I had made my appt. for a photoshoot with my husband. When I called I had told them about my hair and about my makeup. My hair doesn't hold curls well so I was nervous. The owner told me on the phone to do a dry style instead. Which is when I wash at home the morning or night before and come in for just a style. And for my makeup I was also very hesitant. Especially because of my skin tone and I wanted to have a very natural look. Daniella did my makeup. She asked me many questions to make sure she understood the concept I was going for. She was very gentle with the makeup. And was a perfectionist. She has the passion to do makeup and enjoyed it which made the service much more enjoyable. She did a natural tone makeup and didn't have problems with my lashes! It looked great. Maddy did my hair, and my curls stayed on all through my photoshoot and the next day! I couldn't believe it! I visited your salon on September 12th for a blowout, makeup, and lash service and was deeply disappointed with the quality of the service I received. While the blowout was satisfactory, the makeup application was subpar. The stylist applied clips to my hair that ruined the blowout then placed her hands on top of my head several times and applied makeup to the sides of my hair. Additionally, an individual who appeared to be the owner assisted the stylist in applying texture spray without consulting me, despite my request to decline. This attempt to rectify the blowout's flatness only exacerbated the issue. The makeup was excessively light, appearing to be lighter than my skin tone, and was not suitable for mature skin. The powder was also excessive for mature skin. The lashes came off prematurely, and the glue appeared old. The lip stain bled into my upper lip. The stylist's hygiene was unprofessional, emitting an unpleasant odor. During my appointment, the stylist was unable to locate several items and lacked the necessary preparation. After an extended period of waiting, the stylist was unable to resolve the issues. I subsequently rescheduled my appointment for the following day, the 13th, due to the lengthy wait time and my attendance at a family wedding in Homewood. Upon returning to Blo on the 12th around 3:30 I discovered that the salon was empty, with no staff at the ground desk or within the salon. I contacted the salon and attempted to cancel my appointment via phone, text, and app. However, the app indicated that I did not have an appointment. I called on the 13th at 11:00 AM to confirm, as I am aware of Blo's cancellation policy. Despite my attempts to contact the salon, including returning to the salon the day before, the store owner/manager disregarded my dissatisfaction with the service provided on the previous day. Under my appointment in the app, it showed cancellation on the 12th and the morning of the 13th. After calling on the morning of the 13th, the manager informed me that It was not cancel  and would be charged the full amount.  The quality of the service I received did not meet the expectations at all. I come here for a blowout, not a wash and blow dry, and that's all I got. I requested uptown with volume, and my hair is flatter than a deflated balloon. Anytime I'm visiting from my normal location I make sure to set the expectation of volume, movement, lasting for at least 3 days, and should include heavy product usage including mousse and texturizer. I'll be lucky if this lasts a day before it's gross and oily when I typically get 4-5 out of a blowout. Stop selling simple wash and drys as blowouts. read more

I have given this salon chance after chance and the owner always finds a way to be rude. I have never had a problem with any of the stylists as they are all very sweet. However, I was there for a blowout today and the stylist had to run the straightener back through my hair since it was not straight ( I was turned away from the mirror until the end so I could not see it and tell her before). She was super sweet and ran it through to make sure it was straight. My hair is not super long and straightens very easily. The owner came over and said I had gone over the time limit and this happens regularly ( ummm... what and when?!). The stylist reassured me she was talking to her and not me but the owner charged me $15 for an extended time. Which leads me to believe she was talking about me. I have never had an elaborate hairstyle done here (wash, blow dry, and run a straightener through it). I am just very confused on how you can run a business this way and leave costumers feeling like they have done something wrong. Went to Blo in Homewood as a treat for myself for Valentine's Day. The stylist did an amazing job! My hair was so soft and shiny. They had me wash and dry it at home so it would hold the curl better than being freshly washed, and the curls held up so well! My sister took me here as a treat on Saturday. This place is her little get away. We had a wedding to attend later that night. They got us in immediately but we had booked appointments. We were offered drinks as well. They have cokes, water and coffee. You select your style from a menu they hand you. Most blowouts