My first appointment with Wendy was for a cut and she did a great job on my hair. Second appointment was for color, lowlight and some highlight. She did the color beautifully and mine is not an easy head to color. Some brands of color pull red in my fine ashy hair but Phyto does not. It is gentle, does not smell and the color is really nice. Wendy is personable and easy to be with. I like the salon because it is clean, modern with diverse stylists and clientele. I am looking forward to my next appointment with Wendy! read more

After 15 years with my hair lady, she officially retired and I was going into panic mode trying to find a stylist. I came to Izear for a relaxer and trim and am so glad I did. My review is for Stylist Tina - she is great and knows what she's doing!! I HIGHLY recommend seeing Tina for amazing haircuts and perfect color/highlights EVERY time. Tina has been doing my hair since I moved to Pittsburgh 2.5 years ago. I have naturally thin, straight, brown hair. She works some sort of magic with my cut because with very little styling, it always looks voluminous and perfectly frames my face. I'm always extremely happy with my color - I've been highlighting it for a year or so now and it looks very natural. I get more compliments on my hair color than I ever have before. I have been to the studio twice since it is really convenient, and I don't mind paying for a great cut. The first time my cut was iffy and the stylist was a bit rude. The second time, it was terrible. I asked for a 'professional' color and cut and i wound up with oange, messy looking hair. I actually asked the stylist to redo the color once since it was so bad, but the second time was no better. I cut my losses and left. As I was paying the woman at the desk asked how everything was. I was about to answer about my displeasure but she didn't even wait for me to answer. Needless to say, I will be taking my orange, messy hair to someone else to be fixed. read more

My stylist, Lyndsay, practically had me punch a time clock in her haste to get me out of the salon within 30 minutes of my haircut appointment. She was in such a rush that she neglected to use any styling products and only used a flat iron on one side of my head. The haircut itself looks like a bad version of "the Rachel" from Friends. Very outdated and nothing like the modern layered cut that I had requested. In addition, Lyndsay was very curt and seemed to be in a bad mood. $65.00 for that? Never again! This was hands down my worst experience at a salon. I got my hair colored while traveling, and it faded extremely quickly. I got recommendations for a Pittsburgh based salon, and found studio booth. They got me in quickly, were extremely nice, the experience was pleasant, but the results were terrible. The problem is that they didn't listen to me. I told them how my hair faded, they told me why they thought it faded, and said it would be a color correction to fix my fade. I agreed to what they said, and they started dying my hair. As they processed my hair, I told them that what they were doing was the exact same thing the previous stylist had done. I even knew that it was a two-in-one step process because the previous stylist had explained it to me. I expressed I was extremely worried they were just repeating something that didn't work once, and it wouldn't work again. They assured me they were experts (the quoted price made me believe that!) and that the hair wouldn't fade as quickly. My hair was stunning when I walked out the door. The stylist was skilled, the whole staff was very nice, but they discarded that I knew what I was talking about, and simply repeated a previous mistake. For whatever reason, my hair doesn't take that coloring system. I'm okay paying to learn that once (my hair being weird isn't a stylists fault!) but when the second place ignores when you tell them that it isn't going to work, that this just happened, and you are in the color correction chair because of this problem, the stylist should listen. In short, I spent $300 to have a color correction that was the exact same thing a previous stylist did; the same thing that sent me in for the color correction in the first place! (Well, to be fair, it was $250 plus $50 of product they claimed would keep the red from fading. My hair faded from dark red to ugly splotchy pink in three shampoos - a shorter amount of time than the first stylist's red took to fade.) Learn from my mistakes (and wasted $300). Don't go here for extreme color, don't go here if you have anything other than easy to color hair, and most certainly do not go here if you need a color correction. read more

