We were visiting San Diego on a family vacation and wanted to have family photos taken at the beach. I spent quite a bit of time researching photographers and reading helpful reviews on Yelp. I loved Merima's work and she received rave review from her clients - lucky for us, she was available during our visit. From our first email exchange to discuss the photo session and location, Merima was professional and friendly. Our session was at Windansea Beach which is beautiful. I have two sons, and they were enamored with the tide pools at the beach...the tide pools were far more interesting to look at than the camera. Merima was patient with the boys and captured some amazing photos. I couldn't be happier with our photos, we got the perfect mix of posed photos along with candid shots. This review is long overdue, but so necessary. Let me start with this: I used Merima's services FIVE times in 14 months! Merima is such an artist. I met her at my best friend's wedding in 2013 in Santa Barbara, where she was the photographer. I was so in love with how their photos turned out, especially their engagement session, that I knew I needed Merima to be a part of my wedding. After the bestie's wedding, Merima shot my engagement session in Balboa Park & North Park, a family session (because I also wanted engagement photos with my son) in Ocean Beach, and our wedding in Coronado. And THEN, my mother-in-law was also so impressed with Merima's work, that she hired Merima for a family session in Balboa Park. Merima was INCREDIBLE. I needed some last-minute headshots, and she did all the legwork for me - picked the most perfect place, best time of day for light, and even let me bring my dog along. My finance/ husband was originally from SD so we decided to go to the city hall there to register and do the civil ceremony before the real wedding, and also take some 'engagement' photos afterward for the upcoming wedding. Long long overdue review. This is my second time working with Merima and I couldn't be happier with the results. We first met when my boyfriend hired her to take pictures of his proposal! What a way to meet! She took such great photos that I still can't believe we have. How many girls can say they had a photographer take pictures of their proposal?! She was so professional, creative and just fun to work with. Almost a year later we decided to do actual engagement photos. Again, just such a pleasure to work with. She makes you feel completely comfortable and almost forget she has a camera in your face for 2 hours. She's funny and sarcastic and just all around a great person. So many people have said she captured the spirit of the day perfectly, frozen in time to remember again and again. Customer Service - Merima worked with us remotely (we live in Colorado) and followed up consistently to finalize details and confirm. She listened to the style of photos we wanted (not a lot of posing, props, forced situations, cutesy business, etc.) and delivered. Merima shot our engagement photo shoot in 2015 and our camping wedding in March of 2016. She did a beautiful job with all our photos, we loved them! Our wedding was outdoors and had difficult lighting at times but she handled it wonderfully. She was so personable and even took a bobby pin out of her own hair to help mine! We could not have found a better photographer to capture the moments of the biggest day of our lives than Merima! She was a blessing to work with from start to finish. She has a very friendly, calm, and easygoing demeanor. She took the time to get to know me and my then-fiancé (now husband!) and get a sense of our personalities before our wedding day, so that she could adjust her photography style to suit our personalities. She also did her research, scouting out our ceremony and reception venues a week before the wedding and getting a feel for the lighting, the scenery, and even the traffic and parking situation, so that she was ready on the day itself. And she gave suggestions for our wedding day timeline so that the day would go more smoothly and the time for photos could be used more efficiently. She was also helpful in other aspects of the wedding prep, even giving me several recommendations for my makeup artist! On the day of the wedding itself, it was delightful and very reassuring to see Merima at her element! She was extremely professional, calm, and personable --- even in the face of a hectic and tight schedule, a large wedding party, an even larger bride's family, and even a little-miss-grumpy flower girl that was refusing to smile (lol). Despite the chaos of the day, she never lost her sense of fun or her attention to detail. She still took the time to get people to cooperate and smile simultaneously for group photos, and find the perfect angles, the perfect lighting, and the perfect backgrounds for her shots. She also made my husband and me feel extremely comfortable in front of the camera, which is no easy feat! She had such a great eye for detail even in the midst of chaos! In a word, Merima is ... amazing. Not only are the photos fantastic, she was a delight to work with. She was professional before the wedding (arranging a second camera and scouting locations for us) and during the wedding she was fun, joyous, and corralled my huge family with grace. After the wedding, she gave us a few photos to tide us over until she could edit the entire bunch. 2 months later, I got the photos, and they took my breath away. She had captured many magical moments not just of us, but of our guests, too. She caught two of our guests, married nearly 20 years, gazing lovingly at each other. What a beautiful moment! Cons? I booked a proposal/engagement photoshoot before our first trip to California. I decided to go with Merima and it was absolutely the best choice for a photographer I could have made! She was incredibly helpful with the planning (since it was a location I had never been to and I live on the opposite side of the country). She helped me pick a place (Scripps Pier) and even drew up a map for me of the location to use when I got there. Never having been there, this put me at ease right away. Merima just did our family photos, and she was fantastic to work with from my initial phone call to her through the photo editing process. The photos themselves were absolutely incredible, particularly given that our photo shoot at the beach included my toddler and two energetic dogs. We had a very last minute, intimate wedding and needed a photographer. My husband and I were really interested in finding someone who would capture the moment and do something a little "outside of the box", but still appropriate enough to share with family and friends.
