The tasting room doesn't look like much on the outside, but felt like a gallery inside--old wood floors and spare furniture, lots of natural light. The owner was pretty unceremonious, but we did show up about 10 minutes before closing. We enjoyed a bottle at our leisure later. I'd like to go back and try their other wines on my next visit. The impossible-to-say name, you ask? It is the alignment of three celestial bodies, i.e. The sun, moon, and earth. Maybe they're growin and smokin somethin else alongside the grapes.

As we pulled up to Syzygy, we were greeted by the proprietor's tush as he was bent over tending to…read moreplants out front. Nice butt = +1 star. The tasting room lacked frills - a loveseat centered beneath a picture window, displays of Syzygy-branded merch, the tasting counter discretely tucked away in a corner, orange walls, art strewn about and a telescope (which was just another indicator of the cutie owner's preoccupation with the cosmos). Hunky AND a smidge nerdy = +1 star. Was a bit startled (read: let down) to see that we'd only be tasting four reds, but wound up pleasantly surprised with Syzygy's intense colors, big flavors and dedication to quality - not quantity. My buds were drawn to their two blends: one was a moderately priced $24 and the other was the Saros (a cycle used to predict eclipses of the sun and moon) at $45. Focus on producing great wine = +2 stars. My only gripe was with the object of my affection (a.k.a. the hunky winemaker owner) - he didn't necessarily exude an open/welcoming disposition and wasn't very forthcoming with details about his great product. Tough guy act = -1 star. Left with: * 2005 Saros 134 - 44% Tempranillo, 44% Malbec + 12% Cab Sauvignon = 100% deliciousness * 2006 Red Wine - 56% Syrah, 20% Merlot, 13% Cab Sauvignon + 11% Malbec Notable notes: * Syzygy's interiors could benefit from a womanly touch or some queer eye. * No whites here (varietals, that is). Return rate: 7 (out of 10) * I have a soft spot for the strong, silent type.

I arrived slightly early in the day when the place was still empty -- expected for a weekday -- and was warmly greeted by him. He asked where we'd like to sit and promptly began the tasting. It was an absolute delight. In the short time I spent there, I learned more about wine than I have in my entire life. Eric was incredibly knowledgeable and thoughtful in how he explained everything -- it all just clicked. My husband did a white flight, and I did a red, and together we were able to sample a generous range from their collection. We left with a bottle of Poet's Leap, which we're excited to open soon. The vineyard itself is beautifully set, and while it's a bit of a drive, it's more than worth it. The interiors feature stunning glasswork and have a chic, modern feel -- including the facilities . Long Shadows is now firmly on my list of must-visits and will be at the top of my recommendations for anyone heading to Walla Walla.

Three elements contribute to the experience: the wine, the ambiance, and the people (staff). The quality of the staff has dropped considerably. WINE: 4.0. Long Shadows wines are consistently and solidly satisfying. AMBIANCE: 4.0. Nice facility set in wheatfields, with attractive south-facing views. Inside and outside seating. SERVICE: 2.0. The quality of the college student summer staff we encountered during our Jul 2025 visit was considerably lower than in past years, deeply undermining the entire experience. They appeared to dislike both their work and their customers. Superficiously nice when we arrived, but then becoming defensive and scowly. Moreover, as I was waiting outside for my partners, the outdoor staff were grumbling among themselves about the day's various customers, and about the need to clean up before leaving work.

Tastings of a flight of 3 for $25 and waived with a 2 bottle purchase. The wines were Grenache 2024, Syrah Les Collins Vineyard 2022 and Resound 2022. We were able to try some other wines and bought 4. Definitely a place to come back to.

We are wine drinkers of 30 years, beginning in Italy and Oregon, and have been coming to Walla Walla for 20 years. View: 5 Tasting room/property: 5 - We had seats by the windows and appreciated the electric car chargers. Service: 4 - We love coming to Walla Walla because we often get to talk with the wine maker. This was definitely not the case here. However, our host Thea was very knowledgeable and engaging! Wine Quality: 3 - We had a white flight and a red flight. The varietals and descriptions sounded like they matched our taste perfectly, but with the extra pours 7 of 9 missed the mark. My husband even questioned if they used an odd detergent to wash their glasses. A vintner in town told us their wines are improving, so we might try again, except for the next category... Overall Impression: 2.5 - The owners are two men who live out of state. MINUS. The estate is managed organically and sustainably. PLUS. Honestly this is probably enough reason for us to not return because there are so many amazing locally owned wineries in WW with better wine.
