In the end, we found a much better place who had a prom specific for hair and make-up. This place should get more reliable workers who don't make up lies why they are cancelling appointments. First, a word about parking: I have a bad back and some difficulty walking any distance. I was concerned about where I'd park because Newtown boro isn't exactly known for its wealth of convenient, store-adjacent parking. But there is a small parking lot just below the salon that has about ten spots, including handicapped spots. From there it was just a quick walk up the sidewalk and into the alleyway to the salon ... perfect! Now for the experience itself. I have a mane of thick, curly hair that sorely needs cutting and styling. The night before, however, I'd decided on the spur of the moment that it would be a real treat just to get my hair professionally washed, blown dry, and flat ironed. I was searching through area salons on Google and noticed that Sharon Brown's accepts online appointment bookings! So at 10 pm on a Friday evening, I was able to book an appointment for 10:15 on Saturday morning. Score! That's definitely a service that more businesses should offer. The salon itself is bright, cheery, and unassuming. There is a main level, where I was, and there is also an upstairs loft. There's a big window in the front that lets a lot of natural light in even on a gray day, and there were slightly kitschy Easter egg decorations on the mirror at each station. You'd never feel as though you had to "dress" up a notch to spend your money here (unlike some other salons in our town). I was greeted with a big hello and smile by everyone whose path I crossed on my way to the reception desk; then I was introduced to my stylist, and taken right back for my shampoo. No waiting, I was taken right on time. My shampoo was fine; they used nice-smelling products that didn't seem to either strip my hair or weigh it down with too much conditioning gook. The shampoo chair-to-sink fit could've been a little better for a taller person like me, but it wasn't a big deal. My stylist asked me what I wanted done; I was a little surprised that I was being given an option, given that I'd specified my service when I'd made my online reservation. My stylist was nicely chatty vs unbearably talkative and over-sharing. She blew my hair dry without incident and flat ironed it. When she was finished, I was totally relaxed and my hair looked fabulous! It still needs a good cutting, but a professional styling by someone who knows what she's doing can work wonders! I gave my experience 4 stars rather than 5 because my impromptu blow-dry-and-flat-iron treat cost me $55, including the tip. I just thought that was a little pricey for that particular service; you may disagree. It was probably a little more than average due to the length and volume of my hair. If we could allocate partial stars, my rating would've actually been a 4.5. But I just wanted to provide a heads-up. Final verdict: Sharon Brown Highly Recommended IS highly recommended!

The receptionist helped me pick Monica as a stylist based on the services I wanted done. She took my number and I was immediately set up for text reminders. The shop is in a small warehouse looking building across from 7-11. There is a lot with plenty of free parking. The shop is small but cute. There is a main salon and some side rooms for extra services like waxing. During my service I was offered a beverage from their coffee/tea bar. I didn't accept or check it out but nice touch. I filled out a client card and Monica introduced herself and took me for a consultation. My appointment was for single color and cut but I as open to add ons. Because Monica is new to my hair she suggested we stick with my current color. She offers a complementary hair glaze which kicks in color and conditions with a glossy finish. Most salons charge $20 and up for this! I love that no one tried to over sell anything and was supper sweet about discussing my hair type, wants, concerns and the products i had at home and how to best use them, I have some specific areas of concern with my thin hair and Monica was mindful and full of great suggestions on styling, over use of products with protein, and only using a comb on wet hair and a brush on dry hair, never the other way. This salon was a step up from one of the value franchisees I usually go too. The shampoo bowls were comfortable for your neck and Summer did an amazing neck and head massage while she shampooed, conditioned, and applied the glaze. So relaxing and really enjoyable. I left the salon on a hot and humid day. My blow out is on day 4 and still looking greatB My hair is shiny, soft and looks amazing! Credit cards accepted but tips are cash. You can give personally or use the provided envelopes. I accidentally left my cell phone charging cube and charger. They immediately called so I could come back to get it. The employees there seem to have nice connections with customers and each other. They were helping with each other's clients when an issue arose and I think that the vibe check there was good.