I am new to the Pittsburgh area and was in desperate need of a pedi. A friend suggested Studio Booth and we ended up going together for a little girl time. The atmosphere was very sophisticated and high end. The fire place in the waiting area gets you all warm and cozy before your appt. too! I made a cup of coffee and was ready for my pedicure. The area is small (only three chairs) but very clean. You can even watch the hottest fashions from Paris on the flat screen. Now I have had lots of pedicures from all types of places and I would put my Studio Booth Pedicure at the top of the list! Not only did the technician take her time, but the polish lasted for over 4 weeks. No chipping or cracking!! It is a little pricey- $40, but worth ever penny!! I've been getting my hair done by Heather at Studio Booth for about 1.5 years now. She is fabulous!!! I met Heather after a stylist at another salon really botched my hair color. Thankfully Heather rescued my hair and has been doing a fabulous job caring for my tresses ever since! I have long (past shoulders), straight hair, and I really appreciate that Heather (1) is extremely careful when coloring my hair to make sure it stays healthy, and (2) is not overzealous when trimming my hair, like so many other stylists are! Like to chat? She's a good conversationalist. Need to chill? Don't worry, she leave you to your thoughts. She's very client-oriented-- to an extent that is not seen much anymore. Studio Booth is very clean and comfortable. Everyone seems pleasant and helpful. Wifi available. So unhappy. I came home to Pittsburgh from school in desperate need of a haircut and color. I have naturally very dark, espresso colored hair, but over the summer I lightened my hair, and I had a beautiful ginger color with a slightly darker shade in the back. My hair is also incredibly long and thick, but easily manageable -- a great type of hair for ANY hairstylist. Anyways, I heard about Booth and it seemed great so I booked an appointment. While my appt was at the end of the day, I didn't expect to be greeted with such a blase and tired attitude. That was the first annoyance. Next, I was shuffled over to the color counter and I explained what I wanted: a rich copper color, I even had a picture. The cut was also simple enough, I wanted my long layers fixed up and all of my split ends taken away. Additionally, I asked for an exaggerated layer on top a la "the middy" haircut (think pin-up/1940s). This, I was told, was easily doable. Well, much to my dismay, my hair did not turn out as I had hoped. The cut was fine for what it was, which was basically a trim, but not what I wanted. She took off a couple of inches, which was fine as it was desperately needed, but I left with no style, no shape. Essentially, I got a nice trim for the price of a small dog. The color was the real issue. Not only did my hair turn out to be 4-5 different shades of red in different places, but it was no where near the copper shade I asked for, not even in the same family of hue or tone. The roots at the front of my hairline are drastically brighter than any other part of my hair, while my ends are a dark purple/auburn shade when I specifically asked to have NO purple or blue in my hair. Worst of all, because of the lighting in Studio Booth, I didn't realize all of this until I was outside, in the rain, and their doors were locked. The next day, while I was searching desperately for a salon to correct this atrocity, it looked even worse. I certainly won't be going to Studio Booth again. read more

I love Raymond but liked him better when he was solo. Not a diverse atmosphere. The owner walks around & doesn't speak to the clients, people spend alot of money there. The least he can do is say hello or make eye contact. I waited while Gary shampooed 2 orher women with foils n their hair. Stall tactic was he put in a special conditioner. But , clearly took the other 2 women 1st because he was passively aggressively being summoned by other staff 2 get their clients done. Further my appt was @ 11am I didnt leave until after 2. Lyndsay Clark cuts my hair and does my highlights and she is phenomenal! She is so good that I make the trip from DC to Pittsburgh only to get my hair done! Lyndsay takes the time to meet with you at the beginning and really listen to what you are looking for. She is personable and extremely talented! I have blonde hair and she makes my highlights look natural and you would never know that I get my hair highlighted! She also does a fantastic job with up-dos! I think this salon is good for hair and makeup....but that's it. Our bridal party went in this past Saturday, 8/2/14, for manis, pedis, hair, and makeup The manis and pedis weren't performed very well - our bridal party consisted of 5 girls..and all of them noticed the lack of quality. However, makeup and hair were done well by Claire and Wendy, they're awesome. Besides the people who serviced me, multiple members of my bridal party noticed the dismal customer service we received. Come on, we came in as a bridal party, and we did not receive the common courtesy and care that we expected...one of my friends saw an employee visibly roll her eyes at us. We weren't loud and boisterous; we were just a group of girls in their mid-20s for a bridal party - and that kind of behavior is not warranted, especially if you're in a service industry like a salon. Loved this place; first time visitor. Beautiful, clean, airy salon. They asked if you want lemonade or iced tea when you walk in the door; very welcoming and diverse. I don't know if they change the blankets between clients which could be a hygiene issue b./c the blanket on the salon bed that you lie down on looked rumpled and used- maybe a yuk factor for some. She puts a small clean towel at the end for your feet to go on top- just don't let your bare skin touch the used blanket. Beautiful supply and display of brushes, shampoo, and skin care. Ask for Grace for eyebrows! Charge is very reasonable @ $20.00 for eyebrow wax and shaping. She does a beautiful job, thorough, and a nice arch. read more

