From start to finish, she made me feel pampered by offering me magazines, water, and juice. In fact, the entire staff's hella friendly. Like a virgin, I was getting color for the very first time. =) I requested super-subtle Balayage highlights (hand-painted for a graduated, natural-looking effect) mostly near the bottom which ended up being a single process. I was there for a total of 1.5 hours which included a finishing blow dry. Joelle recommended not having to come back for at least a couple months for touch ups or at all if I wanted to just let it go. They say that once you go black you never go back! This is a true story folks, but when your black hair meets a hair dresser like Joelle with skillz the rest is history! So let me tell you that from the minute I walked in I felt taken care of. No pretentiousness, but a real chill vibe, and a staff that knew what they were doing. Joelle took a look at my hair, assessed my current mood, and gave me my options. Basically she said she could do whatever I wanted, but I have black hair Joelle! Joelle was super chill and confident that she could flip the script. I got there at 12 and left at 5pm, it didn't even seem that long because these ladies really make you feel comfortable. The color lift is a long process and I was afraid of having uneven tones, but once I had my hair washed I was extemely pleased. I asked for a V shaped hair cut with long bangs, I got what I wanted and I have washed my hair since and it still feels soft. Even with all the torture my hair was put through, I believe it was that special hair martini that was applied to. Loved the presentation of the martini, but I appreciate the softness and managibnility it provided my hair. It was a mix of hair toner and conditioner. I love my hair and the price was fair too. The truth is I've lived in NJ for about a year now and can honeslty say I found my new hair dresser. I mean this is a big deal, a big piece of my life was missing, but now complete. Very disappointed....called yesterday 10/17 to see if they were open on Sunday. I was told that there was one stylist on - Cindy and that I could come in at 2:30. Well I am here and they are closed. Not happy with my haircut. I wanted a simple layered haircut and specially took an appointment with Stephanie. My hair is uneven. There's no layers. It's weird. It doesn't feel like a new look at all. Stephanie was in fact asking me how to do it. I understand that she didn't want to mess up my hair probably but that doesn't mean you ask me to how get the layers right? I don't effing know how to do layers! I'm not a hair stylist. So disappointed. On top of that my $50 haircut was made $60 and after asking 2-3 times to recheck, they made it $50 again. I basically got a half inch trim for $50. I could have gone to Supercuts for that. Made a mistake coming to studio J looking for an 'experienced stylist'. I mean a layered haircut is probably the most common look out there. I am VERY picky about my hair and who's hands I allow in it, ESPECIALLY when those hands have a scissor in them!! But Alex at Studio J has yet to let me down! Shes given me a beautiful blonde balayage from my boxed dye black hair to a beautiful light look, and back to black again after a year with the lighter look. This salon is up on all the latest color trends and product. Joelle is the owner and she has a great team. They are super friendly and accomodating. Rose is the best stylist I've ever had, and I've tried many. I've been going to her for years, going with her when she moved to a new salon. She treats every haircut like a work of art. She is meticulous and attentive to requests; I never worry that I will end up with a style I didn't ask for (everyone has a horror story like that). My hair is very fine and requires a skilled hand to give it shape. She keeps up to date with the latest funky styles and is eager to try bold looks, but gives equally beautiful classic cuts. I found this salon on IG and I decided to give it a chance. I called on a Friday to make an appointment and they were able to fit me in for Saturday morning. They recommended Rose because I mentioned that I have verrryyyyy curly hair. Rose greeted me as soon as I walked in and we discussed exactly what I wanted to do. She took her time and gave me tips on how to wear my hair natural (which was my goal). In the end, I wound up cutting off over a foot of hair and I LOVE it. It is exactly what I wanted and for the first time in my life I didn't have to go home and fix a blowout. I just became a new client to Studio J and I have to say I admire the professionalism this place has to offer. When you walk in they are very quick to attend to you. They ask if you'd like something to drink and just give off a true feel of being comfortable and having it all be about the client. I get my hair done by Rose and she is truly amazing. Her love for what she does so greatly reflects in the work she does. I went from a very dark brown/almost black to a nice golden honey and I love the work. She come highly recommended to me.
