    Went to Blo in Homewood as a treat for myself for Valentine's Day. The stylist did an amazing job! My hair was so soft and shiny. They had me wash and dry it at home so it would hold the curl better than being freshly washed, and the curls held up so well! The make up look was inspired by Taylor Swift's bold red lip look from the Grammy's, and it was spot on! I felt pampered, beautiful, and confident!

    My sister took me here as a treat on Saturday. This place is her little get away. We had a wedding to attend later that night. They got us in immediately but we had booked appointments. We were offered drinks as well. They have cokes, water and coffee. You select your style from a menu they hand you. Most blowouts cost about $40 but they have several add ons ranging from $10-$30. I kept mine straight because I was on my sister's ticket. They recommend services throughout but you don't have to get them. It's a business at the end of day and they make their pitches. This would be fun to do for a girl's day. There's a nail place right next door. I enjoyed the vibe here. It was laid back and relaxing. My favorite part was the washing and the delicious smelling shampoo and conditioner. My hair looked great afterwards too. I'll come back, but not during the summer in Alabama lol. I have naturally curly hair and unfortunately the humid weather here doesn't agree with blowouts. I was like Beyoncé "sweating out my blowout," after a few hours. My only complaint is the coupon for $5 off that pops up for checking in, isn't valid at this location according to them. They should try and remove the coupon pop up that shows up when you check in for the location or just honor it since it really does come up when you check in. Yelp uses GPS so it doesn't check you in to another location but the one you're closest to. They prefer cash tips and parking here is limited. You'll have to drive around the block most likely.

    BRIDES & WEDDINGS BEWARE!!! AVOID AVOID AVOID I should have read more reviews for this place TBH but I was too busy planning everything else for The Big Day. So I collected all these screenshots of bridal wedding reviews regarding the owner of this BloBar for you to read. You can find them too. Just search for "wedding" or filter the lowest first. They are mainly all weddings and brides talking about the same thing I experienced this past weekend. IDK what's up with Afsheen and her feelings surrounding The Big Day, but she should talk to a professional. She's so manipulative about money that she's been blacklisted by wedding coordinators in the Birmingham, Mountain Brook, and Homewood area. I found that out too late. Hear me now: this all felt super sketchy to me. ‍ DISCLAIMER: A little before midnight on the day of my wedding Afsheen threatened to cancel if I didn't pay her $700 in-full upfront in less than an hour. She set a timer. It felt like a stickup. She upped every charge she initially quoted to me, demanded all her requests be met right away or her team wasn't coming over the next day. I would not receive my 50% deposit back. Two screenshots are attached near the end of this post so you can read it for yourself. About the team: get outta there, ladies. Y'all are so talented and you deserve to be treated like queens. You are her strength!! Don't let her manipulate you like she manipulated me. There is not enough money in the world to deal with ~whatever all this is~ every day. I'd personally like to HIGHLY recommend y'all reach out to Yara thru her Instagram (@BeautyBy.Yara_) for a private booking. She absolutely killed my wedding look. Brides, here are few more things to consider before deciding to Blo your Big Day: - It's $125 per service & the hair options are weakkkk for what I consider a HAIR salon. That price means no updo, no braid, no blow out for $125 + a "contractually mandatory 20% tip"? Good god. It's essentially a flat iron and a curling iron. Her prices are insane. And they can change at any moment. Maybe even the nite before! - Social Media: as part of your contract you are obligated to share your face to promote their business. They can take pictures, videos, whatever. She didn't tag me in any of them because she knew she robbed me. - You might say, "oh but I didn't read the rest of the text messages!" I can talk more about my experience. I have more screenshots. If this gets a response, I can provide a google folder with the complete conversation. UPDATE: messages were removed by the owner due to yelp's privacy restrictions. You can email me for more details. - Let's go back to tipping for a second. My family was fully prepared to treat this staff RIGHT on the Big Day with a MUCH LARGER TIP than the required 20% to make up for any hard feelings but your "contractually mandated" number worked out just fine I guess. ‍ Afsheen, despite your best efforts you didn't ruin my perfect day. If it wasn't for Laura and Yara sweeping in to clean up your mess, this review would be so much worse. Call me anytime and I'll tell you where you can Blo it. Mrs. Tavi UPDATE TO THE OWNERS RESPONSE BELOW: regardless of any "last minute changes" (I asked for a blow out from a blowout bar - even offered to provide tools or figure out solutions) how you handled this situation was entirely inappropriate. You chose to be threatening and hostile the night before my wedding. This whole interaction felt like a quick money scam and multiple brides have experienced this behavior from you. You've removed the text messages from my review, but I want to warn future brides that you now have developed a reputation for bad business. Please note this non-apology.

