Was on a quest to find a place that can actually cut hair decent. My quest continues after a horrible haircut at the loft. The woman that cut my hair had been there "the longest." I asked to have my hair cleaned up a bit as I had let it grow out a little after a very bad haircut somewhere else. Said what I wanted and didn't want. Without further ado she swiped one side with clippers shaving by head almost to skin. I was like "whoa whoa what are you doing?" She said "oh, I guess I should have asked how short, oh well, we are committed now. Looks like it grows fast though." What? That's it? She proceeded to hack up the top a bit and then left me looking like Beaker from the muppets. Now a few weeks to let it grow out and try another place. I would avoid this place and the nonchalant attitude when they jack up a haircut. read more

I have been going to Mandy for 10+years. I have had long hair and short haircuts. Mandy is conservative when cutting length and always does a thorough job. Short cuts are precise. I often go in not knowing what I want and Mandy always helps me figure it out before she starts cutting. I brought my son to her a few years ago due to some not so great cuts he had received at other salons. He is very picky and Mandy makes sure he leaves happy with his haircut. The staff at the loft is always friendly and work well as a team. I would highly recommend if they are taking new clients. read more

I went to get a haircut here with Minsong,Kim after not having one for a while. I had pretty long hair and I told the hair stylist I wanted as little off the length as possible. She cut off about 5 inches of my hair. I didn't realize until the damage was already done. I let her know I wasn't very happy with it because so much length was taken off and she told me it was because I asked for layers. I also feel like the overall haircut is not what I asked for. She was very nice and had good customer service, but I never want to get a haircut again. read more

Heidi is a hair magician! I was pretty apprehensive about coming to a new hair designer, but I put my kinky curly 2 tone gray-black hair into her hands and Wowza. She not only exceeded my expectations with the color, highlight, cut. The fact that she is the very first designer to actually take the time and straighten my hair spoke volumes. It only took her like 10 minutes to style my coarse, kinky curly hair into beautiful, bouncy soft curls. Omg and the other designers were doing AMAZING colors and cuts too. Worst haircut EVER! Two weeks ago I went in for a haircut and showed Alissa a picture of the style I wanted. Apparently she had her own idea. She kept snipping and snipping the back until it was just over 1". When she cut the top it was only about 2" - just long enough to stick straight up. When she started to cut my hair to go around behind my ears. I said I wanted the hair to go over my ears. She cut it to barely go over my ears but thinned it out. I told her I wanted the bangs to be cut longer, which she did, but also thinned them out. I can't wait for 6 months to go by so my hair will grow out enough to look decent. read more

Just got some lowlights and a trim. I have always been so happy with this place, their staff and stylists. They have safe protocols in place - wear a mask, use sanitizer on your way in, and limited number of clients to accommodate social distancing. Sarah Sonnentag is absolutely amazing! Sarah is the first hair dresser that I have went to that actually understands how to work with my hair type and texture (fine and wavy/curly). I used to bounce around to whichever stylist could fit me in at the moment (resulting in randomly horrendous results!). But, I've been going to her for 3+years now, and have never been disappointed. Sarah is a fantastic colorist and I always receive compliments on my highlights/lowlights. She really understands how quickly my type of hair takes color and how to avoid damaging it. Sara also helped me pick extensions for my wedding that worked with my lifestyle and budget. Even my childhood friend (who is also a hair stylist) didn't realize they weren't real. Sarah is a stylist that will always be on top of the game, as she is constantly seeking opportunities to expand and diversify her talent. I would strongly recommend her to anyone! read more

I've been going to Sarah Sonnentag, who works at The Loft, for several years now. I've never been so happy with a hairstylist. She continually educates herself on the newest trends and techniques of hair design. She knows what looks good for every person and is able to work with all hair types. My whole family goes to Sarah too and I always recommend her since I'm constantly receiving compliments on my hair. Even when I don't have any idea of what I want to do with my hair, Sarah comes up with something incredibly awesome. $50 for a haircut without a shampoo... a bit steep for Anchorage. The receptionist was polite. I did get a bit tired of hearing one of the stylists tell everyone that her husband or boyfriend let a dog they were watching out into her living room unsupervised. She complained that he texted her at work and she kept saying, "I'm busy at work! Duh!" Yet she had time to loudly tell the receptionist and call a few other people on the phone to vent about domestic issues. Not exactly the relaxing atmosphere I expected. read more

Very poor customer service. Concerns not addressed. Website prices out of date. I've had Brazilian Blowouts for 8 years now and recently moved to Anchorage so I needed to find a new salon. I made an appt and was put with Alyssa in August 2016. Everything was going good until she went to flat iron my hair and I noticed she was grabbing big chunks of my hair and not doing the amount of passes the Brazilian Blowout company recommends with the flat iron. I did say something to her as she was doing it but she told me "not to worry, I know what I am doing." I went to pay and they charged me $250 when their website listed $200 as the cost. They told me that the website was "not up to date" and still charged me $250 and said they would update their website. I noticed after the treatment I did not get the same results as I normally do. I got a haircut two weeks after my blowout at a different salon and my stylist actually recommended me to get a Brazilian Blowout cause she noticed all my frizz! I am usually frizz free 4 months after each blowout so I decided to call The Loft and relay my concerns with the manager, Whitney, three weeks after my treatment. She listed to my concerns and told me she would talk to the stylist and get back to me and we would teach some sort of agreement. I never heard back from Alyssa or Whitney or anyone from The Loft ever again. I feel like I lost a good amount of money at The Loft Hair Design and I feel like my concerns were not addressed. I am new to Anchorage so I could have been a long term customer, yet here I am writing a review so other ppl don't get treated the same way. And I checked the website before posting this, the Brazilian Blowout still says $200 on their website. Thanks for reading! read more

I recently had my hair colored at the loft by Alyssa, and requested that we cover my highlights and have my hair blended to match the lighter brown at the roots of my hair. After being shown a few color swatches she selected a light brown and went to work. The end result was that my hair was about a level two brown, which is one shade away from black. Alyssa told me she could bleach shampoo it, but could not guarantee the results I wanted, she told me that I was just shocked because I was so used to the blonde, but I believe she used the incorrect coloring. She told me to call and come in on monday, which I did, she was not there and would not return my calls until tuesday. The way this was handled was unprofessional and I will not be going back again, she ruined my hair. read more

Wife was so upset last night being there till 11pm!! That she couldn't even complain how bad it was. Cried whole way home!
