My other friend had the burger and was also happy with that. This pub has changed so many times over the 20 years I have lived down the road. It is right on Pennant Hills Road. It is much brighter and cleaner now than it has been in a very long time. The new renovations are truly amazing. I personally think it kind of looks and feels a bit RSL club like. If they would add some more soft furnishings and a lot more plants it might take this feeling away. But then maybe that is the feeling they were going for. There is a nice function room that has all the soft furnishings and differently set up than the club looking atmosphere. It was open when we were there but I don't know if that was for anyone or if it was being used for a function. There is an area for kids to play that is very popular. The day I was there I will tell you there were babies crying quit a bit :( There is a nice outdoor beer garden. They have a few large TV screens around the place too. It's nice that they have a place for kids and if loud kids bother you, kids are not so bad later at night. They have a sports bar with a pokie area a pool table a large TV and of course a TAB that is separate from the eating area. This pub is lucky as it is right across from train station so if they play their cards right it could be a very hoppin place.

We received our tickets after we ate. Although our reservation was originally around 2 pm, we were able to get seated earlier around noon when they opened. Overall, the event menu was good. The coconut sorbet with mango and lime I had was delicious except they weren't usually flavors I would associate with Japanese desserts. Checking online now, it looks like they have yuzu cheesecake as another dessert option instead of the black sesame/matcha one we had. I thought the black sesame/matcha dessert was fantastic. If the menu does change, that's also pretty neat. My favorites were the katsu sandwich, tartare, and the seared salmon (?) in the bento box. I personally wasn't as much a fan of the edamame or the okonomiyaki (?), but they fit with the Japanese food theme. Sitting by the windows, we had a really nice view. Would definitely come here again if they usually have set menus to match ongoing exhibitions.

We had a booking for 2pm and arrived a little early - had to wait 15 or so for the table to clear and clean but all ok. Drinks service was pretty slow as we waited at the large communal brass topped table but not exceptionally so. Vale Ale is a great drop and pleased to see it on the list, tbh. We got a nice table in the window and proceeded to give the menu a once over. Plenty of old favs here and a few new ones as well, including a Collective Menu for tables of 6 or more, which we decided looked like us. This is a selection of three small plates, two each of chilli quail, tuna tartare and mozzarella with tomatoes. For the main event a lamb shoulder, while snapper and a cous cous dish, plus a side of greens. We added a couple of fries to round it out. The desert was alternate drop of a chocolate mouse cake and a mixture of strawberries and watermelon with strawberry ice cream. The food was all very nice, almost but not quite exceptional, let down a little by the service. I think that was more because they had the busiest day since they opened 6 weeks ago rather than anything else, but we did struggle to get attention a couple of times.