    The blo out and style was very good but I was annoyed right off the bat. They sent me an email saying I needed to arrive 5 minutes early for my appointment and that if I wasn't on time I would be charged for my blo out. So I woke up extra early to make sure I was there ahead of time. I drove down to Homewood from huntsville (about an hour and 45 minute drive) and then I stood outside the building for 20 minutes because the manager with the keys was late. Seriously? So if I'm late they don't take me and they charge me - but if they're late I still have to pay? Hmm - not really great customer service in my opinion. Anna was my stylist (I think that was her name, sorry if it's not!) and she was there early and did a great job trying to make up for the person with the keys being late, they also gave me a free deep conditioner treatment. People like Anna are the ones who need the keys! They did allow me to use their makeup counter to apply my makeup afterwards since I didn't want to be late for my appointment in Birmingham and I do appreciate that as well. I'll chalk this up to opening month confusion and I'll give them another chance in the future - I'll update my review at that time.

    I had an awesome experience with Keslie today. She gave me gorgeous tousled waves. She let me know all my options for add ons that would be beneficial to me not just upselling. There was an issue with check out and she was so incredibly kind and patient.

    Unprofessionalism at its finest. They do not even know their own policies. The stylist rushed. However, the makeup artist was excellent.

My experience here was extremely disappointing, aside from my initial consultation with Angelika on Oct. 20th. During the consult, I explained that my main goal was to blend my 3-month gray grow-out into something easier to maintain. I showed her photos of the soft gray-blended look I wanted, and she never once said it couldn't be achieved in one session. She filled out a laminated service card with the exact services and prices required, and I booked based on that information. On Oct. 28th, I arrived for the first color appointment. After reviewing the same photos again, Angelika brought over another stylist, and they decided to add a shadow root. When she finished, my hair looked nothing like what I asked for--I left with blue roots and barely any blonde. She apologized and said she'd fix it at my next scheduled appointment on Nov. 12, which included both the correction and a keratin treatment. Since she promised it would all be handled then, I trusted her. When checking out that day, I was charged $393.32--lower than the quote--but still tipped 20% because she said she planned to fix everything. My total came to $471.98. On Nov. 12th, I showed up expecting the correction and the keratin, as previously discussed. Instead, I was told I had to choose one service because she hadn't booked enough time. I chose the keratin since that's what she had scheduled. Afterward, while checking out, the front desk tried charging me $476 instead of the quoted $315, saying I "hadn't paid enough" at the first visit and they needed to collect an additional $40. This was never communicated. They removed one $40 error, but I still ended up paying $456.54. After realizing that I had now spent over $900 and still didn't have anything close to the color I asked for, I messaged Angelika directly through the contact card she provided. She read the message but never replied. When I called the salon to review the charges, another error was found and I was refunded $48.29--even though their written policies state they "don't offer refunds." It was clear I had been overcharged multiple times. I reached out again to clarify my Dec. 1 correction appointment. The salon later texted me saying Angelika felt she only owed me a base color and blow-dry, and that I would have to pay for the foil and toner--another $274. This would have pushed the total cost of this disaster to well over $1,200. They also claimed that my desired gray-blended look takes multiple sessions, something never mentioned in the consult or at any point before taking my money. Angelika had expressed total confidence that she could achieve the look. At this point, nothing made sense. How can stylists turn dark brown hair into pink, purple, or blue in a single appointment, yet somehow blending soft gray tones supposedly requires multiple expensive sessions? Either they lack the skill or they are price-gouging. I'm sharing this to save others from the time, money, and frustration I experienced. Always take a photo of the laminated service card--they rely on it, and you should too. My before photo, the inspiration photos I provided, and the results I left with were not remotely aligned. My 3-month gray grow-out is gone, and I paid nearly a thousand dollars for a result I never asked for.
