I said in my first review I would go to Studio FX as long as I lived in the Anchorage area, which was true, and even now having lived in another state for several years I still come here when I'm in town. I visit Alaska twice a year and every time Ashley manages to fit me in. She was doing my hair today and informed me someone found my old review helpful so I thought I'd update it to say I love Ashley and Studio FX so much I still come here to get my hair done even though I live in another state now. Everything I said in my first review still stands. The salon is clean and comfortable with plenty of plants on the wall. In addition to the services, they have a lot of great salon products and some cute things by local artists, including stickers and jewelry. Highly recommend Studio FX! read more

I had a consult for a curl permanent, so glad they do this so we're not surprised after the perm. They are completely honest after testing one rod, I appreciate their opinion and wouldn't want to take a chance having my hair break or change color if we went ahead without testing. Wonderful experience; I highly recommend this salon. The appointment was fabulously fantastic! I had the appointment a couple days after what I thought was my back being thrown out (turns out it's actually a fracture and snapped out joint), so you can imagine how much pain I was in, and I can't stand up on my own etc... well that was treated so well and I was helped up, made sure I felt comfy and it was above and beyond hands down. The friendliest group of women and the energy in there was off the charts positive vibes. Maggie was just beaming with joy and kindness and an obvious love for her career as a stylist. My hair came out of beautiful; I wanted to cut my dead ends but she showed me I don't have any rather than just charge me for an unnecessary option. We did a balayage and it's gorgeous (of course NOW I want it even lighter lol but that is me deciding a day after lol). She even gave me tips how to maintain certain looks I want . The Studio FX team are rockstars! I've been going to this salon for years and have always received the best service from the moment I walk in the door. Holly is my stylist and she is amazing! I consistently get compliments on my cut and color and the only reason I hesitate to tell folks who I see is that I don't want her so booked that I can't get in. I especially love that she always ends a service letting me know that if I don't completely love it, to give her a call so she has the opportunity make adjustments. The second stylist I had was the complete opposite ..very poor treatment of my hair overlapping & uneven color touchup, missing sections of my gray. I had my color touched up out of state a week later & had professional moisturizing or glazing treatment to re-moisturize the over processed damaged hair. I came here based on the reviews on Yelp for bridal hair. This was a horrible experience. I told her what my vision was, which was hair to the side and curls to flow down. Needless to say, it all came out wrong! There was nothing special that she did that I couldn't do. I had to tell her to change it up a few times because it was just not looking right. At the end, she didn't even put a mirror to my hair for me to see what it looks like or asked if I was content about it. She finished up, stood me up and just walked me up to pay. I had been up since 5am running around setting up my venue and picking up last minute things. Obviously, I just didn't have the energy to deal with it. In my head I thought how bad could it really be. She said all bobby pins were hidden (which they weren't if you look at my picture). It was just ugly messy hair, that looked like it was put together in 5 minutes. I ended up crying when I got to my hotel to get ready. The hair was so hideous. I had a few of my bridesmaids and girlfriends take it down and start over with something else. What my friends put together was beautiful. Awesome job Studio FX! COVID has added additional pressure - they are doing it right! You cannot go into the salon unless you have an appt, and are actively in the chair, hand sanitizer in several spots, plenty of room between clients, wash basin sanitized after every use, masks required and of course the station is sanitized. I really love it here. I love the whole setup, the fact that it's a learning salon, and the care everyone brings. You can tell everybody loves what they are doing and wants you to love it too. I came in for an ombré, but know not everything can be done to my hair. It ended up less of an ombré at first, but an absolutely gorgeous color that I felt bad saying ehhh. The owner looked and said ah yeah, we should add this in because it's what you want. Rather than anybody getting upset, the hairdresser I had, me, and the owner all worked through it together to get what I wanted. Honestly though, the kindness and patience was just so amazing. She is very personable and more importantly, a skilled hair dresser with lots of experience. I like the salon and the people who work there are quite friendly and accommodating to a client's needs.