cool shi shi salon (shi shi AKA Sheik, classy overpriced and contemporary [via. wikipedia]) - great modern ambiance (air plants, live orchids and tropical plants everywhere!!) lots of front desk staff and assistants bustling everywhere - with the amazing number of helpers and stylists i expected a pricey but relaxing afternoon. i had a general root touch up dye, low-lights and a blowout (and a complimentary glass of water,) and generally had an all around satisfying time. i did not get a haircut, style, pedi/mani or any other service. reason for 3 stars instead of 4: big shock and wtf was the $160.00+ bill. i mean, c'mon, i know East Liberty is becoming quite gentrified, but this is still Pittsburgh. i moved here from San Francisco and NEVER paid this much for a dye/blowout. read more

He is such a talented stylist with a great eye for color and always represents a fashion forward look when styling me. With Andrew, I simply sit in the chair and "trust in him" to do what's right for me. I am always blissfully delighted! The salon is top notch professional, elegant and edgy. Beware! The price that is quoted to you when you make an appointment may not be the one that is charged to you upon leaving! Visiting Pittsburgh for an event, I made an appointment for a shampoo and blow dry for my short hair . The price quoted was $45 with NO information that the price could be varied for any reason. When I checked out, I was told the cost was $60.00!!!! The desk person told me she never gives a quote & that the price depends on the length of hair (I have short) and the stylist?! ... I had a special stylist??? Why? My two sisters were charged $45 for the same service (as had been quoted) that day. $60.00!!! for a simple shampoo and blow dry for short hair. Fine BUT at least the client should be aware of that possibility upfront. Very disappointing. Very unprofessional. read more

I went to Studio Booth for a manicure and pedicure and the woman who did my pedicure cut my toe nails so badly that I now have ingrown nails on both toes. I called them and complained and I was hoping, at least, to be reimbursed for the visit since I had many pedicure done in my life and this never ever happened to me. They said that they couldn't do anything but they were sorry... The place is very nice and clean I just think they should be careful who they hire! My advise is to go elsewhere since I spent ten days at home and could not walk and I might still have to do a partial nail extraction at the doctor's office next week. read more

After aggressively bidding on it, I won the Studio Booth basket at a charity event. That was in August of 2014. I'm actually a stylist at another great salon in the area and I had heard awesome things about Studio Booth- specifically about Gary and his amazing shampoos. So, I was super excited to check it out... Partly for market research, and partly for the pampering you don't get when working in a high volume atmosphere. The basket was a dream, filled with many (mostly full size!) Sebastian hair products, and a few samples of the Babor skincare system. I love trying new products, and it was awesome. However the GC for the hair services was not actually in the basket. Not sure why, but whatever, so I called the salon to inquire about what the GC actually included. Long story short, after leaving 2 messages, getting no response, following up and subsequently speaking with 4 different people over a week, I was finally was able to talk to a manager.... And she was so rude; abrasive and impatient. I just wanted to know what the details were, and planned on using the gift certificate at a later date. I was told the info was on file (since there was not a tangible GC in the basket) and it would be noted. So, when I called a few weeks later to make the appointment there was no record of anything. The receptionist was really helpful, I think her name was Summer?, and she took my info so the manager could call me back.... This happened twice. I'm not quite sure why that was even necessary, but I do know that no one ever called me back. After that I guess I didn't care enough to pursue it; if that's the atmosphere, no thanks. read more