cost about $40 but they have several add ons ranging from $10-$30. I kept mine straight because I was on my sister's ticket. They recommend services throughout but you don't have to get them. It's a business at the end of day and they make their pitches. This would be fun to do for a girl's day. There's a nail place right next door. I enjoyed the vibe here. It was laid back and relaxing. My favorite part was the washing and the delicious smelling shampoo and conditioner. My hair looked great afterwards too. I'll come back, but not during the summer in Alabama lol. I have naturally curly hair and unfortunately the humid weather here doesn't agree with blowouts. I was like Beyoncé "sweating out my blowout," after a few hours. My only complaint is the coupon for $5 off that pops up for checking in, isn't valid at this location according to them. They should try and remove the coupon pop up that shows up when you check in for the location or just honor it since it really does come up when you check in. Yelp uses GPS so it doesn't check you in to another location but the one you're closest to. They prefer cash tips and parking here is limited. They are mainly all weddings and brides talking about the same thing I experienced this past weekend. IDK what's up with Afsheen and her feelings surrounding The Big Day, but she should talk to a professional. She's so manipulative about money that she's been blacklisted by wedding coordinators in the Birmingham, Mountain Brook, and Homewood area. I found that out too late. Hear me now: this all felt super sketchy to me. ‍ DISCLAIMER: A little before midnight on the day of my wedding Afsheen threatened to cancel if I didn't pay her $700 in-full upfront in less than an hour. She set a timer. It felt like a stickup. She upped every charge she initially quoted to me, demanded all her requests be met right away or her team wasn't coming over the next day. And they can change at any moment. Maybe even the nite before! - Social Media: as part of your contract you are obligated to share your face to promote their business. They can take pictures, videos, whatever. She didn't tag me in any of them because she knew she robbed me. - You might say, "oh but I didn't read the rest of the text messages!" After this past weekend we will never go back and will recommed to all we know to avoid. I had booked a regular blow out for my 16 year old for a dance. She went by herself as I had a previous engagement and I wrongly assumed they would just perform the services asked for. Apparently her stylist asked her if she wanted cream to help with frizz without explaining it was extra or how much. Of course she said yes because who wouldn't want that. I was surprised when I received the charge of $20 additional and upon inquiring they refused to believe that it wasn't explained to her and she was deceived. I'm beyond fed up with this place. I've given it chance after chance, but no more. The only concern of this salon is making money. All of their policies are 1 sided. This review is not a result of the way my hair looked, the stylist's work was perfect. I get a blowout each week, but due to unforeseen circumstances I to cancel with my regular stylist & being the week of Christmas, he was booked & it couldn't be rescheduled. I've gone to Blo off & on for about 5 yrs. In the very beginning I was pleased, but then things started to change. This concept is great, but the execution is in need of major change. I have extremely thick hair & I realize this, but the price I was charged was exorbitant. It was $79 for my blowout & then $10 tip. I booked extended time, but that was not enough. It has never taken this length of time to get a blowout anywhere. There was nothing out of the ordinary about the style I requested. It wasn't fancy or for a special occasion. The owner comes over & states that any time over the time booked is $15 for 15 minutes. The initial cost of the blowout was $64 which was for 1hr & 15 minutes. I shouldn't be held responsible for paying for extra due to the fact that this stylist doesn't work as fast as others. That's not on me. If stylists can't do a style in the allotted time, it should be said up front & I should be placed with someone who can. To top it off, the were about 19 minutes late starting. Initially, they tried to charge me for an additional 30 minutes & had I not been watching my clock, they would have. The girl who washed my hair was not the same as the stylist. I asked her to scrub my hair very hard, but the back is still dirty. The website states that you should arrive 5 minutes early. If you're 5 minutes late, they start the clock & charge you for this. Not only was I 5 minutes early, they were 15 minutes late. There was no concession for this. Everything here is one sided. There wasn't even a apology. The owner micromanages all of the stylists watching how much product they use & constantly telling them how long they've been working, or to do something differently, creating a horrible, stressful atmosphere. The turnover due to the treatment of the stylists is ridiculous. It's rare that I see the same stylist. She also steps in to do hair when they are busy. She has no cosmology license. If you look at the places where you can leave reviews, you'll not see hardly anything negative ones bc they get erased. The few that are there have replies from her always placing what went wrong on the client. You're also guilted into tipping (not by the stylist, but by whomever is at the desk). A tip is just that & it's up to the discretion of the client, not something you should be coerced into doing. read more

