Airbrush tans are where it's at, Studio A! One of my fellow Yelpies told me about Studio A and how amazing their airbrush tans were. Both she and another one of our friends got it done for their wedding and they looked fabulous. I knew I had to book an appointment for my next event! I made a reservation online and it was extremely easy. Studio A is kind of hard to find if you've never been. Definitely look it up online before heading that way with your Google Maps. I got lost! It's nestled in Cahaba Heights across the street from Starbucks and Dairy Queen. You also need to remember to wear dark and loose fitting clothing. It's a small salon but is tidy and cute! There's pictures of Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe everywhere. Everyone I came in contact with there was very nice. When I got my airbrush tan done, you could tell they took their time with extreme precision. They assessed my body and where to spray - whether it be more or less. I think my whole session was about 10-15 minutes. It was dry nearly immediately. They even walked me to the front door, as it was raining earlier on in the day, to make sure my feet and legs wouldn't get wet. The tan was dark, but not over powering. There was orangey/oompa-loompa coloring either. My tan lasted around 10 days. Amazing! Studio A has a new forever client in me! Love, love, love it! read more

This salon was recommended to me by a friend who had gotten a spray tan here before. Her's looked amazing so I asked where she had it done. The appointment was very easy to make online and the people were very nice and made me feel very comfortable. Although, the two stars are due to the fact the tan started coming off the day after i got it. I had not even showered yet and it looked like I had the tan on for a week. I'm in love with this place! I set up an appointment on the recommendation of a friend that goes for waxing and facials. Which brings me to the point of their reservation system. You can make appointments online which is so convenient for me. I setup my appointment online and reserves a few reminders, which was great. The location was kind of hard to find but they sent a guide an hour or so before, so I just referred to that. I love the clean and modern décor of this place. I appreciated the ambiance and the friendliness of the staff that really just put me at ease. Everyone really put me at ease and made the whole process easy, fast and not at all as awkward as I imagined it to be. I'll definitely be back and intend to try some of their other services. I have been going to Studio A for year to get airbrush tans. Annette is best and always does a great job! I would not go anywhere else to get an airbrush tan. I also get my hair cut and recently got it highlighted by Kristen! She does excellent work and I away love the way my hair looks. It hard for me to make discussions on my hair and Kristen always has great advise and is great at explaining what it will look like and makes sure I'm comfortable with it before she does it! The stylist who did my hair did a good job....but she was not very friendly. It seemed to me that she thought it was a chore to talk to me. The few times I asked a question, she seemed annoyed and in a very mild way, a little insulting. I usually just sit quietly until she is done. Again, I am happy with the result, but feel oddly unwelcome and just tolerated. She just is not a very happy or welcoming person. I need to start looking around :( read more

I got a Brazilian wax at Studio A. I've had this done for years in many salons as I move frequently. This was the most painful, miserable wax I've ever experienced. Obviously they're never pleasant, but generally they don't phase me much. The whole time, I had to force myself to stay as I nearly walked out during the process. I don't understand how she managed to make it so terribly uncomfortable. Beyond being super painful, it also took nearly twice as long as they generally do for me and I was left with more strays. Also, without giving too much detail, she didn't wax down as far as I'd like. I would have said something had I realized, but didn't notice until she left the room. Additionally, I was left sore for several days afterwards where I normally don't feel anything once I leave. To top it all off, I tipped very generously regardless of the service because the type of work she does, and I didn't get even a thank you. Needless to say, I will not be back. I only gave 2 stars because for the most part, in the end I did receive a wax. read more

I took advantage of a groupon deal for my first Brazilian wax and was so amazed and impressed by Annette's expertise and friendly demeanor. Honestly I was a little surprised because the reception from the stylists was a little chilly when I walked in, but Annette soon put me at ease as she explained the process and kept me chatting through what could've become a very awkward situation. Seriously though it never got weird, even though she was waxing my naughty bits! Can't say it was painless, but it didn't hurt as much as I expected. I'm a convert and plan to return to have her wax my legs today! All in all I'm very happy with the service and would recommend to others. read more

Went here to have a brazilian wax done for the first time after finding them through a groupon promotion. First time having someone else do it and was a little nervous. As soon as I walked in Courtney took me back to get ready and put me at ease! She was super friendly and did a great job! She was very quick and it hardly hurt. Studio A gets an F ! One awful experience. Bought the Groupon. Had a terrible time getting some one to return my call, number one. Finally made an appt. after Robin jacks me around about an exact time-- we agree on a time, she calls and changes it at last minute. I walk in , I was the only client in the place. I sit right down in her chair.. she and her "team-mate" start to groom my hair. She ask me what I wanted.. I say the Groupon special of cut, style, full foils. "What color do you want?"... "well, just match me up with what I have already and just shape up this simple cut".. She informed me that she would be right back after she mixes up the color... she returns with a box of foils and a tub of color and says to me ... " you seem awfully uneasy...... "well" , I say "I am a bit uncomfortable.. I just have never had two people putting foils in my hair at the same time and I would rather just you do my hair, after all , my apt is with you" .. she goes... "we work as a 'team' so if you are not comfortable with it maybe you should just go back to Atlanta to get your hair done and takes off the cape she so quickly put on me the first second I walked in the door. " ( I had told her earlier that I was new to the B'ham area and that the same person had done my hair for 34 years)... I am so totally shocked at this point ! I start to gather my purse . I say as I am walking towards the door.."well I want my money back"... ... "Well, you will have to go through Groupon to get your money back".. I leave with weak knees and a lump in my throat. Instead of trying to set me at easy with her and our new relationship.... she rushes me out the door. I really don't think I have ever been so insulted in my life in a business situation as I was today. I called Groupon as soon as I collected myself and they so gracefully reimbursed me . .. Groupon also said they would look into Studio A and did not like doing business with companies that got a bad report from their users. I get my hair cut and colored by Alexa. I love to change my hair and get something new and edgy. She is very professional and I always love my hair when I leave. I also get my waxing there and I have always had a pleasant experience. The facials are very relaxing and the micro keeps my skin looking young and fresh. There are so many services all in one place!! They even have spray tanning! The staff is very friendly and courteous and there's always a positive atmosphere. Im not from Birmingham because I'm a college student so I thought it was time to find a hair dresser in Alabama. Normally I go to a fancy and expensive salon back in Florida. I came across this groupon but hesitantly decided that I would trust these people with my thick and "difficult" hair. I was not disappointed at all! Ms. Robyn took wonderful care of me and was so sweet. It was amazing to get highlights and one of the best haircuts of my life for a fraction of the price.