I'm sorry I got my hair cut there. My hairstylist gave me a chop here and a chop there and was done. Then she styled it in 4 minutes and my hair became "big" like bozo the clown. They can provide any beauty service you want. My stylist is Stephanie. I followed her from another Salon. Stephanie is an artist. She listens to your ideas and requests and turns your words into a perfect cut. She answers questions and makes sure you know how to care for your style.Stephanie has an eye for color and highlights, she considers all possibilities and has given my hair the most lovely shades. As a woman with 60 year old hair, and a lot of gray, I can tell you I look and feel great when Stephanie is done. And I am confident that at home I will be able to style my hair myself. i've been here a few times .. for a mani/pedi and waxing services which were awesome! i highly recommended andrea for waxing she makes you feel comfortable and is fast and friendly. i loved my mani/pedi but it was quite expensive. i did get my haircut here once and at first i loved it but when i got home i realized it was uneven in the back and my layers in the front were also uneven. so meh for hair but great for waxing! it is a bit of a drive for me so i dont get out there much anymore but check it out. read more

I am new to Pittsburgh and bounced from high end salon to high end salon. Studio Booth is the worst!! John colored and --unfortunately hacked, I mean, cut my hair. I told him repeatedly throughout my visit how I was nervous for anyone to cut my hair after a previous stylist cut too much length off. I protested when he got out his scissors. He claimed he was going to angle the cut a bit more toward my face, as my layers were already angled. He destroyed my hair. I looked like John Stamos circa (Full House)1992 or a crazy version of Rod Stewart. Mortified!!!!!! When I called the next day crying about my horrible hair, he never returned my call. I want to thank Izear for all he has done for my hair. He has treated my hair with care and the service is wonderful.

First off - my hair cut was not bad, it looked good. It was simply cut WAY to short after I had repeatedly told the guy cutting my hair not to cut it short. My main complaint (and the reason I will not go back) is with the customer service I received from the owner of the salon. I was so upset about the length of my hair that I asked to speak to someone. It was late in the day and only the owner was there, his response was well its a nice cut, what do you want me to do about it? He acted like he didn't even care that I had repeatedly asked for only an inch off max and got two or three. He offered me nothing, I was expecting a refund for my cut (none of the highlighting or waxing services of course). He was rude and condescending about the whole thing. I was still upset about it the next day so I decided (after sleeping on it and doing some internet searching on what to do in the situation) to go back and ask for a refund for my cut. It wasn't really about the $50 as much as it was the principal of it...I did not get what I was asking for and i should not have had to pay. Well, the woman I spoke with that day was extremely nice - some sort of front desk manager. She recognized that my hair was really short, seemed like she genuinely felt bad, and was very pleasant. However, she said it was not their policy to give refunds, but rather a gift certificate. I told her if I had not been treated poorly by the owner, I would gladly come back since my cut wasn't all that bad, but I had no desire too and that I wanted a refund. There was no way (unless I wanted to wait days so she could talk to one of the owners and then MAYBE I would get a refund). Finally after a little back and fourth I realized it was not going to happen and I didn't want to go back so I asked her if she had a product that would make me hair grown because that's all I really wanted. They did, it was some sort of $50 supplement but it was better than having a gift card I wouldn't use. I can't tell if its working and its been a couple of weeks. Lesson learned, if you're not satisfied here, don't expect a refund and don't talk to the owner. If you like knowing you're going to a place with great customer service and owners that care, don't go here. read more