The blo out and style was very good but I was annoyed right off the bat. They sent me an email saying I needed to arrive 5 minutes early for my appointment and that if I wasn't on time I would be charged for my blo out. So I woke up extra early to make sure I was there ahead of time. I drove down to Homewood from huntsville (about an hour and 45 minute drive) and then I stood outside the building for 20 minutes because the manager with the keys was late. Seriously? So if I'm late they don't take me and they charge me - but if they're late I still have to pay? Hmm - not really great customer service in my opinion. Anna was my stylist (I think that was her name, sorry if it's not!) and she was there early and did a great job trying to make up for the person with the keys being late, they also gave me a free deep conditioner treatment. People like Anna are the ones who need the keys! They did allow me to use their makeup counter to apply my makeup afterwards since I didn't want to be late for my appointment in Birmingham and I do appreciate that as well. First, I want to say that I have no complaints about my stylist or the service I received. My hair looks great, and my stylist was friendly, personable, and very easy to work with. What I *do* have a problem with, though, is the lack of professionalism in the booking and scheduling system. I booked an appointment for 4pm online. Around 1pm the day of the appointment, I got a text asking if I could come in at 3. Trying to be courteous, I switched my schedule around a bit and offered to come in earlier. The person scheduling responded that they didn't know if anyone else would book an earlier appointment, so could I please text them back closer to the time and they'd let me know when I should come in. At about 3:10, I got a text telling me I needed to arrive at 3:30. Thankfully, I work nearby, so I was able to drop what I was in the middle of and be there within 20 minutes, because their late policies are punitively strict. My efforts to be flexible and accommodating in an appointment-based industry -- I assumed they were trying to accommodate a group -- led to my whole afternoon's work being thrown off as I *waited* for someone to tell me a (seemingly arbitrary) time for an appointment I'd previously confirmed online, and then when that time came, I received minimal notice for it and had to rush out the door to make it. For a place that's so quick to punish and blame customers for anything that goes wrong (look at the owner's comments on previous reviews), this business sure needs to get its own house in order. So I came here to get my daughter a blowout (including getting hair washed) with her hair styled in an up do, and makeup. They told me that they we're going to wash her hair and if any makeup smeared or anything they would fix it (they were very passive aggressive) once her hair was washed and now dried my daughter showed the hair stylist the hair style she wanted which was an up do. The manager came over and said it would be extra once again. So I was Confused yet again because I had payed for an up do. The hair did end up looking great but it was a horrible experience and my daughter left crying because she was treated so badly and felt like she was an inconvenience even though they are there for our convince. She also did not like the makeup because she asked for a natural look but the concealer they used was just about white as paper and her skin tone is tan so it did not match. I should also mention that During the appointment my daughters friend was there, and looking back on it I can tell they probably got us confused and gave my daughters appointment to her considering that they took our start time even though theirs was after ours. First of all, I booked 2 days prior and was called and texted 7 times to confirm! 7 times!!! That's ridiculous. The hairdresser teased my hair while blow drying. Who does this to thick hair? And then when I go to pay, they say $60 with dreamcoat. I said I didn't have dreamcoat she forgot. So they say $40. I'm like I booked with a 20% off email. The owner (on the phone) proceeded to question me where I got the discount etc. it was very unprofessional. Blow sent the email!!! Don't treat me like I'm ripping you off when you sent the email! It took 10 minutes to resolve this. My total was $40 before the discount. So let me get this straight-you charge $20 for dreamcoat. It cost less than that for the entire bottle!! I use it at home. What a rip off??? I will never return and this was my 4th visit. I will most certainly leave negative reviews and tell everyone I know including the chamber and better business bureau. read more
