probably learn to cut hair before working a hair salon. read more

I went once for an emergency manicure and shellac and all their shellacs were weird, they didn't stick to my nails: I ended up leaving with just a manicure. They were very nice and friendly about it and didn't want the tip, so I've decided to give it another shot. However, the last two times I called, they either didn't answer the phone or had no availability for the same day. Unfortunately I often can get a manicure on very little notice, and they have such a great location on campus, perfect for students and employers... maybe they should consider hiring more people to cover the demand. read more

The salon is convenient as I work at the University; I probably would not come here if only traveling to campus for it. My experience is with men's cuts, which are fair-priced and take about 15 minutes to complete. It is difficult to get the same cut even if using the same stylist. The online scheduler makes it easy to find an appointment that meets your schedule. Remember to have your rewards card stamped each visit. I started going to Studio 1030 2 1/2 years ago. I found someone there who did a great job, but unfortunately she left after I had been going to her for a few months. I found someone else I liked soon after, but the same situation occurred. I've been to Studio 1030 three times since, and every time has been terrible. Alena cut my hair a couple of those times and went as quickly as she could with no attention to quality. She was very rude and didn't care to grasp what I wanted her to do. I decided to give another stylist a shot, Misha, with similar results. I was surprised with such poor service considering that the two girls I had gone to before were awesome. The quality of people up front seems to have worsened as well. The manager was working the front one day and seemed rushed when I came in. All she said to me was "did you need something?" Without a smile or even a welcome or hello. As a BYU alum, I loved going to Studio 1030 partly because I enjoyed an excuse to make the drive to visit campus, but I'm done with this place. read more

I had just moved to Provo and didn't know where to go to get my hair done, so I went to Studio 1030, since it was conveniently on campus. I was so impressed with my stylist Sadie, she is so talented and kind, and she made my hair look exactly how I wanted. I have very thick, curly hair, and it takes a while to do highlights on my hair, but she was happy and nice the whole time, and never made me feel bad about my thick hair taking too long, like stylists have done in the past. I will definitely be returning to Studio 1030!! read more

Been here 3 times and have liked it every time! I have long, thick, curly hair and I've never had a bad experience here with relatively simple trims, layering, and bangs. Stylists are always at least professional, and usually they're extremely friendly. They warn you in the scheduling portal that you could lose your appointment if you're more than 5 minutes late, so, reviewers who are upset they missed--that's on you. read more

I have come here multiple times for nails, haircuts for my husband, eyebrows, etc. The first few times I came here I had a decent experience, but the last two times my husband got his hair cut here have been horrible. The first time, the girl was in the worst mood and rushed through his hair in less than 5 minutes- not even asking what he wanted. I had to fix it when we got home. This last time, he just went in for a trim wanting it cleaned up on the sides and trimmed up on top for family pictures next week. The girl straight up BUZZED HIS WHOLE HAIR after him showing her exactly what he wanted. The funny thing is that at first she even asked "So you just want a 3 on the sides, and then about this much cut on top with scissors?" And he said yes. She must have forgot what she was doing halfway through because after doing the sides with clippers, she just went all in and buzzed the top as well. And mind you, he had about 2 inches of hair on top. He usually parts his hair on the side, but now there is nothing to even part because it is COMPLETELY BUZZED. I think her name was Lauren or Laura? I started going to Studio 1030 when my friend started working there. I only see my friend, and if it wasn't for her working there, I wouldn't go. Sure the prices are great, but I always feel like they are so rushed. It seems kind of like a "fast food" salon. Let's get as many people in as quickly as we can. I was scheduled for an 80 minute appointment, my stylist was told by the receptionist that her next appointment was waiting for her. My stylist asked what time she was supposed to be done with my appointment and they told her at an hour. After that point, I felt like my stylist was rushed, and I sure hoped nothing went wrong that we would have to spend more time fixing, because the receptionist was breathing down her back to get to her next appointment. I scheduled my appointment for 80 minutes and they wanted her to be done in 60. I have a problem with that. My stylist chose to do something that would take a little longer, and felt that was best for what I wanted. I trust her completely, but hate that they booked her so full that she couldn't do what she wanted to do on me. I think if you're going in for a quick haircut and wanting the bare minimum for a great price, this is your place. If you're looking for the full salon experience where the stylists take time to make sure everything is perfect, go somewhere else. If/when my stylist leaves Studio 1030, I will never be returning again. read more

Giving this review for my 4 year old daughter, who we took to get her very first 'real' haircut here. The girl who cut her hair didn't bother to make it special in any way - she didn't even wet her hair! The entire thing lasted less than a minute, and involved the hairdresser simply sitting my daughter down, brushing through her hair once or twice, and about three snips with the scissors. I have gone multiple times and had bad experiences. One time I went and got shellac and it came off within a day. Another time I was scolded for being late and being told I might have to reschedule, which is understandable when you are excessively late, not five minutes because of 900 E traffic. After I was scolded they checked and said the girl that was going to do my nails was still finishing up with her last customer so I would have to wait. This would have been find had I not gotten in trouble for being late in the first place. 40 minutes later they came back to me and asked if I wanted to pick out a shellac color because the girl was almost done. At this point I was done waiting. I couldn't wait any longer because I had a final I had to go to. Overall bad experiences. They offered me a free shellac service but I don't go to a salon to be reprimanded so I won't be redeeming that any time soon. read more
